I believe that food is one of the most powerful tools we have to build a better world. At its core, nutrition is not just about what’s on our plates; it’s about access, equity, education, and empowerment. As a woman pursuing a master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition, I’m passionate about improving food security and health outcomes in underserved communities. I see nutrition as a bridge; one that connects science to people and transforms knowledge into action. The local issue I feel most passionate about is the intersection of poverty, chronic disease, and limited access to nutrition education. Many families, especially in low-income or historically marginalized areas, are stuck in cycles of preventable illness due to the systemic barriers that limit their access to healthy food, quality healthcare, and culturally competent education. I’ve seen firsthand how diabetes, heart disease, and obesity devastate communities. I’ve also seen how a little guidance and access to simple, affordable nutrition education can spark real change in someone’s life. I plan to use my education to become a registered dietitian with a focus on public health. My long-term goal is to develop community-based nutrition programs that empower people to take control of their health. I want to create culturally relevant resources, host cooking and wellness workshops, and work with schools and clinics to deliver preventative care rooted in education. I envision working in partnership with community leaders to create environments where people don’t just survive; they thrive. My military background and experience as a caregiver have taught me the importance of service, discipline, and adaptability. I’ve learned that change doesn’t always come in sweeping movements; sometimes, it starts with one conversation, one meal, one person. As a woman in STEM, I believe it is my responsibility to bring both knowledge and heart into my work. I want to be the kind of leader who listens deeply, meets people where they are, and builds solutions alongside the communities I serve. This scholarship would ease the financial burden of graduate school and allow me to stay focused on what truly matters: creating sustainable, community-centered solutions that address health disparities. With this support, I will continue building a future where health education is accessible to all, regardless of income or background. I am committed to using my skills not just to advance in my career, but to serve with intention. Science, when paired with compassion, can change the world. I plan to do just that one meal, one class, one community at a time.
Leela Shah "Be Bold" Womens' Empowerment Scholarship
Rooted in Her Strength: How My Mother Shaped My Journey My mother has always been my foundation; a steady, loving presence whose strength shaped me into the woman I am today. While life didn’t hand us ease or luxury, it handed us each other. Watching my mother work tirelessly, sometimes holding down two jobs and always holding us together, instilled in me the values of resilience, humility, and ambition. She didn’t always have the words. Her actions spoke volumes. From an early age, I learned that independence wasn’t just a dream. It was a necessity, and it was possible. Growing up, I watched my mom carry the weight of the world and still smile for her children. She taught me to face hardship with grace and to never let circumstances define me. Whether it was stretching a single paycheck to feed a household or cheering me on as I filled out my first college application, she showed me that success isn’t about perfection. It is about perseverance. She didn’t have the opportunity to pursue higher education. She made it her mission to ensure that I did. When I decided to enlist in the military at 17, my mom supported me even though it meant sending her teenage daughter off into the unknown. She didn’t try to stop me. Instead, she equipped me with emotional armor. She reminded me that I was brave and capable, even when I didn’t feel like it. That courage carried me through boot camp, long deployments, and later, through heartbreak and hard decisions. After leaving the military, I returned to Texas with more questions than answers. I had big dreams but limited resources. Again, it was my mother’s unwavering faith in me that kept me going. I enrolled in community college, then transferred to Texas Woman’s University where I recently earned my bachelor’s degree in Nutrition. I am now pursuing a master’s in Clinical Nutrition with the goal of becoming a registered dietitian. My dream is to work in underserved communities, empowering individuals with the tools and knowledge they need to take control of their health. I want to help people like my mother; people who gave everything to others and deserve the same care in return. This scholarship would be a blessing. Graduate school is both rewarding and expensive. Receiving this financial support would help me continue my education without the constant stress of tuition and textbook costs. More importantly, it would allow me to stay focused on my goal. I want to create a future where I can serve others through education, empathy, and nutrition. My mother always told me, “We don’t come from much, but we come from love. Love builds futures.” I carry that with me every day. Her sacrifices and her belief in me are why I stand tall today. She taught me to lead with heart, to never stop learning, and to always reach back as I climb. With this scholarship, I will continue to rise. I will do so in her honor.
