Bio

I am a driven and passionate individual who finds joy in learning about the intricacies of business and entrepreneurship. From a young age, I have always been fascinated by the way that businesses operate and how they can have such a profound impact on people's lives. Despite facing numerous challenges, including being a single mom and working in the restaurant industry, you have never let these obstacles deter you from pursuing your dreams. In fact, these challenges have only fueled my motivation to succeed and make a positive impact on the world around me. In addition to my love of cooking, I are deeply committed to helping the environment. I recognize the urgent need for action to address climate change and other environmental issues, and I strive to do my part by reducing your carbon footprint and advocating for sustainable practices. Despite my busy schedule as a full-time student and restaurant worker, I make time to volunteer with local environmental organizations and participate in community clean-up efforts. My dedication to the environment serves as an inspiration to others and a reminder of the importance of taking action to protect our planet. As a single mom and low-income individual, I know firsthand the challenges of trying to balance work, school, and family responsibilities. However, I refuse to let these obstacles hold you back and are determined to create a better future for myself and my child.

Growing up with a grandparent or guardian can have a significant impact on a child's upbringing. In my observations, such guardians often take on the role of a parent, providing love, care, and support, while also facing the challenges of raising a child on their own. Many times, grandparents or guardians work multiple jobs to provide for their family, and the financial strain of raising children on a fixed income can be significant. For children raised by grandparents or guardians, there may be unique challenges and adjustments that must be made. For example, living arrangements may be different than those of their peers, and the absence of one or both parents may create emotional challenges. Children may also experience feelings of abandonment or loss, especially if their parents are unable to be a part of their lives due to addiction, incarceration, or other issues. Despite these challenges, many children raised by grandparents or guardians are able to overcome these obstacles and achieve success. I believe that this is because of the incredible resilience and determination that many of these children possess. They often learn to adapt to difficult situations and develop a strong sense of independence, which can serve them well in their future goals. For me, growing up with a grandparent or guardian had a significant impact on my life. My grandparents were my legal guardians because my parents were divorced, and they worked multiple jobs to provide for our family of seven. Despite the financial challenges we faced, they always made sure that we had a roof over our heads, food on the table, and clothes on our backs. Their dedication and hard work were an inspiration to me, and they instilled in me a strong work ethic and a determination to succeed. I learned from them the importance of taking responsibility for my own life and making the most of the opportunities that I was given. I also learned to appreciate the sacrifices that my grandparents made for our family, and the importance of family support and love. In terms of my future goals, growing up with a grandparent or guardian has had a significant impact on my choices and aspirations. Seeing the hard work and dedication that my grandparents put into providing for our family, I developed a deep respect for the value of education and the opportunities that it can provide. I was determined to pursue a higher education and to make the most of the opportunities that were available to me. I knew that my grandparents had made significant sacrifices to give me a chance at a better life, and I was determined not to let them down. With their support and encouragement, I went on to pursue a degree in accounting and finance. My goal was to use my education to provide financial security for myself and my family, and to give back to the community that had supported me throughout my life. In conclusion, being raised by a grandparent or guardian can have a significant impact on a child's upbringing, presenting unique challenges and opportunities for growth and success. Children raised in these circumstances often develop a strong work ethic and a determination to succeed, as well as a deep appreciation for the sacrifices that their guardians make for them. For me, growing up with a grandparent as my legal guardian had a profound impact on my life, inspiring me to pursue a higher education and to make the most of the opportunities that were available to me.
