Throughout my time on the lacrosse team, I have consistently demonstrated qualities of humility, leadership, and work ethic. These characteristics have allowed me to not only become a better player but also a respected teammate and leader. I am honored to say that I have been elected as the captain of the team, which is a testament to my leadership skills.
One of the most important aspects of leadership is holding teammates accountable. As the captain, I have a responsibility to ensure that everyone is doing their part to help the team succeed. I communicate expectations clearly and hold myself and my teammates to high standards. If someone falls short, I provide constructive feedback and work with them to help them improve.
I also understand the importance of motivation and keeping the team focused. As a leader, I am always looking for ways to inspire my teammates and create a positive team culture. I organize team-building activities such as pasta dinners, give pep talks before games and after practices, and encourage my teammates to support each other. I believe that a positive team culture is essential for success, and I am committed to fostering that culture.
Through my actions, I strive to demonstrate humility, recognizing that I am not the only player on the team and that everyone has something valuable to offer. I listen to my teammates' ideas and suggestions, and I am always open to feedback. I understand that I am not perfect and that there is always room for improvement. This mindset has allowed me to stay humble and keep a growth mindset, which has helped me to continually develop my skills on and off the field. I allow myself to be approachable to the younger kids on the team, helping them with whatever they may need, whether that be advice on simple skills or simply a ride home after practice.
I also pride myself on my strong work ethic. I understand that success is not just handed to you, but is earned through hard work and dedication. As a leader, I am always the first one to show up to practice and the last one to leave. I am willing to put in the extra effort to get better, whether it is staying after practice to work on my shooting or watching game film to analyze my performance. I also demonstrated a hard-working attitude on the varsity hockey team as I recently received the “Hardest Worker” award following the end of my senior season as captain. I carry this mentality with me to everything that I do, including school. Throughout my 4 years at Mansfield High School, I maintained a cumulative weighted GPA of 4.0 while performing at a very high level in honors and Advanced Placement level classes.
In conclusion, my leadership, humility, and work ethic have been crucial in my success on the lacrosse team. As the captain, I understand the responsibility that comes with the position, and I am committed to being a positive role model for my teammates. By leading with humility, holding my teammates accountable, and keeping the team motivated and focused, I am helping us to achieve our goals. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead this team, and I look forward to continuing to grow as a player and a leader.
Learner Math Lover Scholarship
I have always had a deep appreciation and love for mathematics. It is a subject that is often misunderstood and feared by many, but to me, it is fascinating and beautiful. I love how math forms the very foundation of the world around us and how it helps us to better understand the complexities of nature.

As the oldest sibling in my family, I’ve always felt a sense of responsibility to set a good example for my younger brothers and sisters. One area where I've been particularly focused is education. I’ve worked hard throughout high school to excel in my classes, and I believe that this has had a positive impact on my siblings' attitudes toward school and learning.
From an early age, I’ve always loved to learn. I was the kid who always had their nose buried in a book, asking questions, and seeking out new information. This love of learning translated into success in school. I’ve maintained a high GPA throughout high school and have taken challenging classes in subjects like math, science, and language.
While I'm proud of my academic achievements, what motivates me is the impact that they've had on my siblings. My younger brothers and sisters have seen firsthand how hard work and dedication can pay off in the classroom. They’ve watched me study for hours on end, complete difficult assignments, and prepare for exams. And they've seen the results – good grades, academic recognition, and growth opportunities.
I’ve always made a point of involving my siblings in my academic journey. I’ve helped them with their homework, explained difficult concepts to them, and encouraged them to ask questions and explore their interests. I've also tried to show them that learning can be fun and engaging, whether it's through hands-on projects, educational games, or interesting discussions.
As a result of my efforts, I believe that my siblings have developed a positive attitude toward education. They see it as something that can be rewarding and enjoyable, rather than just a chore that needs to be completed. They're curious and eager to learn, and they’re not afraid to ask for help or seek out new challenges.
Another way that my academic success has impacted my siblings is by opening up opportunities for them. They’ve seen how good grades, involvement in extracurricular activities, and other accomplishments can lead to scholarships, awards, and acceptance into prestigious colleges and universities.
While I'm thrilled to see my siblings succeed, I'm also aware of the challenges they face. The education system can be daunting and overwhelming, and many external factors can impact a student's ability to succeed. That's why I've made a point of supporting my siblings in every way that I can. I've encouraged them to reach out to teachers and guidance counselors for help, connected them with academic resources and study groups, and provided emotional support when they're feeling stressed or discouraged.
Looking back on my high school experience, I'm proud of the legacy that I've left for my siblings. By showing them that education is valuable and rewarding, I believe that I've inspired them to pursue their own academic goals and dreams. I hope that they'll continue to see the value of learning and strive for excellence in their own lives.
As I prepare to graduate and move on to college, I know that my siblings will be watching me closely. I want to continue to set a positive example for them, both in terms of academic success and personal growth. I want to show them that anything is possible with hard work, determination, and a willingness to take risks and try new things.
Ultimately, I believe that my academic achievements have had a ripple effect on my siblings and the wider community. By striving for excellence in school, I've shown others what's possible and inspired them to pursue their dreams and