    First-Gen Futures Scholarship
Breaking Cycles and Building Futures: My Journey as a First-Generation College Student Choosing to pursue higher education wasn’t just a personal decision; it was a commitment to break cycles, create opportunity, and redefine what’s possible for myself and those who come after me. As a first-generation college student, I’ve had to navigate the world of higher education without a blueprint. In every challenge, I found strength. In every step forward, I found purpose. My path to college wasn’t traditional. I enlisted in the military at 17, seeking structure, stability, and a sense of direction. The military gave me invaluable skills. I developed discipline, resilience, and the ability to adapt quickly under pressure. It also introduced me to the reality that access to education and resources can transform a life. During my time in service, I realized I wanted more than just a job. I wanted to build a career that allowed me to serve others in a different way. That realization planted the seed for my journey in higher education. After leaving the military, I began the long and often uncertain road toward a college degree. Without family members who had navigated this path before me, I had to learn how to apply, register, choose classes, and manage the financial and emotional weight of being a student. I did this all on my own. I was determined. I completed my associate’s degree at Tarrant County College, then transferred to Texas Woman’s University, where I recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. I am now pursuing my master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition with the goal of becoming a registered dietitian. My preparation for college wasn’t always about academics. It was also about learning how to advocate for myself, ask for help when needed, and stay focused on my long-term vision. I sought out mentors, joined student organizations, worked multiple jobs, and applied for every scholarship I could find. I also leaned into therapy and personal development work. I spent time healing from past trauma and learning how to believe in myself. These experiences strengthened my confidence and helped me stay grounded through the tough moments. Being a first-generation student means carrying both pride and pressure. I feel the weight of representing my family and the joy of knowing I’m creating a new legacy. My education isn’t just for me. It’s for my younger siblings, my future clients, and the communities I will serve. It’s for the version of myself that didn’t know if college would ever be within reach. Higher education has changed the course of my life. It has given me a voice, a purpose, and the tools to make a meaningful impact. As I continue my journey, I remain deeply committed to using my education to empower others, especially those from backgrounds like mine. Receiving this scholarship would not only ease the financial burden of graduate school; it would also be an investment in someone who is determined to pay it forward.
Public Service Scholarship of the Law Office of Shane Kadlec
Fueling Change: My Commitment to Public Service Through Nutrition When I decided to pursue a career in nutrition and dietetics, I knew it had to be about more than just food I wanted to be part of something that made people feel seen, cared for, and empowered. I want to become a registered dietitian not only to educate others about healthy eating but to help close the gap in access to nutrition and health services that continues to grow in underserved communities. Public service, to me, means showing up for people who are often overlooked. It means offering care, support, and dignity through every plate of food, every counseling session, and every health education opportunity. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand how health disparities affect individuals and families especially in communities with limited access to fresh food, transportation, and quality healthcare. I’ve seen the long-term consequences of unmanaged chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension, and I’ve also seen the shame and confusion that people often feel around food choices. These experiences shaped my passion and pushed me to pursue higher education in nutrition. I recently earned my bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and am currently working toward my master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition. Public service has been at the heart of my journey from the start. Before returning to school, I served in the U.S. military. My time in service instilled in me a strong sense of responsibility to others and the power of showing up with purpose. Since transitioning out of the military, I’ve dedicated myself to community wellness, working as a personal trainer, health coach, and now as a student dietitian. I’ve provided volunteer nutrition education workshops, designed accessible meal planning resources, and worked one-on-one with clients to help them feel confident about their food choices; regardless of income or background. What drives me is the belief that everyone deserves the tools and support to lead a healthy life. That belief fuels my commitment to public service and my long-term goal to work in community health settings, such as local clinics, schools, or nonprofit organizations. I want to help bridge the gap between science and the real-world struggles people face; whether it’s navigating SNAP benefits, managing a new diagnosis, or figuring out how to feed a family on a tight budget. This scholarship would directly support my ability to continue this path. With less financial strain, I can focus more on clinical rotations, community outreach projects, and further developing the skills needed to serve others. It would also help me continue giving back through volunteer programs and internships that don’t always offer compensation but are vital for building experience and creating change. I’m not just pursuing a career; I’m pursuing a calling. Becoming a dietitian is how I plan to contribute to a healthier, more equitable future, one meal and one person at a time. Public service is the foundation of that mission, and with your support, I’ll be even closer to making that mission a reality.