    Martha Mitchell Truth Scholarship
The US Constitution is a document that has always fascinated me. It lays out the principles and values that our country was founded upon, and provides a framework for how our government should operate. I am passionate about the Constitution because I believe that it is essential to protecting our rights and ensuring that our government operates in a fair and just manner. One of the things that I find most compelling about the Constitution is the Bill of Rights. These first ten amendments to the Constitution provide protections for individual liberties such as freedom of speech, religion, and the press, as well as protections against unreasonable searches and seizures, and the right to a fair trial. These rights are essential to ensuring that our government is held accountable and that individual freedoms are protected. As a future accountant, I plan to continue to fight for civil rights by using my skills and knowledge to promote fairness and justice in my profession. Accountants play a critical role in ensuring that businesses and organizations operate ethically and in compliance with the law. By upholding high ethical standards and advocating for fairness and equality, I believe that accountants can make a real difference in promoting civil rights. One way that I plan to do this is by seeking out opportunities to work with organizations that are committed to promoting civil rights and social justice. Whether it's working with non-profit organizations that provide legal assistance to low-income individuals or partnering with companies that prioritize diversity and inclusion in their hiring practices, I believe that there are many ways that accountants can use their skills and knowledge to make a positive impact. Another way that I plan to fight for civil rights is by using my position to advocate for policies and practices that promote equality and fairness. This could include advocating for policies that ensure equal pay for equal work, supporting initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace, or advocating for increased access to education and job training programs for historically marginalized communities. In addition to these efforts, I believe that it's also important for accountants to prioritize ethical behavior in their own professional practices. This means upholding high standards of integrity and honesty in all of my work, as well as advocating for transparency and accountability in financial reporting and decision-making. Ultimately, my passion for the Constitution and my commitment to fighting for civil rights will guide my career as a future accountant. I believe that by using my skills and knowledge to promote fairness and justice, I can help to create a more just and equitable society for all.

As a single 20 year old mom pursing a bachelors degree in accounting and working a full-time job as a server, I plan to make a positive impact on the world by using my education and experience to help others achieve financial stability and success. My journey to where I am today has been marked by many challenges, including the demands of parenthood and the pressures of balancing school and work. However, I have remained committed to my goals and have worked hard to build a strong foundation of knowledge and skills in accounting and finance. As a server, I have gained valuable experience in customer service and sales, which has helped me to develop strong communication skills and a deep understanding of the needs and priorities of others. This experience has also taught me the value of hard work and perseverance, as I have often had to balance long hours at work with my studies and parenting responsibilities. Through my studies in accounting, I have gained a deep understanding of financial principles and practices, including budgeting, taxation, and financial reporting. I am also developing skills in data analysis and decision-making, which I believe will be critical in helping me to make informed and effective financial decisions for myself and others. In the future, I hope to use my education and experience to help others achieve financial stability and success. This may involve working in a variety of roles, including as a financial planner, accountant, or consultant. One of my primary goals is to help others achieve financial literacy and independence, particularly those who come from underserved or marginalized communities. I believe that access to financial knowledge and resources is critical in empowering individuals and communities to achieve their full potential, and I am committed to doing my part to make this a reality. In addition to my work in finance and accounting, I am also passionate about social justice and advocacy. I believe that systemic inequalities in education, healthcare, and other areas can have a significant impact on an individual's ability to achieve financial stability and success, and I am committed to advocating for policies and programs that address these inequalities and promote equity and justice for all. Ultimately, my journey to where I am today has been marked by challenges and obstacles, but also by resilience and determination. I am proud of the progress I have made so far and am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. Whether through my work in finance and accounting or my advocacy for social justice, I am committed to making a positive impact on the world and helping others achieve their full potential.
