I attend Bay Port High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin and this will be my second year on the varsity baseball team. Our program has been built on winning for over the past two decades and every year we are the team to beat. Last year during the regular season we had fallen from a top 15 team in the state, to unranked and sitting in the middle of our conference standings. However, after a rough 10-0 loss in the first game of a doubleheader, our head coach let us hear what we needed to hear for the past few weeks, we weren't focused and were prioritizing things other than baseball. After that, we finished the regular season and playoffs with a 13-2 record, losing one game of a doubleheader and the other being in the Division 1 State Championship. We came into the playoffs as a seven-seed out of fourteen and ran the table in the playoffs, including wins against our conference champions, De Pere who swept us in the regular season, and a Sun Prairie team that beat us in the state championship the year before. Our team is resilient and we believe in each other when nobody else does. We gave each other everything we had which is why we did something almost impossible and become the lowest seed in school history to make it to state and the state championship. The reason I love baseball is that anything can happen, any team can win on any given day. I don't have to be the biggest, strongest, fastest, or tallest player on the field to contribute in a key way. I also made the majority of my friends from playing baseball and I couldn't imagine my life without the impact that baseball has left on me. My favorite player of all time is Nolan Arenado because of his ability to play defense at such a high level throughout his entire career. I really enjoy watching Arenado play even being a Milwaukee Brewers fan. He is competitive both offensively and defensively which seems to be very rare in today's age of baseball. I feel like I've been able to grow as a baseball player by watching Arenado throughout the past several years. Recently, I've been molding my game around him because he's the best at his position defensively and one of the best offensively at his position as well, and being a third baseman I feel this can help me grow into the best baseball player I can be. My favorite team is the Milwaukee Brewers. Growing up in Wisconsin I have always been a Brewers fan because my family is from Wisconsin and they've all grown up being Brewers fans and fans of all the professional sports teams in Wisconsin as well. The Brewers have been an up-and-down team recently, however, they've been an exciting team to watch over the past several years, especially in Yelich's MVP season with the Brewers being one game away from a World Series appearance. I also loved growing up watching players like Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks, and so many other great Brewers players. Lastly, my favorite position to play is third base, which happens to be the position I play. I've been a third baseman since I was about ten years old and have grown to love it ever since. I always have to be on my toes in anticipation of a ball coming my way at any second. I also love making diving plays on balls hit down the line and making off-balance throws on slow rollers.