    Cariloop’s Caregiver Scholarship
My Journey as a Caregiver: Supporting My Brother, Shaping My Future Caring for someone you love isn’t something you plan for; it’s something you grow into. My caregiving journey began when I stepped in to support my brother, a 100% disabled veteran. I didn’t know what to expect at first, but over time, caregiving became a meaningful part of my life; both a responsibility and a privilege. My brother gave his all in service to this country, and it has been an honor to give my all in supporting his quality of life. My caregiving role includes a wide range of tasks that help maintain his physical and emotional well-being. I assist him with daily routines such as meal preparation, transportation to and from medical appointments, managing prescriptions, and helping him navigate his VA benefits. I also take on more intangible responsibilities, like keeping him company through difficult days, advocating for his needs, and offering emotional support when PTSD and chronic pain become overwhelming. While some may view caregiving as a burden, I see it as a way of expressing love, gratitude, and solidarity with someone who has sacrificed so much. Being a caregiver has profoundly shaped who I am. It’s taught me resilience, empathy, and patience in ways that no classroom ever could. I’ve learned how to navigate complex systems, from the VA to social services, and how to advocate assertively and compassionately. These experiences have also impacted my career goals. I’m currently pursuing a master’s degree in nutrition, with the intention of becoming a registered dietitian specializing in underserved populations, including veterans. I believe nutrition is a powerful yet often overlooked form of preventive care and healing, and I want to use my education to support others like my brother people whose health and dignity deserve to be protected and uplifted. Balancing school and caregiving hasn’t been easy. There have been times when assignments had to wait because a crisis came first, or when I had to study late into the night after a long day of caregiving. But those sacrifices have only strengthened my commitment. They remind me every day that I am capable of handling both responsibility and ambition. They’ve also taught me the value of community how vital it is to ask for help, to lean on others, and to accept support when it’s offered. Receiving this scholarship would be more than just financial assistance; it would be an acknowledgment of the invisible labor so many caregivers do every day. It would relieve some of the pressure that comes with juggling tuition costs, household responsibilities, and the unpredictable needs of caregiving. More importantly, it would allow me to focus more fully on my education and future goals, knowing that someone believes in both the work I’ve done and the work I plan to do. Ultimately, caregiving has been one of the most defining chapters of my life. It has challenged me, shaped me, and inspired me to pursue a future where I can serve others with the same compassion and strength I’ve learned from supporting my brother. With the help of this scholarship, I will continue moving forward; carrying both the lessons of the past and the hope for a better, healthier future for myself, my brother, and the people I plan to serve.
