Joan Free Thompson Scholarship
As a young girl I have always dreamt of becoming a nurse, yet thought it would be nearly impossible due to financial distress related to college funding. All my life I have worked towards my high school education with the possibility of obtaining this lifelong goal through college. This scholarship would help me obtain such goals by helping fund my college education, in hopes that one day I can follow in my mother’s footsteps and even surpass her by achieving my BSN degree. You see I come from a household where both of my parents are immigrants who came here seeking a better life with their parents, and it would be my dream to continue what they started.
Growing up, my parents did everything they could for me so that I could be in the position I am in today. I have two siblings that are one and two years younger than me, so funding from my parents is lower than what I would need to be financially stable throughout my future academic career. I have worked a full-time job babysitting for over a year and a half now, as well as doing side jobs for those I know just in hopes of saving up enough money to afford the expenses of going to a good college for a degree and career path that I want to pursue. This scholarship would help me in ways I cannot simply grasp and would make my childhood dreams come true.