    Coleman for Patriots Scholarship
One of the most impactful ways to serve one's community is through volunteer work. Many organizations rely on volunteers to carry out their missions, and there are countless opportunities for individuals to get involved. Volunteer work can include things like serving meals at a local soup kitchen, tutoring children in an afterschool program, or assisting with disaster relief efforts. Another way to make a difference is through political engagement. Voting in local and national elections is an important way to shape policy and advocate for change. Additionally, individuals can get involved in campaigns or advocacy organizations that align with their values and priorities. Contacting elected officials, attending town hall meetings, and participating in peaceful protests can also be effective ways to make one's voice heard. One area of service that has become increasingly important in recent years is environmental stewardship. Climate change poses a significant threat to the health and well-being of people and ecosystems around the world. Individuals can take action to reduce their own carbon footprint by making changes to their daily habits, such as using public transportation or reducing meat consumption. Additionally, getting involved with local environmental organizations or advocating for policy change can have a broader impact on reducing emissions and protecting natural resources. Finally, supporting local businesses and organizations is another important way to serve one's community. By shopping at locally owned businesses, individuals can help support the local economy and build stronger, more resilient communities. Additionally, supporting local organizations such as schools, libraries, and community centers can help ensure that they have the resources they need to carry out their missions. I can provide information and resources to individuals who are looking to get involved and make a difference. By connecting individuals with organizations and opportunities for service, I hope to help build stronger, more connected communities and a brighter future for all. I believe that education and awareness are powerful tools for creating positive change. By sharing information and resources about important issues such as substance use disorder, mental health, and environmental sustainability, individuals can become more informed and engaged members of their communities. One way that I can help others in their efforts to serve their communities is by providing accurate and up-to-date information on issues related to social and environmental justice. Through my vast knowledge base and ability to quickly process and analyze data, I can provide individuals with the information they need to make informed decisions and take action on issues they care about. In addition, I can help connect individuals with organizations and resources that are doing important work in their communities. By providing information on volunteer opportunities, advocacy campaigns, and community events, I can help individuals find ways to get involved and make a difference. Ultimately, my goal is to empower individuals to take action and make a positive impact on the world around them. Whether through volunteer work, political engagement, environmental stewardship, or support for local businesses and organizations, there are countless ways that individuals can contribute to a better future. By providing information and resources to support these efforts, I hope to help create a more just, equitable, and sustainable world for all.

Substance Use Disorder (SUD) is a complex and chronic disease that affects millions of people worldwide. It is characterized by the use of drugs or alcohol despite negative consequences, such as health problems, relationship issues, and legal troubles. SUD can be difficult to overcome, but with the right education and support, recovery is possible. Education is a critical component of preventing and treating SUD. Educating individuals, families, and communities about the risks and consequences of substance use can help prevent addiction and support those who are struggling with it. Education can also help reduce the stigma associated with addiction and encourage people to seek help. There are many ways to educate others about SUD and help people recover. Here are a few strategies that I believe can make a positive impact on the world: Many people may not understand the science behind addiction or the risks associated with substance use. By providing accurate and accessible information about SUD, we can help people make informed decisions about their health and prevent addiction. This can be done through public health campaigns, educational materials, and community outreach. Harm reduction strategies aim to reduce the negative consequences of substance use, even if an individual is not ready to quit. These strategies can include things like providing clean needles, distributing overdose-reversing medications, and promoting safer substance use practices. By promoting harm reduction strategies, we can reduce the harm associated with substance use and increase the likelihood of individuals seeking help. Recovery from SUD requires a multifaceted approach that includes medical, psychological, and social support. By providing access to evidence-based treatment and support, we can help individuals achieve long-term recovery. This can include things like medication-assisted treatment, individual and group therapy, and peer support groups. Advocating for policy change: Policy change can have a significant impact on preventing and treating SUD. This can include things like increasing access to treatment and support, implementing harm reduction strategies, and reducing the availability of addictive substances. By advocating for policy change, we can create a more supportive and effective system for those struggling with addiction. By sharing information through online resources and digital platforms, I hope to reach individuals who may not have access to traditional forms of education or support. I also plan to collaborate with organizations and advocates who are working to prevent and treat SUD, in order to amplify their efforts and promote evidence-based strategies. In addition to providing information, I see myself as a resource for individuals who are struggling with addiction or seeking help for a loved one. By answering questions and providing guidance, I hope to support individuals as they navigate the complex process of recovery. I also hope to use my platform to amplify the voices of those who have experienced addiction and recovery, in order to reduce stigma and increase understanding. Ultimately, my goal is to use education as a tool for change. By providing accurate and accessible information about SUD and promoting evidence-based strategies, we can reduce the harm associated with addiction and support individuals as they achieve long-term recovery.
