FinalistBio
My name is Chyna-Lee S. Hunter, a High School Senior graduating in the Top 7% with a G.P.A of 4.57. I am a member of the NHS, HIP, Leaders in Training, Worship Singing Member, and a Silver Knight Award Nominee.
While I am proud of my academic accomplishments, I am appreciative of the experience creating my community service footprints. I currently have over 1000 volunteer hour.
My community service foundation began as a youth volunteer at AMIKids Miami-Dade, which is a fully accredited day treatment program for adjudicated youth offenders.
In that capacity, I engaged with the counselors as well as the Director to help with the struggle of our generation in accordance to troubled and misunderstood youth.
Although I have little experience in the world, I am aware that there are little advocates for youth offenders; therefore, I hunger to do more. In reality we all need a source of positive reinforcement, a kind word, and to be reassured that someone has our backs.
Through my college career, I plan to learn from all facets of individuals directly related to their cultures, religions, values and experiences.
Professionally, I would like to be a Psychologist, with a concentration on adolescent. I witnessed firsthand the importance of psychology and how it can help save an individual. The constant feeling of living to be a reflection of my mother was a challenge and through therapy, I learned how how to honor Chyna-Lee and how to be the authentic me; therefore, I want to be part of the movement for our generation by making all feel included and heard.

First I would like to introduce myself. My name is Chyna-Lee S. Hunter, and I am a High School Senior, who is currently enrolled at Robert Morgan Technical High School in Miami, Florida, with a Grade Point Average (G.P.A) of 4.57. I am graduating within the Top 7% position in my senior Class of 2023. I am a member of the National Honors Society, Health Information Project, Leaders in Training, and a Worship Singing Member. Additionally, I am a Silver Knight Award Nominee.
While I am proud of my academic accomplishments, I am also extremely appreciative of the humbling experience creating my volunteer and community service footprints. I currently have over 1000 volunteer hour, which I am receiving an honor cord for at my senior graduation, along with 3 additional cords for the Top 7%, National Honor Society, and a Silver Knight.
My foundation of community service began 3 years ago as a youth volunteer at AMIKids Miami-Dade, South campus, which is a fully accredited day treatment program for adjudicated youth offenders, from the ages of 13-18 years old. While volunteering, I engaged with the counselors, as well as the Director of the school to help with the struggle of our generation in accordance to troubled and misunderstood youth.
In that capacity, I completed the intake forms, updated system forms, scheduled group and family sessions, and worked directly with the Director of the program to ensure that the enrolled students were receiving all the required documentation to complete the program module. Additionally, I assisted with students that were working towards receiving their G.E.D and those who struggled to get acclamation back into the school system. In addition, I helped with developing a key point system to give the enrolled students added incentives to achieve points to successfully graduate the program.
Although I am young with little experience in the world, I am quite aware that there are little to no advocates in our society for adjudicated youth offenders; therefore, my hunger to do more is vast. The reality is sometimes we all need a push, that is coupled with compassion. To be reassured someone has your back is priceless.
Honestly, I feel sense of satisfaction by what I accomplished at the program, considering that all students need guidance, a source of positive reinforcement, and just a kind word to help them succeed. A non-judgmental zone and a smile goes a long way.
Through my college career, to assist in achieving academic excellence, I plan to learn about all topics that are presented to me. After all, knowledge is power. I also plan to grow and learn from all facets of individuals directly related to their cultures, religions, values and experiences.
In my professional career, I would like to be a psychologist, with a concentration on therapy within the adolescent sector. The importance of psychology became an interests of mine when I witnessed firsthand how much it can help save an individual. The constant feeling of living to be a reflection of my mother was a challenge and only through therapy, I learned how to live for something other than my mother's success. I learned how to honor and to be the authentically me.
The field of psychology welcomes all people and helps them feel safe within their struggles with mental health. Having benefited from therapy, I want to give adolescents a chance to experience the sense of relief I experienced. I want to be part of the movement for our future generations by making them feel included and heard.

Although I am young with little experience in the world, I am quite aware that there are little to no advocates in our society for adjudicated youth offenders; therefore, I knew I had to feed my hunger to do more and help bridge the gap by volunteering. The reality is, sometimes we all need a push, that is coupled with compassion. To be reassured someone has your back is priceless. I also plan to grow and learn from all facets of individuals that directly related to their cultures, religions, knowledge, values and world experiences.
In my professional career, I would like to be a psychologist, with a concentration on therapy within the adolescent sector. The importance of psychology became an interests of mine when I witnessed firsthand how much it can help save an individual by targeting their need mentally. For many years, I experienced the constant feeling of living to be a reflection of my mother. She was poised, intelligent, and in my eyes, perfect. Living to walk in her shoes was an immense mental challenge but through therapy, I learned how to live for something other than my mother's success. I learned how to honor and respect Chyna-Lee and how to be the authentic me.
Additionally, the anxiety I experienced waiting on acceptance letters from the colleges and universities of my choice, threw my in a spiral mental loop; therefore, I decided to seek some mental peace by participating in therapy sessions. The session helped to ground me and give me the patience that I needed to wait for the decisions from the schools to arrive. I wish I could lend that advice to the millions of students going through the same mental breakdown.
The world of psychology welcomes all people from every arm of society and helps them feel safe within their struggles with mental health. Having benefited from therapy, I want to give adolescents a chance to experience the sense of relief I experienced, which will help them conquer today, tomorrow, and future life experiences. I want to be part of the mental health movement for our generation by making all feel included, respected and heard.
