My name is Ché Herschel Womack Jr. I’m currently a transfer student from the Air Force Academy who is now attending Johnson County Community College (KS) and will be continuing to Cypress Community College (Cypress, CA) until I transfer into a 4-year school ]. I’m a former Division 1 Football Athlete (Offensive Lineman - Air Force Academy) and an Active Duty Service Member (U.S. Air Force). During my time at the Academy, I grew experience in supervising and managerial roles. I’ve carried duty titles such as ‘Squadron Director of Operations’ and ‘Flight Non-Commissioned Officer.’ In these positions, I have supervised as many as 100 individuals, who reported directly to me, and as few as 10 individuals. I also spent 4 years as the Total Production Group (TPG) Warehouse Supervisor. I endeavor to graduate from the University of Kansas with a B.A. in Political Science, and immediately go to graduate school for Public Policy. Immediately following graduate school, I want to get my Law Degree--focusing on Political Law. I endeavor, eventually, to run for office in my home state of California. In the meantime, I am looking for opportunities that will get me to grow my network, where I can work with people of all races, religions, creeds, ethnicities, etc.

Lauren Czebatul Scholarship
Volunteering has given me the opportunity to take a step away from my own problems and realize that there is always someone or a group of people whose lives need much more support than mine.
In high school, I was the lead logistics director for my community outreach program and in one volunteering instance, I realized the importance that volunteering served in my life.
In Los Angeles--the county my school resided in--there is an area identified as Skid Row. Skid Row is a community of individuals who struggle with homelessness, and oftentimes, drugs, mental health, and much more. As the lead logistics director, I thought it'd be a good idea to find a way to volunteer and contribute to that community.
However, there were many safety concerns that my school president brought up: the potentiality of one of our students getting harmed, shot, etc. However, I thought of the fantastic things I recognize have happened in our country. Whether that be Dr. King marching through the south for the rights of African-Americans, Susan B. Anthony advocating and fighting for the rights of all American women, or the sacrifices made by our American brothers and sisters--in uniform--who fight and protect our freedoms every day. All did not do or do not do, what they did/do because it was safe or easy, but because it was necessary.
Therefore, I debated the president with these facts, volunteering is not about doing things that are safe or easy but are necessary for the betterment of communities who are not able to better themselves, alone. With that, I got approval for a free food handout, and volunteering opportunity, at Skid Row.
Unfortunately, another issue arose when the logistics were finally worked out. No one wanted to go. I had 1 other volunteer, other than myself, who was willing to take up this opportunity. Again, I looked back to the incredible overcomings throughout our history; I thought of Harriet Tubman who made lonely trips to the South to recover the enslaved--she did it alone.
So, I and the other young man who volunteered went it alone. For an entire day, we prepared, cooked, and handed out food, alone, to people who struggled with homelessness at Skid Row, and might I say, it was the most rewarding experience.
I got the opportunity to speak to hundreds of people, who gave me their testimonies of what it means to struggle with homelessness, mental health, drugs, etc. In return, I gave them a free meal. I believe both parties enjoyed the conversations most of all. People from all faiths, religions, creeds, nationalities, and races came together and broke bread. Not because of our differences, but the one thing that unites us all: we are all human and we all live on this planet.
This opportunity also made me realize that at the moment, nothing else mattered. I did not see color, creed, nationality, religion, creed. Instead, I saw people who bonded over the same struggle.
Beforehand, I saw those people as people in need, but that experience taught me something: I envied their bond. At the time, I struggled with mental health and had no community to lean back on, but they did. Where they struggled, they grew stronger with love.
I come from a low-income community and do not have the immediate funds to pay for my undergraduate education, but this experience gave me an aspiration. I want to tackle the national mental health crises, and homelessness crises, and aid those who cannot aid themselves. I will do so by running for political office after my master's degree.
Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
As an African-American male growing up in a rough neighborhood in Long Beach, California, mental health was not something that was commonly discussed or addressed. It was seen as a sign of weakness to seek help or admit that you were struggling. Despite this cultural stigma, I knew that something was not right with me. I had a constant feeling of sadness, anxiety, and despair, and I couldn't shake it off no matter how hard I tried.
It wasn't until my sophomore year of high school that I attempted suicide. I remember feeling like I had hit rock bottom like there was no way out. Fortunately, I survived, and it was then that I realized that I needed help. I started seeing a therapist and taking medication, and slowly but surely, I began to feel like myself again.
