Growing up, I’ve always wanted to be that person who makes someone’s day better. Whether it be by making them laugh or comforting them in a dark time, I have always had a passion for helping others. A career in nursing combines two of my biggest passions, helping others and working in the medical field. The idea of having a lasting impact on someone’s life and guiding them through tough times is something I strive to accomplish. I grew up as the oldest child in an immigrant household. This means that I was always seen as the leader of the family, the one people go to for help. This trait carried with me throughout my life which is why I've always been willing to lend a hand. This is why I choose nursing. I want to be able to make someone's experience in the hospital even the smallest bit better. I want them to feel at ease and cared for when they are in a scary situation. I believe that I can provide reassurance for my patients and show them that they aren’t alone. I can also provide them with the utmost care and respect while dealing with their stressful situation. Based on my own past experiences, I know how much impact a nurse can have on a patient’s care. A few years ago, I was in the hospital getting a procedure done and I was very nervous beforehand. I was shaking and scared because there was a slight complication before they started. A nurse held my hand and reassured me that everything would be okay. She made jokes to make me laugh and did anything she could to distract me from what was going on. Despite all the chaos surrounding us at that moment, the nurse went above and beyond in trying to comfort me and help me relax. After the procedure had finished and I was in the recovery room, it was then that I realized that I wanted to do the same for someone else one day. I wanted to be a sense of comfort, safety, and support. I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field and help patients the way my nurse helped me. Since this moment, I knew that I needed to do the same for others one day. The fact that I still remember it and am sharing this story today shows that this nurse did an extraordinary job of helping the sick and scared child. This is why I plan to pursue a career as a nurse one day.

As a nursing student, I implement the values of Islam in my work and care for my patients. Islam teaches us all about helping those in need and that's why I choose a career where that is the main focus. I feel so blessed that I found a career that not only is fulfilling, but it brings me closer to my faith and main purpose as a Muslim. Growing up, I always enjoyed helping others and giving back to my community. My local mosque taught us from a young age about the importance of helping the less fortunate, and that aligns with one of the main goals of nursing: advocating and fighting for patients, those who cannot fight for themselves. Another factor that I am excited to implement into my nursing career is caring for Muslim patients and honoring their wishes, beliefs, and traditions. Patients are already in a difficult situation when they are in the hospital. The last thing they need is to not feel like they are able to maintain their beliefs and modesty in these types of settings. That is why I plan to advocate for my patients and make sure they are able to remain in complete control of their care. Nursing also teaches me to be grateful and thank Allah for our blessings every day. It is easy to become upset and ungrateful in this world full of sadness and disappointment. But when you are faced with sickness in the most innocent patients, it puts life into perspective and reminds me of all my blessings. There are so many beautiful connections between nursing and Islam, and I have only become closer to my deen after choosing this career path. As nurses, we see the beginning and end of people's lives. That is a daily reminder of how short life is and why it is important to maintain my Muslim faith throughout it all. Winning this scholarship would help me achieve these goals because it will help me pay for school. I am currently working through nursing school and this award would be a great help in aiding me. It would also be an honor to be able to win a scholarship based on Islam and my passion for nursing. Overall, I will strive to be the best nurse I can be while maintaining the core aspects of Islam and my faith throughout my career and practice.

They help the patients better understand what’s going on and reassure them that they are in good hands. A nurse is compassionate, loving, and always there for you. I believe that I can provide reassurance for my patients and show them that they aren’t alone. Nurses stand by the patient through everything, the good and the bad, and they are there to be your superhero. Long after the doctor, visitors, and others have left for the day, your nurse stays by your side. The role of a nurse and the impact they make on patients is a beautiful thing to witness and I can't wait to be that person for my patients one day. This nurse that helped me when I was a child gave me the motivation to one day be able to do the same for others, and I plan to give back to my community by being the same compassionate nurse I once had as a child.

Nurses are the backbone of healthcare because they do so much more than just what people may think. They are the entire support system and bridge between the doctor and the patient. They help the patients better understand what’s going on and reassure them that they are in good hands. A nurse is compassionate, loving, and always there for you. I want to be able to make someone's experience in the hospital even the smallest bit better. I want them to feel at ease and cared for when they are in a scary situation. I believe that I can provide reassurance for my patients and show them that they aren’t alone. Since starting nursing school, my impression of nursing has only strengthened my passion for the field and all that it has to offer. Nursing school and clinicals have taught me the strength, commitment, and drive needed to be a successful nurse. I didn't know it was possible for my respect for nurses to increase but since starting the program, it has grown tremendously. The passion it takes to be a nurse is something that cannot be undermined, it truly takes a selfless person to be able to do all that a nurse does. Watching nurses juggle their responsibilities without complaint is truly remarkable and something I aspire to become. I have also learned the significant role nurses play in not only completing the physical tasks required of them but also their role in patient advocacy and therapeutic relationships.
