Three months before the pandemic I lost it all. I was married with three children and working as a lab medical assistant. Due to domestic violence I had to leave my job and seek shelter. I was living in a new environment at a domestic violence shelter with my three kids in one room. As I was transitioning the world shut down. I was beyond devastated. Being in a new area with no resources, no family, no friends and we were now not allowed outside. I had no transportation so I had to walk to the store and could only buy groceries daily as we couldn’t have food in our rooms, and they were to be stored in the community pantry. The community pantry was constantly empty as many other families were stealing each other’s food. I overcame the cards that I was dealt in such an unexpected pandemic. I could have given up, I thought about giving up many times. I decided to try my best to move forward and stay positive. Afterall my 3 reasons why in life for everything are my kids: Christian, Faith & Grace. I’m tearing up thinking about how far I have come now with a roof over my head. I strive to not only give my children a better life but to beat the generational curses that are bestowed upon me. I have such a caring spirit, a golden heart as I call it. I was always meant to be the nurse that you remembered and helped you in your mist of need. I was always meant to help others, love on others and be the support in the hospital that is very much needed. This scholarship will allow me to achieve my goals of being the nurse that I know I am supposed to be. It will allow me to have a brighter future as I do desire to be a homeowner and provide my kids with a stable environment. Dreams are meant to be chased and come true. I want to be the person my children look up to and want to be like when they grow up. I never wanted to be their superhero more until life made me understand, patience, gratitude and a new outlook on life. This scholarship would allow me to not be called a statistic aka divorced single mother of three instead I would be called Christine Thompson Registered Nurse.
