I am pursuing a business degree because I believe that it is the most effective way for me to achieve my long-term goals and make a positive impact on my community. I have always been interested in the world of business and finance, and I am drawn to the idea of using my knowledge and skills to create positive change and empower others. One of my primary goals is to use my business degree to eventually own my own firm where I can invest in and support entrepreneurs from marginalized communities. I believe that by providing access to capital and resources, I can help these entrepreneurs to succeed and make a positive impact on their own communities. I am particularly interested in working with entrepreneurs who are focused on addressing important social issues and making a difference in the world. In addition to my career goals, I also plan to use my education to actively give back to my community in other ways. I am committed to staying involved in my community and finding ways to make a difference through volunteering and service work. I believe that it is important to not only succeed in my own endeavors but also to use my skills and resources to support and empower others. As a first-generation college student, I have faced a unique set of challenges and obstacles in my educational journey. Without the benefit of familial experience or guidance, I have often had to navigate the world of higher education on my own, figuring out how to balance my coursework with my other responsibilities and commitments. Despite these challenges, I am proud to say that despite the challenges I have faced as a first-generation college student, I am proud to say that I have persevered and am now on the path toward achieving my goals. However, I am well aware that the journey toward success is never easy, and that there will be many more challenges and obstacles to overcome in the future. That is why I am determined to make the most of my education and to use it as a tool to not only better my own life, but also to make a positive impact on my community and the world. I am committed to working hard and staying focused on my goals, and I believe that with hard work, determination, and the support of others, I can achieve anything I set my mind to. In conclusion, I am pursuing a business degree because I believe that it is the most effective way for me to achieve my long-term goals and make a positive impact on my community. I am excited to see what the future holds and to continue working toward my goals, and I am determined to use my education to make a difference and create meaningful change in the world.
Dr. Sharyn First-Generation in Business Scholarship
As a first-generation college student, I have faced a unique set of challenges and obstacles in my educational journey. Without the benefit of familial experience or guidance, I have often had to navigate the world of higher education on my own, figuring out how to balance my coursework with my other responsibilities and commitments. Despite these challenges, I am proud to say that I have persevered and am now entering my sophomore year at Carnegie Mellon University. However, I am well aware of the fact that the second year of college is often when students experience the so-called "sophomore slump" and struggle to persist in their education. Research shows that this can be due to a number of factors, including increased academic demands, financial stress, and social isolation. As a result, I am determined to do everything I can to avoid falling victim to the sophomore slump and to continue to thrive in my studies. One way that I plan to manage the challenges of becoming a sophomore is by staying organized and on top of my coursework. I know that the workload in college only gets more demanding as you progress, so it is important to stay ahead of the game and make sure that I am managing my time effectively. This will involve setting clear goals and priorities, breaking tasks down into manageable chunks, and using tools like calendars and to-do lists to stay on track. I also plan to stay actively involved in extracurricular activities and build a strong support network of friends, mentors, and advisors. I believe that being connected to others and having a sense of community can be a powerful source of motivation and support, especially during times of stress or challenge. I am committed to seeking out opportunities to get involved and build meaningful relationships with others on campus. I am determined to keep my long-term goals and aspirations in mind as I navigate the challenges of becoming a sophomore. I know that a college education is a significant investment of time and resources, and I am committed to making the most of this opportunity. To me, a college education means more than just obtaining a degree. It means gaining the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to make a positive impact on the world and achieve my goals. It means being exposed to new ideas and perspectives, and being challenged to think critically and independently. It means building a strong foundation for a fulfilling and meaningful career. Overall, I am grateful for the opportunity to further my education and am committed to working hard and staying focused on my goals. I know that the journey to success is never easy, but I am confident that with hard work, determination, and the support of others, I can overcome any obstacle and achieve my dreams.