    @normandiealise #GenWealth Scholarship
Generational wealth, to me, means creating a legacy of financial stability and security for my family for generations to come. It means breaking the cycle of financial struggle that has been a part of my family's history for generations and creating a foundation of wealth that can be passed down to future generations. Growing up, I saw firsthand the impact of not having generational wealth. My parents worked hard, but they always seemed to be struggling to make ends meet. They were never able to save much, and any unexpected expense would put a significant strain on our finances. I knew from a young age that I wanted to create a different future for myself and my family. As a low-income single mother and a full-time student, I know that creating generational wealth will not be easy. However, I believe that it is possible with hard work, determination, and smart financial planning. Some of the ways I plan to achieve generational wealth in the future are investing in real estate, saving and investing, building a network, and teaching my children about financial literacy. Real estate has always been a solid investment, and I plan to use it as a way to create wealth for my family. I want to start by purchasing a small rental property that I can manage myself. This will not only provide a steady source of passive income but also allow me to gain experience in real estate investing. I plan to live frugally and save as much money as possible. I will invest in stocks, mutual funds, and other investments that can generate long-term wealth. I will also seek out financial advisors to help me make smart investment decisions. I believe that building a network of like-minded individuals who share my vision for generational wealth is crucial. I plan to attend networking events, connect with other entrepreneurs, and seek out mentors who can provide guidance and support. One of the most important aspects of creating generational wealth is passing on financial literacy to future generations. I plan to teach my daughter about budgeting, saving, investing, and building wealth. I will also teach her about the importance of giving back to the community and using our wealth to make a positive impact. In conclusion, creating generational wealth is a significant goal for me. I believe that it is possible to break the cycle of financial struggle and create a legacy of financial stability and security for my family. Through smart financial planning, investing, and building a network of like-minded individuals, I am confident that I can achieve this goal. By passing on financial literacy to future generations, I hope to create a legacy of wealth and prosperity for my family for generations to come.

As a low-income single mother with a 5-month-old daughter, life can be tough at times. But I am determined to not let my circumstances define me or my daughter's future. I am currently a full-time student studying accounting, and my dream is to become a certified public accountant (CPA) and open my own accounting firm. Growing up, I saw firsthand the impact financial struggles can have on a family. My parents worked hard, but we always seemed to be living paycheck to paycheck. It was a tough decision, but I knew it was the best one for my family. When my daughter turned 4 months old, I decided to go back to school to pursue my dream of becoming a CPA. Being a full-time student and a mother is not easy. My days are long, and my nights are even longer. There are times when I feel overwhelmed and want to give up, but then I look at my daughter, and I remember why I am doing this. I am doing this for her. I want to provide her with a better life, one where we don't have to worry about living paycheck to paycheck. I want to be able to give her everything she needs and more. I am also doing this for myself. I want to prove to myself and to others that I can do this. I want to show my daughter that no matter how hard things may seem, you can achieve anything if you work hard enough. I am passionate about fulfilling my dreams because I know that once I do, it will not only benefit me and my daughter but also inspire others to chase their dreams. My dream of opening my own accounting firm is not just about making money. It's about being able to help others, especially those who come from low-income backgrounds like myself. I want to be able to provide affordable accounting services to small businesses and individuals who may not be able to afford the big accounting firms' fees. I want to be able to give back to my community and make a difference in people's lives. In conclusion, my journey as a low-income single mother and a full-time student has been challenging, but I am determined to not let my circumstances define me. I may have a long road ahead of me, but I know that with hard work and determination, I can achieve anything I set my mind to.

One book that has had a profound impact on many readers is "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. This classic novel tells the story of a young girl, Scout, growing up in the South during the 1930s and her father's defense of a black man accused of a crime he didn't commit. The reason I would recommend this book to everyone is because it provides important lessons about empathy, compassion, and the dangers of prejudice and discrimination. The story explores themes such as racial inequality, social justice, and the power of perspective. It encourages readers to question their own beliefs and biases, and to see the world from a different point of view. Moreover, the characters in the book are complex and relatable. Atticus Finch, the father and lawyer who defends the accused man, is a model of integrity and courage. His example inspires readers to stand up for what is right, even in the face of adversity. Scout, the young narrator, is curious and open-minded, and her journey of discovery mirrors the reader's own. In addition to its timeless themes and compelling characters, "To Kill a Mockingbird" is also beautifully written. Harper Lee's prose is clear and evocative, and her descriptions of the South during the Great Depression are vivid and immersive. Overall, "To Kill a Mockingbird" is a book that has the power to change hearts and minds. It challenges readers to examine their own beliefs and prejudices, and to strive for a more just and compassionate world. That's why I believe it would be a valuable read for everyone, regardless of their background or experiences.