A Man Helping Women Helping Women Scholarship
My journey has been anything but conventional, but every experience—whether in the military, fitness industry, or academia—has shaped my passion for helping others through the power of nutrition. As a veteran, I have seen firsthand how physical and mental health can make or break a person’s quality of life. As a former health coach and personal trainer, I have worked with individuals who struggled with weight management, metabolic disorders, and a lack of confidence in their ability to improve their health. Now, as I pursue my master’s degree in clinical dietetics, I am committed to using science-backed nutrition education to transform lives, particularly for those who feel unheard or underserved by the healthcare system. Nutrition is often reduced to numbers—calories in, calories out—but I believe true health extends beyond the plate. My goal as a dietitian is to take a holistic approach, addressing the emotional, behavioral, and socioeconomic factors that influence eating habits. Many patients, especially those with chronic illnesses, struggle with more than just food choices; they battle stress, limited resources, and a lack of education about their condition. By combining my background in nutrition science with a deep understanding of human behavior, I aim to create personalized, realistic solutions that help people regain control of their health. One of my passions is working with veterans and individuals with PTSD, as I have seen how trauma can impact eating habits, metabolism, and overall well-being. Many veterans struggle with poor nutrition due to depression, anxiety, or simply not having the tools to make better choices. I want to advocate for better nutrition programs in veteran healthcare facilities, ensuring that those who have served receive the support they need to lead healthier lives. Beyond individual patient care, I am passionate about making a broader impact through nutrition education and public health advocacy. There is a vast amount of misinformation about food, and many people—especially in marginalized communities—do not have access to credible, science-based nutrition education. I plan to create community outreach programs that teach people how to eat well on a budget, navigate grocery stores, and understand how food can be used as medicine. Additionally, I hope to contribute to the growing body of research in clinical dietetics, particularly in areas related to metabolic health, inflammation, and chronic disease prevention. As a woman in STEM, I want to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and real-world application, ensuring that the latest research reaches the people who need it most. I did not take the traditional path to dietetics, but every step of my journey has reinforced my belief in the power of nutrition to change lives. Whether working with veterans, low-income families, or individuals struggling with chronic disease, my goal is always the same: to provide compassionate, evidence-based care that empowers people to take control of their health. If given the opportunity, I will dedicate my career to making nutrition accessible, practical, and life-changing. Through education, advocacy, and direct patient care, I hope to leave a lasting impact—not just in individual lives, but in the way we approach healthcare as a whole.
    Women in STEM Scholarship
If awarded this scholarship, I would dedicate my expertise in clinical dietetics to educating and assisting patients and their families in making informed, sustainable nutritional choices that support both the prevention and management of major medical conditions. The connection between nutrition and health is undeniable—research continues to reveal how dietary choices influence the development and progression of conditions such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and autoimmune disorders. As a future registered dietitian, my mission is to bridge the gap between scientific research and real-world application, empowering individuals to reclaim their health through food. Many people overlook nutrition as a STEM field, but it is deeply rooted in biology, chemistry, and human physiology. Every bite we take sets off a cascade of biochemical reactions in the body, influencing metabolism, hormone regulation, immune function, and even gene expression. As a clinical dietitian, I will use evidence-based strategies to translate this complex science into practical recommendations that help patients thrive. For example, for a patient managing heart disease, I would focus on the impact of dietary cholesterol and saturated fat on lipid profiles, while also explaining how fiber and omega-3 fatty acids can improve cardiovascular health. For cancer patients, I would highlight the role of antioxidants and phytonutrients in reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. Patients with diabetes would benefit from understanding how carbohydrates, proteins, and fats interact to influence blood sugar levels. Through science-backed education, I hope to help patients make choices that not only nourish them but also provide a deeper understanding of how food fuels their bodies. Science alone is not enough—patients need guidance on how to apply this knowledge in their everyday lives. One of the biggest barriers to health is the overwhelming amount of misinformation about nutrition. My goal is to cut through the confusion and provide clear, actionable steps that make healthy eating achievable for everyone. I believe in meeting patients where they are. If a single mother is struggling to feed her family on a limited budget, I won’t just tell her to “eat more vegetables”—I’ll teach her how to prepare affordable, nutrient-dense meals that fit within her lifestyle. If an elderly patient with arthritis finds cooking difficult, I’ll help them find convenient, healthy options that require minimal effort. My approach is rooted in empathy, science, and practicality, ensuring that nutrition advice is both effective and sustainable. This scholarship represents more than financial assistance—it symbolizes a commitment to fostering a community of women empowered by knowledge and driven by curiosity. As a woman in the STEM field of clinical dietetics, I am passionate about using science to improve lives. I want to inspire other women to pursue careers in nutrition and healthcare, showing them that food is more than just sustenance—it’s a powerful tool for disease prevention, healing, and longevity. If awarded this scholarship, I will use my education and passion to advocate for better nutrition education in clinical settings, empower patients and their families, and contribute to the growing body of research on the intersection of diet and disease. Through science, compassion, and a relentless curiosity to learn, I hope to make a lasting impact in the world of healthcare—one meal, one patient, and one lesson at a time.
