Lynn Welding Next Generation in Welding Scholarship
Everything produced in today's society has involved a welder at one point. Throughout my life I have always been interested in welding. Working out on a pipeline whether it's hot or cold outside sounds fun to me. The thrill of not knowing what each day will bring really intrigues me. I love when i can keep myself busy rather than sitting on a computer all day. The life of a pipeline welder sounds really interesting to me, being out on the road living, welding, and enjoying your time out there.
Recently I have gotten deeply involved with the FFA organization. I am my high schools current Shop student advisor. It's my job to inform all the students of all welding and Ag related subjects that we may be participating in. Last year I was just a member of my Ag mechanics team but this year, I am the leader of that team. In the judgings that I have gone to this year I have won second place and highest individual. My first judging of the year was in Nephi, Utah. Here we inspected welds and determined what was wrong with them. We identified parts of machinery that would be used in an agricultural environment. Lastly we took a written test about different areas in agriculture. There I came in second place just eight points behind first. My amazing team however did take first. I won the highest individual at our Snow judging in Ephraim, Utah. It was a judging that was run by Snow College and it had well over two-hundred contestants. My amazing team took first once again making it two in a row.
I am currently in the process of working on a college welding class through my high school.
I believe that welders play a key role in our society and without them lots of products would be impossible to make. Today's manufacturing is dependent on welders, but not any welders, skilled welders. Pipelines are everywhere, they are an essential part of transportation in this country. Water, oil, and natural gas are just a few examples of some things that are transported through these pipelines. The dairy industry uses pipes to transport it's product around their factories. Welders must weld these pipes while keeping them sanitary so people can safely consume the product. Welders are the backbone of America and they should be treated as such. Welding isn't just holding an electrode to the metal and hoping it welds. Welding is a science and an art that everyday people benefit from.