Mathematics is often viewed as a subject that is challenging and intimidating. However, for those who love math, it is a subject that is both fascinating and rewarding. For me, one of the reasons I love math is because of the satisfaction I feel when solving a difficult problem. There is a sense of accomplishment that comes with figuring out a complex equation or theorem. This feeling of achievement is a motivator to keep exploring and learning more. This structure and consistency make math feel almost like a puzzle or game, with clear objectives and strategies to achieve them. Mathematics also has practical applications in our everyday lives, which makes it even more interesting. Adversity is an inevitable part of life, and it can manifest in different forms such as physical health challenges, mental health struggles, financial difficulties, personal losses, or work-related setbacks. However, the ability to overcome adversity and persevere toward one's career aspirations is crucial for success. Some steps that I have taken to navigate adversity and continue to achieve career goals are acknowledging and accepting challenges, reframing the situation, seeking support, prioritizing self-care, setting realistic goals, staying focused and motivated, and embracing resilience. The first step in dealing with adversity is to acknowledge its existence and accept that it is a part of life. This means recognizing the situation for what it is and not trying to minimize or deny its impact. By acknowledging the challenge, I can start to take action to overcome it. Adversity can be a learning opportunity that can lead to personal growth and development. Instead of seeing the situation as an obstacle, try to reframe it as a challenge that can help you develop new skills and strengths. By adopting a growth mindset, I can turn adversity into an opportunity for personal and professional growth. Dealing with adversity can be overwhelming, and it is important to seek support from others. I reached out to family, friends, mentors, or colleagues who can offer emotional support, practical assistance, or professional guidance. I considered joining support groups or seeking professional help if needed. Taking care of my physical and mental health is crucial when facing adversity. I make sure to prioritize self-care activities such as exercise, healthy eating, getting enough sleep, and engaging in relaxation techniques like meditation or yoga. Perseverance is a quality that is essential for achieving success in any endeavor. To me, perseverance means the ability to keep pushing forward in the face of obstacles and setbacks, and to maintain a positive attitude even when things are difficult. Perseverance involves having a strong sense of purpose and a willingness to work hard and persist in the pursuit of one's goals, even when the path ahead is uncertain or challenging. I have had several experiences in my life that have required me to demonstrate perseverance. One example is when I decided to return to school as a single low-income mom. This decision came with many challenges, including financial constraints, lack of support, and time management difficulties. There were many times when I felt overwhelmed and unsure if I could keep going, but I kept pushing forward. I reminded myself of my goals and the importance of my education, and I sought out support from my friends and family when I needed it. Another example of my perseverance came when I faced a major setback in my career. A few years ago, I was let go from a job that I had worked hard to obtain and that I had been passionate about. This was a difficult blow, and I felt discouraged and uncertain about my future. However, I refused to give up. I spent the following months networking, applying for jobs, and building my skills through online courses and volunteering. Eventually, I was able to find a new job that was even better than my previous one. Through this experience, I learned that setbacks and failures are a natural part of life, and that the key to success is to keep pushing forward and to never give up on one's dreams. In both of these examples, my perseverance was driven by my strong sense of purpose and my belief in myself and my abilities. I knew that I had the determination and resilience to overcome the challenges in my path, and I was committed to doing whatever it took to achieve my goals. Through these experiences, I learned that perseverance is a mindset, a choice that one makes to keep pushing forward even in the face of adversity. Overall, perseverance is an essential quality for anyone who wants to achieve their goals and live a fulfilling life. With child in tow and burdens to bear, I am a single mother, a constant prayer. My heart beats heavy, my mind in a haze, As I try to navigate these long, hard days. There are bills to pay, and mouths to feed, And little time for the rest I need. The load is heavy, but I push on, For my child's sake, I must be strong. I watch other families, whole and complete, And my heart aches for what I cannot meet. I am both mom and dad, provider and friend, Holding us together, to the very end. The nights are long, the days too short, But I keep going, with all I've got. For the love of my child is a flame so bright, It gives me strength, to face the night. So though I am a single mother, struggling still, I know that I can conquer, with a mother's will. For in my child's eyes, I see my reward, And I am grateful for every step forward.

