I am a high school senior from Acton Massachusetts. My parents got divorced soon after I was born. Given to my dad’s military career he was never around for my childhood events. He missed my birth along with all other major achievements not only In the classroom but in my extracurriculars and sports as well. I was raised by a single mother, who provided me with as many opportunities as she could.I’ve used these opportunities to put my best foot forward in every aspect of my life. Growing up without a father figure forced me to grow and learn on my own. People take for granted the lessons they learn from their parents, and missing one of mine was definitely a challenge for me. I was lucky enough to have a mother who believed in me and put a lot on the line to help me succeed. Even with her help, I had to develop very independently. This allowed me to stay on track and grow into the person I wanted to become. I struggled coping with the frustration of growing up without a dad, but I managed to channel my energy into something positive. I did this through getting involved in lots of sports and activities. Throughout my high school career I was a member of multiple clubs and organizations. Such as AB Speech and Debate club, Entrepreneurship club, AB buddies, and AB Ambassadors. I have also been apart of my high school’s varsity basketball, football, and track teams. I was awarded the honor of captain on both my varsity football and basketball team. I also volunteered at an Operation Surf event. Operation Surf is an organization that helps veterans struggling with PTSD. These activities have taught me to be selfless, but more importantly how to stay focused on goals I had set for myself. This is a lesson that has helped me throughout my high school career, and I have stayed committed to achieving and surpassing these goals, and will continue to do so. I believe my achievements speak levels to who I am as a person and who I have become, and I am extremely proud that I was able to turn my experiences into something positive. Given my mom is a single parent, taking care of 2 boys, financials are a major factor in my college decision. This scholarship will move me financially closer to the ability to pick a college which will continue to allow me to achieving my goals. Thank you for your consideration.
