Bio

My name is Clifford Samuels, i was originally born in Kingston, Jamaica and I'm just your average student that loves reading and writing. I've always been interested in presenting information to the public in an a clear and concise manner, whether that be about Christianity or about the homelessness in the area. With all the fake news and lies being propagated to the public, I want to go into print journalism to report the truth and nothing but the truth without my own bias. Knowing the truth is better than knowing a lie, because it stands on its own and is firm, and my writing should reflect that.

If a person were to ask me the question “do you know who your are” the answer would be fairly similar to the answer I would give if i were a toddler. Instead of “just a boy”, my response now would be “just a simple guy”, which is my self concept. I never experienced the struggle of trying to figure who I am or what I would become, rather, I would just go with the flow of life. Being raised by two strong-willed Jamaicans, I was taught discipline, respect and decency, making my demeanor stand out from the rest of the kids I grew up with. “Say somethin nuh Clifford? Yuh so dry….” is the common response I would get from most kids and adults alike. It didn’t bother me though, because I knew who I was. Why did I have to speak if nothing was on my mind at the moment? I’m just a boy. Not a talkative boy. Even when I was a baby, I hardly cried or made noise, and my family worried if I was sick. I was just a boy. I wondered why nobody could understand that. As I grew up, I found the perfect word that could describe my personality; “simple”. I decided to add and combine other words that would further complement “simple”, such as “focused”, “quiet”, and “reserved”. According to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or MBTI, there are 16 types of personalities that are categorized in a 4-letter abbreviation. After careful consideration I’ve found out that my personality type is an INTP or “Introverted Intuitive Thinking Perceiving” person. The combination of “intuition” and “thinking” manifests itself in my writing. Dating back to my elementary school years, I've always had an affinity for reading and writing. Writing,in itself, is an escape for me. As soon as my fingers push the pencil, pen, or keyboard, I'm whisked away into a dimension of free thought and a variety of ideas. The combination of words to form a complete sentence and a thought was intriguing. It pushed me to pay close attention to the variety of ways of accomplishing said task, such as playing with metaphors, imagery and other styles. From the help of my parents, my teachers and the books that I read, sentence formation became effortless to me throughout my years as a student. My goal was to read as many books as I can, analyze the writing style of the authors, and create my own style that incorporates a few styles from its respective authors. As I continued my studies in college, I realized that the major best suited for me was communications which, according to the Department of Communication at George Mason University, is the creation and dissemination of meaning and information. By refining my skills in major, I hope to achieve a career as a journalist or an editor, where the information collected is thoroughly processed and reviewed before its release to the public.