    Amber D. Hudson Memorial Scholarship
If awarded this opportunity, I would dedicate my expertise in clinical dietetics to educating and assisting patients and their families in making informed, sustainable nutritional choices that support both the prevention and management of major medical conditions. Research has shown that dietary choices significantly influence the development and progression of conditions such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and autoimmune disorders. My goal would be to bridge the gap between nutritional science and practical application, empowering patients to take control of their health through informed dietary decisions. One of the biggest challenges in nutrition counseling is ensuring that recommendations are both evidence-based and personalized. Each patient has unique needs based on their medical history, cultural background, financial situation, and personal preferences. Rather than providing generic advice, I would tailor my approach to each individual, ensuring that dietary modifications are realistic and sustainable. For instance, for a patient managing heart disease, I would focus on reducing saturated fat, sodium, and processed foods while increasing fiber, healthy fats, and lean proteins. For cancer patients, I would emphasize nutrient-dense, high-antioxidant foods that support immune function and energy levels. Patients with diabetes would benefit from strategies that stabilize blood sugar, such as balancing carbohydrate intake with protein and fiber-rich foods. By focusing on individualized strategies, I would help patients make meaningful changes that fit their lifestyle. It is not enough for patients to understand what they should eat—they also need practical strategies to implement these changes in their daily lives. I would provide patients and their families with hands-on guidance, including meal planning assistance, grocery shopping tips, and simple, budget-friendly recipes. Since many chronic diseases affect entire households, I would encourage family involvement, helping caregivers and loved ones support the patient’s nutritional goals. Additionally, I would focus on health literacy, ensuring that complex nutrition information is easy to understand. This might involve using visual aids, interactive workshops, or cooking demonstrations to reinforce key concepts. Educating patients in a way that feels accessible and engaging increases the likelihood of long-term adherence to healthy habits. Beyond direct patient education, I hope to advocate for greater awareness of the role nutrition plays in disease prevention. Whether through community outreach, online resources, or patient support groups, I want to make nutrition education widely accessible. If awarded this opportunity, I would use my knowledge and experience to make a lasting impact on patients’ lives, helping them not only extend their lifespan but also improve their quality of life. Through education, compassion, and practical guidance, I aim to empower individuals and families to take control of their health—one meal at a time.
    Bryent Smothermon PTSD Awareness Scholarship
As a veteran, I have seen firsthand the lasting impact of military service on both myself and those around me. However, my understanding of service-related PTSD deepened through my brother’s struggle with it. Watching him navigate the challenges of post-traumatic stress has given me a perspective that extends beyond my own experiences, shaping the way I view mental health, resilience, and the need for better support systems for veterans. One of the most important lessons I have learned through this journey is that PTSD is not a one-size-fits-all condition. It manifests differently for each person, affecting their emotions, behaviors, and relationships in unique ways. My brother, for example, has faced intense bouts of anxiety, hypervigilance, and withdrawal from the people who love him. In many ways, I saw a reflection of struggles that other veterans I’ve met have shared—difficulty adjusting to civilian life, feeling disconnected from others, and the constant mental replay of traumatic experiences. However, while I could empathize, I also realized that support is not about simply understanding—it’s about action. Through my brother’s journey, I have come to appreciate the power of patience and presence. PTSD is not something that can be “fixed” overnight, nor is it something that disappears with time alone. Healing requires effort, resources, and—most importantly—a community that does not judge but rather encourages growth at one’s own pace. I have learned that sometimes, the best thing I can do for him is just to be there, to listen without trying to solve everything, and to remind him that he is not alone. Beyond personal lessons, this experience has fueled a passion in me to help other veterans who are struggling with PTSD. One of the biggest obstacles for many veterans is the stigma surrounding mental health. The military often conditions service members to prioritize toughness and resilience, which, while valuable in combat, can make it difficult to ask for help when they