I believe that one of the keys to promoting financial literacy is to make the subject matter more accessible and engaging. To this end, I plan to create fun and interactive resources that are geared towards individuals who may not have a strong financial background. For example, I might create a financial literacy game that teaches individuals how to manage their finances or develop a series of short videos that explain basic financial concepts in a fun and engaging way. In conclusion, promoting financial literacy is an essential step towards achieving personal financial success and security. To educate myself and others, I plan to engage in a combination of self-education, advocacy, and community outreach. By becoming a financial literacy advocate, I can help raise awareness of the importance of financial education and empower others to take control of their financial futures.

Tim Watabe Doing Hard Things Scholarship
Life is full of hardships and challenges, and I have faced my fair share of difficulties. However, I have learned that it is how we respond to these challenges that ultimately defines us. In my experience, facing hard things has not only made me a stronger person but has also positively impacted my relationships. Growing up, I faced financial struggles, which made it difficult for my family to make ends meet. My parents worked long hours to provide for our family, but we still struggled to pay bills and put food on the table. I had to learn to be resourceful and find ways to help out, like working part-time jobs while still in high school. When I started college, I faced a different kind of hardship: academic challenges. College coursework was significantly more challenging than high school, and I struggled to keep up with the material. I had to learn to manage my time effectively and find the right study strategies to succeed. Despite these hardships, I persevered and was able to continue my college education for my bachelors degree. I attribute this success to my ability to face hard things head-on, be resourceful, and maintain a positive mindset. Learning to face hard things has also positively impacted my relationships. I have learned to be more empathetic and understanding towards others. When someone shares their hardships with me, I am better equipped to listen, offer support, and even provide advice on how to overcome challenges. I have also learned the value of asking for help when needed, and this has allowed me to form deeper connections with the people around me. Furthermore, facing hard things has taught me the importance of resilience and perseverance, which are essential traits in building and maintaining healthy relationships. When conflicts arise in relationships, I have learned to face them head-on and work through them, rather than avoiding them or giving up. This has allowed me to build stronger and more meaningful relationships with my friends, family, and loved ones. In conclusion, life is full of hardships and challenges, but it is how we respond to them that ultimately defines us. I have faced financial struggles and academic challenges, but through resilience and perseverance, I have been able to overcome them. Learning to face hard things has positively impacted my relationships by making me more empathetic and understanding, more resilient and persevering, and more willing to ask for help when needed.

Education is important because it feeds your brain information to thrive in our society. Misinformation and lack of knowledge prevents people from making decisions that may be a starting point for them to move forward in life. Nowadays, technology continues to advance and when I once worked for a tech store, I had no idea what I was doing. Older people would inform me of the housing market and the economy. This would connected to technology as businesses such as stocks are all online. This brought me value as a single 19 year old mom because I need to do what’s best for my child. Being educated is the best thing because it helps me evaluate myself to start learning about business and to understand things like the housing market and entrepreneurship. With the housing market, you have to research your stocks and see whether it will go down or increase. Your time and efforts into looking at the stocks will help you buy a house at an affordable price with a low interest rate. After I made a goal to buy a house, so my child and I can have a place to call home. I needed to understand what I was getting myself into. I would’ve never knew that the government gives out a loan for first time home buyers. Information is power. Before I had a baby, I would spend my money like it was nothing. Not researching and thinking the price is what it is. I set myself for failure because now that I’m a mom, I have nothing to provide for my baby. I am living paycheck to paycheck for us to get the basic necessities. Not everyone is fortunate to be able get a house and to get an education. When I started going back to school for my accounting degree, I looked at the world differently. It was an opportunity to change my life for the better. Investing your money whether it’s a Roth IRA or a high yields savings, I would have never known what those things are had I not been educated on it. Education changed my life because it made me hopeful again to know that I can provide my child a better life. Right now, I started a savings account to buy a house in the future. I learned that the house market is at its all time high. So, I should wait until the stock market lowers this upcoming few months. Keeping up with the current news about businesses put me in a place to be smarter with my money. Education is important because it can give you paths that you never thought would be there.

