My father passed when I was little, so my mother became both mother and father. Growing up, she ensured that I got everything I needed and more. She has encouraged me in my dance career, and I have done my best to make her proud academically. She has always wanted me to be my best self. Her desire has always been for me to attend college and pursue a well-paying career.
Unfortunately, she was unable to attend college due to her pregnancy with me. That is why Mom supports my plan to attend college, even though the financial burden is difficult for her. I'll be attending Alcorn State University in the fall. I plan to major in Chemistry and concentrate in Biochemistry. After graduating from Alcorn, I intend to go medical school and eventually become an OB/GYN.
I wish to be an OB/GYN because of the high number of African American women who have died as a result of pregnancy-related complications. Many black women are simply not treated fairly because of their skin tone. Many black women are pushed to the sidelines because of their skin tone. This has caused a lot of anxiety among black women around the world, and I'd like to help put an end to it. I intend to be an advocate and comforter for future black mothers. I want to build a sanctuary of calm and love for expectant women. I want to be the doctor that demonstrates that all patients should be treated similarly.
Before I can attend medical school, I need to complete my bachelor's degree. This award would help me pay my tuition and relieve burden on my mother. My mother's main concern right now is my tuition, because she wants me to be able to attend college and pursue my dreams. On the other hand, Mom also needs to care for my brother, who is starting high school in the fall. She still has bills and rent to pay that gets higher by the day. The closer it gets to school, the more stressed she becomes. I would greatly appreciate this scholarship since it demonstrates that my academic efforts have paid off and have helped my mother in some manner. This grant will also cover a large chunk of my tuition. I am extremely grateful to the contributors for doing this for persons in situations similar to mine. Thank you, and I appreciate the opportunity.

Hi, my name is Christiyana Davis and I am the daughter of a single mother who is raising two kids. I grew up with the love a babies specifically and it always came natural to me on how to take care of babies. At first I thought about being a pediatrician but once I learned more about an OB/GYN, I fell in love.
There are many young girls who are afraid to go their parents about a lot of things going on with their body so I want to be that person they can confide in and show them genuine care. Sometimes all a person needs is someone to care for them. There are also many women who grow up with a motherly figure in their to help them with things such as their Ph balance. I want to that person to inform them without them feeling bad or embarrassed. I plan on becoming an OB/GYN. I aspire to make all women feel confident and comfortable with their bodies. This is especially needed right now in the world with all the controversy going on.
This world is changing at a fast pace and we have to learn to change with it. As a black woman I understand most about the fear that comes with especially the fear about not having power over our bodies. I want to help ease that fear with all my patients. Growing up I knew of some young ladies who have gotten pregnant at a young age and scared on what the world may think and what to do next. I want all patients to know all their options and not be guilty about whatever option they make. Many women also have a fear of giving birth and I want them to be so comfortable with me to where they can set that fear to the side and enjoy their pregnancy. I just want to be that confidant that they may have been missing.
At the age of 17 it is scary going to a random person and have them around your most valuable parts. So I want to use my experience to make the person I take care of better. I hope from my essay you can see how passionate I am on making my patients comfortable and confident with their bodies. I feel as though that I what we need most in the world and I don’t mind being that person.
Thank you for your time.
