In recent years, it's striking to see fewer teenagers getting their driver's licenses compared to earlier generations. What's even more concerning is that when they do hit the road, they are getting into more accidents than experienced drivers. This isn't just a statistic; it's a problem that affects real lives every day, and it's high time we do something about it.
I can't be the only one who's noticed that driving has become a nerve-wracking experience. As someone who values road safety, I've always envisioned a safer, more reliable driving environment. The good news is that the road ahead is filled with opportunities for positive change, where technology and human ingenuity can truly make a difference.
At the forefront of this revolution is the idea of autonomous vehicles. Imagine cars equipped with advanced sensors, machine learning algorithms, and constant connectivity. These vehicles have the potential to drastically reduce accidents caused by human error. They're like the superheroes of the road, reacting to situations in a split second, never getting tired, and never distracted. Picture a world where traffic fatalities become a distant memory, where vehicles communicate seamlessly, anticipate dangers, and react instantly to prevent accidents.
But it's not just about self-driving cars. Our interconnected world allows for real-time data sharing. Imagine a future where your car communicates with other vehicles and road infrastructure, providing up-to-the-minute information on traffic conditions and potential hazards. This technology empowers drivers to make informed decisions, avoiding accidents and traffic congestion, making our roads safer and more efficient.
To make this vision a reality, we need collaboration. It's about bringing together industry experts, government agencies, and technology innovators to work as a team. It's not just developing the technology; it's also about putting it into action effectively, creating the right legal framework, and ensuring that it benefits everyone.
Moreover, driver behavior plays a crucial role in road safety. Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) can help drivers develop safer habits by providing real-time warnings and interventions when potential hazards are detected. Think of it as a co-pilot guiding drivers towards safer practices.
In closing, the vision of a road safety revolution isn't just a dream; it's a necessity. By embracing innovative technologies and fostering a culture of safety, we can significantly reduce accidents and save lives. I'm incredibly passionate about contributing to this transformation, not just as a computer science student, but as someone deeply committed to the well-being of my community. Wieland Nurse Appreciation Scholarship
Access to healthcare is a fundamental human right, yet it remains elusive for many people around the world. The lack of doctors and other healthcare professionals has been a significant barrier to achieving healthcare for all. I decided on the field I was going to study at the age of 14 in my freshman year. Counselors walked into our classroom; it was time for us to choose an academy and a future career. I have always known what I wanted to study, but I became plagued with uncertainty. I would ignore those thoughts and convince myself that this was what I wanted. But it was only when I reflected on those thoughts that my path became clear.
I have always wanted to work in the medical field. My parents would see my accomplishments and tell me that I would become a doctor one day. Now, there are two things I could have done with this information: Take it to heart, or appreciate it and not think about it again. I took it to heart. But as I grew older, I began to learn about what It takes to work in the medical field. I would see videos of dying patients rushing in and doctors having to break the news to a family that a patient did not survive. I learned about the numerous hours doctors would spend working night shifts and overtime at the hospitals. Having all this information in the back of my mind caused me uncertainty about the very thing I thought for years I would become.
With age comes wisdom. The wisdom I acquired was understanding the many jobs and positions in the medical field. From nutritionists to surgeons, the list goes on. Because of this, I decided to persevere in my goals and find a position suitable for me. Growing up as the oldest child and dealing with children constantly, I became good at it. I love and care for children, hence pediatric nursing was the perfect fit. As a nurse, I can positively impact a child's life, have flexible working hours, and have a stable income. I can communicate well with people and be patient, which are attributes of mine that are necessary for this field. Another person who also has these traits is my doctor Adnan Al-Dais. Typically, kids hate going to the doctor, but kids love to go to Dr. Al-Dais’s office. He talks to them, makes them laugh, and gives them lollipops. He can communicate with parents and children who only speak Arabic and provide a sense of relatability. With the rise of Arab professionals, Arab immigrants can now enter places without having to worry about not being understood. It is influential and inspiring to see someone of your descent succeed just like he has inspired me. With the will of God, I will pursue a career in pediatric nursing and be a positive force in my community.

Access to healthcare is a fundamental human right, yet it remains elusive for many people around the world. The lack of doctors and other healthcare professionals has been a significant barrier to achieving healthcare for all. At the age of 14, I wanted to become a doctor, with a strong desire to help my community and contribute to the good health and prosperity of everyone. Winning a scholarship would not only enable me to achieve my personal goal of becoming a doctor but would also have a significant impact on my community and beyond. Pursuing a doctorate requires a significant financial investment, and without the support of this scholarship, my dream of becoming a doctor would be even more challenging to attain. The scholarship would not only provide me with the financial support I need to pursue my education, but it would also allow me to focus on my studies without the added stress of financial burdens.