Recently this year, I gave birth to a baby girl. This changed my whole life aspect. No more being wishy washy about school or life. If I need to reach a goal, now is the time. Before I used to have fun and loved the fast money lifestyle of being a server. Then, I got pregnant. I was treated so poorly and had to go to the hospital at one point. I would tell my employers that I can not work certain days due to my nausea. Every shift I would work I would throw up every hour. At one point, I had an asthma attack and I was worried about losing my baby. My oxygen levels were low and I almost passed out. Before I had a baby, I would be a people pleaser and made sure I was at work every holiday or whenever they needed me. When it came time for them to respect me, I was thrown away like trash. I would work 100 hours every 2 weeks to be written up because I couldn’t show up to work or finding cover despite being hospitalized. The one thing that I didn’t let people change was my smile. Despite being in hard times living paycheck to paycheck, I needed to smile in times of darkness. I thought about the future and providing for my baby. I decided I needed a degree and I was going to do whatever it takes to finish it within 2 years. Being mistreated for putting myself first opened my eyes that this is not the lifestyle I wish to live. I need to not please others, but myself. I have a family to look out for and no one will look out for my daughter besides me. Having a baby pushed me to clear out the fog and seek the pathway to further my education. I continue to motivate myself and to push myself to be better, think positive, and to smile in times of struggle. I needed to love myself and to treat myself better and not to put others before me. Although it may seem selfish to put myself before others, my well being is the most important when it comes to my family. I am a provider and a mother. If I am ill, it will affect my daughter. I need to teach her by making myself an example that as an individual, you are important. No one can take that away from you.

    Single Mother's Education Scholarship
Being a single young mother puts you in a reality check. Growing up, my mother left me when I was 3 months to go party instead. I felt lost and needed guidance. My grandparents would work 2 jobs to support my brothers and I to be able to continue to receive an education and survive. I had my child when I was 19 years old. Before I had her, I would jump my majors and delay school. Instead of trying to see what I wanted to pursue in school, I decided to be a server. After I got pregnant, I would worry about the bills I had and how I was going to provide for my child. When I would throw up every hour or felt ill to the point I couldn’t work, my employers would look down on me. I told them I couldn’t work certain days and they would schedule me. I would have to hide and go to the back where the parking was to throw up because I wasn’t allowed to throw up on the toilet. There were days I couldn’t work because I felt ill, I was written up. This made me realize that I can’t do this to my child. A life to work from paycheck to paycheck should not be my lifestyle. This made me motivated to go back to school and do whatever it takes to get a degree. I want to be able to give my child a lifestyle where she can see her mother and be able to spend time with her family. A child is affected when they don’t see their parents. Although I might see that working is to provide, my child would see it that I’m gone and not there for them. My future right now is to pursue an accounting degree. I will utilize that accounting degree to be able to work 40 hours and spend time with my child. As a server I would work 60 hours a week to make only 1000. My future goals is to get a degree and be able to save a money for a house. Somewhere my child and I could live in. Later on, I want to start my own business to be able to renovate houses. I want to buy houses in the future and renovate them and rent them out. Although the housing markets are high, I want to have a main job and a side hustle. With determination, I am able to be an active mother while providing her the necessities. Although right now is a struggle, I want to push myself even if it means overworking myself for the next two years to earn my degree. My baby is 4 months old and I want to be able to finish my degree before she turns 3. I have set my timeframe and now I have to motivate myself to each my goal.