need it most. I hope to contribute to shifting that mindset—helping veterans understand that seeking help is not a sign of weakness but rather an act of strength. Through my background in nutrition and health coaching, I also recognize the critical role that physical well-being plays in mental health. PTSD can be exacerbated by poor nutrition, lack of movement, and irregular sleep patterns. I want to use my expertise to educate veterans on how lifestyle changes—such as regular exercise, proper nutrition, and mindfulness practices—can improve mental health outcomes. Small, sustainable habits can make a significant difference, and I hope to help veterans implement these changes in a way that feels manageable and empowering. Additionally, I want to advocate for more accessible resources for veterans, whether that means connecting them with therapy options, peer support groups, or alternative healing modalities such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), meditation, or structured fitness programs designed for PTSD recovery. Many veterans are either unaware of these resources or feel hesitant to seek them out, and I want to bridge that gap by increasing awareness and making these options more approachable. Ultimately, my goal is to use my experiences to foster understanding, support, and hope. PTSD can feel like an isolating battle, but no veteran should have to fight it alone. Whether through education, advocacy, or simply being present for those who are struggling, I am committed to being part of the solution—one that encourages healing, resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose for those who have given so much in service to their country.
Learner Online Learning Innovator Scholarship for Veterans
As a graduate student in clinical dietetics and a nutrition professional, I have found that online platforms, tools, and resources play an essential role in expanding my understanding of the field. Nutrition science is constantly evolving, and staying up to date requires engagement with credible sources, research databases, and interactive learning tools. Utilizing these resources has not only deepened my theoretical knowledge but also improved my ability to apply it in real-world settings—whether in my studies, coaching business, or clinical practice. One of the most valuable resources I rely on is PubMed, a comprehensive database of peer-reviewed research. PubMed allows me to access the latest studies on clinical nutrition, metabolism, and dietary interventions, helping me stay informed about evidence-based practices. This has been especially useful when analyzing emerging trends in gut health, body recomposition, and chronic disease management. Similarly, Google Scholar provides a broader scope of academic literature, allowing me to cross-reference findings and develop a critical approach to evaluating nutritional claims. In addition to research databases, Examine.com has been an invaluable tool for breaking down complex nutritional topics into digestible, science-backed summaries. This platform helps me interpret clinical studies without bias, ensuring that I can differentiate between well-supported recommendations and industry trends lacking solid evidence. When designing nutrition programs for clients, I use Examine.com to verify the efficacy of supplements, dietary strategies, and macronutrient protocols. For practical application, I engage with Cronometer and MyFitnessPal, two nutrition tracking tools that help me understand dietary patterns and nutrient intake. These platforms have been instrumental in my work as a coach, as they allow me to assess clients’ food logs, monitor macronutrient distribution, and adjust meal plans based on individual needs. Additionally, NutriWiki and Dietitian Central provide continuing education webinars, case studies, and discussion forums where I can engage with other professionals and stay current with best practices in clinical dietetics. Beyond traditional research and tracking tools, I leverage YouTube and podcasts to reinforce my learning. Channels like Dr. Mike Israetel (Renaissance Periodization) and Layne Norton (Biolayne) offer deep dives into sports nutrition and metabolic adaptation, helping me refine my approach to body recomposition. Podcasts such as Sigma Nutrition Radio and The Dietitian Connection Podcast expose me to expert discussions on topics like hormonal health, weight management, and advanced clinical interventions. Finally, online academic platforms like Coursera allow me to expand my knowledge beyond nutrition by taking courses in areas such as behavior change psychology, business development, and communication—skills that are crucial for both patient care and running a successful coaching business. By integrating these online tools and resources into my education and practice, I have been able to bridge the gap between theory and application. These platforms not only enhance my academic learning but also provide me with the practical skills necessary to make evidence-based recommendations, create effective nutrition plans, and ultimately, improve the lives of those I work with.