My long-term goal is to establish a clinic where I can provide affordable and quality healthcare to my community. I know the challenges I will face on this journey, but I am determined to persevere. Financial struggles are one of the major obstacles I am likely to encounter, as my father is the sole breadwinner in our family, responsible for supporting his wife, four children, and both his parents. I do not want to burden him with the additional costs of my education, and therefore, I am seeking help from my community to make my dream a reality.
In addition to those benefits, winning this scholarship would be a significant accomplishment. I would make my parents proud and be saved from the energy I would spend working extra hours to pay for tuition. There's a big stigma around going to college because it's deemed a waste of money but I want to prove that untrue. With the right help from your community, your dreams can become possible and as the eldest of my siblings, I hope they can see that from me.
In conclusion, winning this scholarship would not only enable me to achieve my personal goal of becoming a doctor but would also have a significant impact on my community and beyond. Providing affordable and quality healthcare is essential, and I hope to improve the lives of people who have been left behind by the current healthcare system. With the help of this scholarship, I am confident that I can achieve my dreams and make a meaningful impact on the world
James A Cook Memorial Scholarship
I've always stepped up when a leader was necessary, whether at home, at school, or in the community. Leadership is about taking the initiative, being a role model, and inspiring others to achieve their goals. Recently, I had the opportunity to step up as a leader in several ways. I gave presentations at three main middle schools where students would eventually attend Fordon High School. I wanted to provide these students with information about high school and answer any questions they had about the transition. As a current high school student with an exceptional GPA and experience with AP exams, I felt well-equipped to lead these presentations and provide valuable insights.
During the presentation, I shared tips on how to succeed academically and socially in high school. I emphasized the importance of time management, study habits, and extracurricular activities. I also encouraged students to take advantage of the many resources available to them in high school. These resources include counseling services and academic tutoring. I also made sure they knew all the programs the school had to offer such as dual enrollment and collegiate academy. Beyond just sharing my own experiences and advice, I had aimed to be a positive role model for these young students. I wanted to show them that with hard work, determination, and a positive attitude, they too could succeed in high school and beyond. By being a leader in this way, I hoped to inspire these students to achieve their full potential. I also wanted them to have the best high school experience possible.
Aside from my work with middle school students, I have also taken on a leadership role as the oldest sibling in my family. As the eldest child, I am often responsible for helping my younger siblings navigate the world. Whether it's providing assistance with homework or providing guidance on social issues, I strive to be a positive role model and leader for my siblings. Another example of how I stepped up as a leader was during a canned food drive in my community. On the day of the drive, the weather was frigid and many people were hesitant to come out and help. However, I knew how important it was to support the community, especially during the holiday season. So, I bundled up and headed out to help pass out food to families in need. By taking initiative and volunteering my time, I was able to make a meaningful difference in my community. I led by example, showing others that even in challenging conditions, it's important to step up and help those in need. By working together, we collected a significant amount of canned goods that would be donated to families who needed them.

Technology has skyrocketed and many incredible things have been invented in the last few years. But the one invention that speaks to me and my goals for the future is 3D printing. This invention resonates with me on a personal level, aligns with my future aspirations and will change healthcare and save lives. So, I will support any efforts to advance 3D printing. This is because it is of the utmost importance that individuals, communities, and entire populations maintain and improve their health. 3D printing is a way to accomplish this when other means cannot.
3D printing can change healthcare in several ways. The ability to produce customized medical devices and implants is probably one of the most significant. This technology allows healthcare professionals to create implants and prosthetics that are specific to a patient and fit perfectly into the patient's anatomy. This has changed the way we approach medical interventions and pediatrics because, with 3D printing, prosthetics can be designed with precision, and ensure a perfect fit for the child's anatomy. Additionally, these prosthetics can also be customized to reflect the child's personality, making the child feel more confident and comfortable. This would result in a significant improvement for any child with amputations and other mobility issues life.
With 3D printing, pediatricians can also reduce surgery time and complications. 3D-printed models can identify and address potential issues before they arise, which reduces the risk of complications during surgery. Additionally, 3D printing technology allows medical professionals to simulate different surgical scenarios and choose the best option. This results in less time spent in the operating room, reducing the child's exposure to anesthesia and the risk of complications during the procedure. Moreover, anatomical models of patients can be created. This can help with diagnosis, treatment planning, and surgical preparation. As a pediatrician, this technology can give me a more in-depth understanding of a patient's anatomy, which can help me provide better care. For instance, if a child has a complex heart defect, I can print a 3D model of their heart. I can use it to plan the surgical procedure, reducing complications risk and improving the child's outcome.
In conclusion, 3D printing technology is a game-changing innovation in healthcare, and more specifically, in pediatrics. It has enabled medical professionals to make customized prosthetics and implants, reducing surgery time and complications. This can improve the quality of life for children with disabilities. As someone who is passionate about healthcare and technology, I am excited about the potential that 3D printing holds in this field, and I hope to contribute to it through my studies and pending career.