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it caused massive disruption to our lives. Schools were closed, and social distancing measures were put in place, leaving many people feeling isolated and alone. As a high school student, I was particularly concerned about how this would impact my peers. I wanted to find a way to help them stay connected and supported during this difficult time.
That's when I came up with the idea of creating a Discord server for my high school class. Discord is an online platform that allows users to communicate through text, voice, and video chats. It's widely used by gamers, but it's also a great tool for socializing and collaborating on projects. I thought it would be the perfect way to keep our class connected while we were all stuck at home.
I created the server and invited all of my classmates to join. I also reached out to some of the more social students in our class to help promote it. We spread the word through social media, and soon enough, the server started to take off. Within a few days, we had over 50 members, and it continued to grow from there.
People started posting all sorts of things on the server. Some shared pictures of their pets or hobbies, while others shared their artwork or writing. It was amazing to see the talent and creativity that my classmates possessed. There were even a few students who started posting about their struggles with mental health during the pandemic, which opened up some important conversations about the challenges we were all facing.
One of the things that I loved about the server was the sense of community it created. People would comment on each other's posts and give feedback and encouragement. It felt like we were all in this together, even though we were physically apart. There were even a few students who started collaborating on creative projects together through the server.
As the server grew, I started to get more involved in moderating it. I wanted to make sure that it remained a safe and supportive space for everyone. I established some basic rules for behavior and made sure to enforce them consistently. I also encouraged other students to get involved in moderating and helping to promote the server.
Overall, the Discord server was a huge success. It helped to keep our class connected and supported during difficult times. We continued to use it throughout the school year, even after we returned to in-person learning. It was a testament to the power of technology to bring people together, even when we can't be together in person.
Looking back on my experience with the Discord server, I'm proud of what we were able to accomplish. It showed me that even small actions can make a big difference in people's lives. By creating a space for my classmates to connect and share, I was able to help them feel less isolated and more supported during difficult times. It also taught me the importance of being proactive and taking action to address social challenges, rather than waiting for someone else to do it.
As we move forward from the pandemic, I hope that we can continue to use technology to connect and support each other. While it's not a replacement for in-person interaction, it can be a valuable supplement to it. By leveraging technology, we can build more resilient and connected communities, even in the face of adversity.

It was a warm summer evening, and my close friend Jake and I were sitting on the front porch of his house, enjoying the breeze and talking about our plans for the future. Jake had always been a driven individual, with a strong sense of purpose and a clear vision for what he wanted to achieve in life. He was ambitious and motivated, always working hard towards his goals and dreams.
But something had changed in Jake lately. He seemed less enthusiastic about his passions and less motivated to pursue his goals. He was withdrawing from his friends and family, spending more time alone, and avoiding social events. I tried to reach out to him and offer my support, but he would brush me off, saying that he was just tired and needed some time alone.
As the days and weeks went by, I noticed that Jake's behavior was becoming more and more concerning. He was neglecting his personal hygiene, skipping meals, and losing weight rapidly. He seemed to have lost all interest in the things he once loved and was becoming more withdrawn and isolated each day.
One evening, Jake called me and asked if he could come over to talk. When he arrived, I could see that he was in a state of deep distress. His eyes were sunken, and his voice was shaky as he began to tell me about the overwhelming feelings of sadness and hopelessness that had been consuming him.
As he spoke, I realized that my friend was suffering from depression, a mental illness that had been slowly taking hold of him for months. He had lost all sense of purpose and direction in life, and his once-vibrant personality had been replaced by a shell of his former self.
Over the next few weeks, I watched as Jake's depression worsened. He became more isolated and withdrawn, and his once-bright future seemed to be slipping away from him. He stopped talking about his dreams and goals, and instead, he would spend hours staring at the walls, lost in his thoughts.
Despite my efforts to help him, I felt helpless and frustrated as I watched my friend slip away from me. It was a painful experience, but it taught me an important lesson about mental illness and its impact on those who suffer from it.
I also learned that mental illness is not something that can be overcome by sheer willpower or determination. It is a complex condition that requires professional treatment and support from loved ones.
Through my experience with Jake, I gained a greater understanding of the importance of mental health awareness and the need to support those who suffer from mental illness. I became more proactive in contacting friends and family members who may be struggling and offering my support and encouragement.
In the end, Jake overcame his depression with the help of therapy and medication. He slowly began to regain his sense of purpose and direction in life, and his passion for his goals and dreams was reignited.
The experience of watching my friend lose his interests, goals, and friends to depression was a painful one, but it taught me an important lesson about the prevalence and impact of mental illness. It is a reminder that we should always be mindful of our own mental health and the mental health of those around us, and strive to create a world where mental health is a priority and those who suffer from mental illness are given the support and care they need to overcome it.