    Dick Loges Veteran Entrepreneur Scholarship
While I am a veteran myself, I also recognize the profound impact that military service and entrepreneurship can have on shaping a person’s mindset, work ethic, and aspirations. My own journey—both in and out of the military—has been deeply influenced by the values of discipline, resilience, and adaptability that come with service. In many ways, my experiences have mirrored the entrepreneurial mindset: navigating challenges, taking calculated risks, and developing the ability to lead with confidence. My transition from military service to the world of health and nutrition was fueled by a desire to continue serving others in a meaningful way. The military taught me the importance of structure, mission-oriented thinking, and accountability—qualities that have been invaluable as I pursued my degree in nutrition and started my own coaching business. Much like an entrepreneur, I learned to problem-solve, adapt to new environments, and take ownership of my success. The entrepreneurial spirit that often thrives within the veteran community inspired me to take control of my career path, leading me to launch my own virtual coaching business, where I specialize in body recomposition and long-term health transformations. The military also instilled in me a deep respect for continuous learning and professional development. This mindset has driven my pursuit of higher education, from completing my undergraduate degree in nutrition to now working toward my master’s in clinical dietetics. I see education as the foundation for making a lasting impact—whether in a clinical setting, through community outreach, or by further developing my business to help individuals achieve sustainable health goals. Beyond personal inspiration, I have seen firsthand how veterans often approach life with an entrepreneurial mindset, whether in business or in their approach to career transitions. The ability to strategize, execute plans under pressure, and remain mission-focused has guided my path in both academia and my professional aspirations. It has reinforced my belief that success is not just about knowledge but also about perseverance, adaptability, and a commitment to a larger purpose. As I continue my educational journey, I am motivated by the idea that I can merge my military experience, my passion for health, and my entrepreneurial spirit to create something truly impactful. Whether working as a registered dietitian in a clinical setting or expanding my own practice, my goal remains the same: to educate, empower, and guide others toward better health. My time in the military—and the example set by veteran entrepreneurs—has shown me that with dedication and strategic planning, I can build a career that is both fulfilling and transformative for others.
    Veterans & Family Scholarship
Growing up, I always had a deep appreciation for discipline, structure, and the pursuit of something greater than myself. This mindset ultimately led me to join the military, where I served with pride and resilience. My time in the service instilled in me a strong work ethic, adaptability, and the ability to perform under pressure—qualities that have shaped who I am today. The military challenged me both mentally and physically, pushing me to develop leadership skills and a deep sense of responsibility. These experiences have been invaluable as I navigate my current academic and professional pursuits. After transitioning out of the military, I sought a career path that would allow me to continue serving others in a meaningful way. My passion for health, fitness, and science led me to pursue a degree in nutrition. I started my journey by working as a health coach and personal trainer, helping individuals achieve their fitness goals through balanced eating and structured exercise. Wanting to expand my knowledge and impact, I launched my own coaching business, where I specialize in body recomposition—helping clients achieve sustainable fat loss and muscle gain through moderate, evidence-based approaches. Currently, I am in the final semester of my undergraduate degree in nutrition, and I am actively working toward my master’s in clinical dietetics. My educational goals are deeply rooted in my desire to bridge the gap between science and practical application. I want to empower individuals, particularly those in underserved communities, with the knowledge and tools to take control of their health. Post-graduation, I see myself becoming a registered dietitian, specializing in clinical nutrition with a focus on metabolic health and chronic disease prevention. LGBTQ+ Wellness in Action Scholarship