Linda "Noni" Anderson Memorial Music & Arts Scholarship
I am deeply passionate about the creative arts because I believe they have the power to inspire, uplift, and connect people in ways that nothing else can. Whether it is through a painting, a sculpture, a piece of music, or a performance, the arts have the ability to move us and speak to us in ways that words cannot. They allow us to express and explore our emotions and experiences in a way that is uniquely human, and they bring us together in a shared appreciation of beauty and creativity. One piece of art that is particularly important to me is Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night." I was first introduced to this painting in high school art class, and I was immediately struck by its beauty and emotional depth. The swirling, expressive brushstrokes and vibrant colors capture the feeling of a turbulent night sky, and there is a sense of movement and energy that draws you in. But it is not just the technical skills and aesthetic qualities of the painting that make it so special to me. It is also the emotional impact it has had on me. When I look at "Starry Night," I feel a sense of peace and calm wash over me. It is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is beauty and hope to be found. And it is a testament to the power of art to capture and convey deep emotions and experiences. But my love for the arts extends far beyond just this one painting. I am fascinated by the endless variety of creative expression that exists in the world, and I am always inspired by the talent and passion of artists in all mediums. Whether it is through music, dance, film, or any other art form, I am constantly in awe of the way that the arts can move us and connect us to something deeper and more universal. For me, the arts have always been a source of solace and inspiration. They have provided a way for me to express myself and explore my own emotions and experiences, and they have given me a sense of purpose and fulfillment that is hard to find elsewhere. They have also helped me to connect with others and form deeper, more meaningful relationships. Whether it is through sharing a favorite piece of art or music or simply engaging in a lively discussion about a particular artist or style, the arts have a way of bringing people together and fostering a sense of community and connection. In a world that can often feel divided and disconnected, the arts have the power to bring us together and remind us of our shared humanity. They allow us to see the world from a different perspective, to understand and empathize with others, and to find beauty and meaning in the world around us. And for these reasons, I will always be deeply passionate about the creative arts and the role they play in our lives.

Education has always been important to me, and it has brought countless values and benefits to my life. Growing up in a low-income, marginalized community, I saw firsthand the ways in which a lack of education can hold individuals back and limit their opportunities. But despite the challenges and obstacles I faced, I was determined to succeed and make the most of my education. One of the most valuable things that education has given me is a sense of hope and possibility. It has shown me that with hard work and dedication, I can overcome any obstacle and achieve my goals. It has also provided me with the knowledge and skills to understand and navigate the world around me, empowering me to make informed decisions and take control of my own future. But education has brought me more than just personal growth and development. It has also given me the opportunity to give back and make a positive impact on my community. As a student at Carnegie Mellon University, I have been fortunate enough to have access to some of the best resources and opportunities in the country. And I am determined to use these resources to make a difference and pay it forward to those who have supported me along the way. One way that I have been able to give back to my community is through volunteering and service work. I have worked with organizations that provide support to homeless youth, and I have also organized fundraisers and other events to raise money and awareness for important causes. These experiences have not only allowed me to make a tangible difference in the lives of others, but they have also given me a sense of purpose and fulfillment that is hard to find elsewhere. But my dedication to education and service extends beyond just my time in college. I am also committed to using my future career to make a positive impact on the world. I am passionate about investment banking and private equity, and I believe that my knowledge and expertise in these fields can be used to empower marginalized communities and invest in the entrepreneurs and leaders of tomorrow. I hope to eventually own my own firm where I can continue to make a difference and use my skills to make a positive impact. In conclusion, education has brought countless values and benefits to my life, and I believe it is one of the most important things we can pursue. It has given me hope and possibility, personal growth and development, and the opportunity to give back and make a positive impact on my community. And I am committed to using my education and skills to make a difference and pay it forward to those who have supported me along the way.
      CATALYSTS Scholarship
As a sophomore at Carnegie Mellon University with a passion for investment banking and private equity, I am dedicated to using my knowledge and expertise in the financial markets to empower marginalized communities and make a positive impact on the world. One social issue that I am particularly passionate about addressing is the lack of financial literacy in these communities. Many people in marginalized areas do not have access to the same financial resources and education as those in more privileged areas, leading to a perpetuation of systemic inequalities. I believe that by increasing financial literacy in marginalized communities, we can empower individuals to make informed financial decisions and take control of their own financial futures. This is why I am committed to using my future career in investment banking and private equity to invest in and support entrepreneurs from these communities, and why I hope to eventually own my own firm where I can continue to make a difference. But my desire to make a positive impact extends beyond my career aspirations. I am also actively involved in my community, volunteering and giving back in any way that I can. One time that I made a significant contribution to my community was when I organized a fundraiser for a local shelter for homeless youth. I worked with a team of volunteers to plan and execute the event, and we were able to raise over $5,000 in donations. This experience taught me the value of teamwork and collaboration, and it also showed me the power of individual action to make a positive impact in my community. "Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family." - Kofi Annan. I strongly believe in the transformative power of education, and I am grateful for the opportunity to further my own education and work towards creating positive change in my community. With a passion for financial literacy and dedication to making a difference, I am eager to see what the future holds and to continue working toward my goals. I believe in a future where no matter where you come from you will be able to elevate yourself to a position where you can be financially stable and make smart choices with your money. This future is obtainable and I know that I can blaze the trail for this future to not only be an idea or concept but to be our reality.