As a lesbian student, prioritizing my mental and physical wellness is not just important—it's essential. For me, mental and physical health are intertwined aspects of overall well-being that significantly impact my ability to thrive academically, socially, and personally. Understanding and addressing the unique challenges I face in maintaining good health is crucial for my success and happiness. First and foremost, mental wellness holds immense significance in my life as a lesbian student. Navigating societal expectations, stereotypes, and discrimination based on my sexual orientation can take a toll on my mental health. The LGBTQ+ community often faces stigma, prejudice, and marginalization, leading to increased rates of anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. As a result, prioritizing self-care practices such as therapy, mindfulness, and self-compassion is vital for maintaining my emotional well-being. Additionally, physical wellness plays a key role in supporting my overall health and resilience. Engaging in regular exercise, nutritious eating habits, and sufficient sleep are essential components of my self-care routine. However, as a lesbian student, I may encounter unique challenges in accessing healthcare and promoting physical wellness. Discrimination or lack of understanding from healthcare providers, limited access to LGBTQ+-friendly spaces, and fear of judgment or harassment can create barriers to seeking medical care and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits. As a student, balancing academic responsibilities with self-care can present significant challenges. The pressure to excel academically, manage extracurricular activities, and maintain social connections can sometimes overshadow the importance of prioritizing mental and physical health. Additionally, the stress of deadlines, exams, and coursework deadlines can exacerbate existing mental health issues and lead to burnout or exhaustion. Moreover, as a lesbian student, I may face additional stressors related to my identity, such as coming out to peers, navigating relationships, or dealing with discrimination. These factors can contribute to feelings of isolation, anxiety, or low self-esteem, further impacting my mental and physical well-being. Despite these challenges, I am committed to taking proactive steps to prioritize my mental and physical health as a lesbian student. Seeking support from LGBTQ+-affirming communities, cultivating healthy coping mechanisms, and practicing self-compassion are essential strategies for navigating the unique challenges I encounter. Additionally, advocating for LGBTQ+-inclusive healthcare policies and resources on campus can help address systemic barriers to wellness for students like myself. In conclusion, as a lesbian student, prioritizing mental and physical wellness is paramount for my overall well-being and success. By acknowledging the challenges I face and taking proactive steps to address them, I am committed to fostering a healthy and supportive environment for myself and others in the LGBTQ+ community. Through self-care, advocacy, and resilience, I am determined to thrive academically, emotionally, and physically as a lesbian student.

Every summer, my family gathers at my grandparents' house for a reunion, a tradition that has been upheld for as long as I can remember. Amidst the laughter and chatter, there's always a quiet moment when my grandpa, a retired Navy veteran, gathers us around to share stories from his time in the service. One particular story stands out in my mind, a tale of resilience and camaraderie that exemplifies the spirit of the military. It was during Grandpa's deployment overseas, far from home and facing uncertain circumstances. He recounted the challenges of being stationed in a foreign land, away from loved ones and familiar comforts. But amidst the hardships, Grandpa found solace in the bonds forged with his fellow servicemen. He spoke of the late-night conversations in the barracks, the shared meals cooked over makeshift stoves, and the moments of laughter that broke through the monotony of military life. In one instance, Grandpa recalled a particularly difficult mission that tested the resolve of his unit. As they navigated treacherous terrain under enemy fire, each member relied on the others for support and guidance. It was a testament to the strength of their camaraderie and the unwavering determination to accomplish their mission, no matter the odds. But amidst the intensity of combat, there were moments of levity that offered brief reprieves from the harsh realities of war. Grandpa shared a story of a makeshift talent show organized by his unit, where soldiers showcased their hidden talents and entertained their comrades with impromptu performances. In that moment, surrounded by fellow servicemen who had become like family, Grandpa found a sense of belonging and purpose that transcended the challenges of military life. It was a reminder that even in the darkest of times, the bonds of friendship and camaraderie could light the way forward. Grandpa's stories not only offered a glimpse into his experiences but also served as a source of inspiration for me. Growing up, I was captivated by his tales of adventure and heroism, and I knew from a young age that I wanted to follow in his footsteps. In 2012, I made the decision to enlist in the United States Navy, inspired by Grandpa's legacy of service and sacrifice. Joining the military was a deeply personal choice, driven by a desire to honor my family's tradition of service and contribute to something greater than myself. As I embarked on my own military journey, I carried with me the lessons imparted by Grandpa — the importance of resilience, camaraderie, and perseverance in the face of adversity. His stories continue to guide me as I navigate the challenges and opportunities of military life, instilling in me a profound sense of duty and pride in serving my country.