My experience with mental health has greatly influenced my beliefs. I now firmly believe that mental health is just as important as physical health and that seeking help when you need it is a sign of strength, not weakness. I am also a strong advocate for mental health awareness, and I try to share my story whenever I can in the hopes of helping others who may be struggling.
My relationships have also been influenced by my experience with mental health. I have learned the importance of having a support system, and I am grateful for the people in my life who have been there for me through the ups and downs. I am also more understanding and empathetic towards others who may be struggling with mental health issues, and I try to be there for them in any way that I can.
My career aspirations have also been shaped by my experience with mental health. After going through therapy and seeing the impact that mental health professionals can have, I became interested in pursuing a career in mental health. I want to help others who may be struggling in the same way that I did, and I want to be a source of hope and inspiration for those who may feel like there is no way out.
In pursuing this career path, I have encountered some obstacles. As an African-American male, there are not many people who look like me in the mental health field, and there are also many systemic barriers that make it difficult for people in underrepresented communities to access mental health care. However, I am determined to overcome these obstacles and make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
But, where has this taken me? I endeavor to be a congressman for my district in Long Beach. I plan to tackle the mental health crises that plans my district. However, my aspirations do not stop there. After implementing policies that will make mental health outlets more affordable, I will run as a senator in the state of California, and make mental health outlets--nationwide--more affordable.
The fact is, I am a veteran, mental health activist, and an American. So, it would be naive of me to think that myself and my community are the only groups that deal with the struggle of a healthy mental state. My generation, Gen-Z, is more likely to commit suicide, my sex--males--are more likely to commit suicide, 76% of suicides are male; my brothers and sisters, in arms, have the highest suicide rates ever recorded in history. One of the only ways to truly deal with the issue is to take office and implement such policies that will address mental health issues directly. That is what I will do, that will my contribution to the world.
In conclusion, my experience with mental health has been a defining moment in my life. It has influenced my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations in profound ways, and has given me a sense of purpose and direction. I hope that by sharing my story, I can inspire others to seek help when they need it and to become advocates for mental health awareness.

Trever David Clark Memorial Scholarship
I first want to acknowledge my empathy for Trevor Clark's family, friends, and all of those whom he touched. Wherever he is now, I am certain he is spreading joy among those surrounded by him.
I once knew mental health as a barrier that discontinued and/or suspended various aspects of my life. I was once known as a boy who spread joy to my community, through sports, love, and a fashion of personal conviction of pure happiness. However, I too dealt with my senior year of high school being stripped away due to Covid-19... and my life would take a very sharp turn.
Pre-Covid was amazing; I was a varsity letterman in football, my high school's senior class vice-president, and a leading logistics contributor to my high school's community outreach program, and I partied like a rockstar--I was a person who centered his energy on being around those who I loved and loved me. However, when covid hit, my home state--California--took serious precautions to help extinguish the covid health issues within the state. And with that, my high school experience vanquished faster than I could ever expect. I went from walking to school every day, surrounded by those who loved me, my friends, to being cooped up in my room 24 hours a day, not being able to see another face.
With that experience, I saw that happy individual ready to conquer the world, turn into an individual who did not want to wake up in the morning. There grew a monster inside my head that told me I was worthless, nobody cared for me, and that I would not be successful. That monster aided me to stop answering phone calls, stop answering texts, and find ways to abuse substances. That monster told me everyone was better off without me and that I did not deserve to live.
Soon after, that monster and its persistence started to take action; I began giving valuable items away to my friends and family, as I prepared to depart this world with people having some memories of me. Whether clothes, trophies, or anything else I accumulated, I made sure I left some mark on this world.
What I did not realize, at the time, was that the little monster was so wrong. The people who knew me started to notice, question, and concern themselves with my actions. I often ignored messages from people who were attempting to remind me that they loved me, and cared for me. I started to receive gift baskets in my mailbox that, at the time, I thought were offerings of sympathy and not love. This all came from that monster inside my head.
I think it is very interesting the statistics that involve my generation and my sex. Many people do not realize that 84 men a week take their own lives and that 75% of all suicides are male, and that men are much less likely to get help for their mental health issues.
So, where does this anecdote come to a head? Well, the answers are my aspirations. I am currently a student at the University of Kansas majoring in political science with a focus on public policy. My goal? To run for political office and give light to the truths that surround mental health issues in the United States. When I am in the office, I will help any and everyone who struggles with mental health.
Therefore, individuals like Trever, or many friends I have lost to suicide are not lost in vain. So that we extinguish mental health issues forever.
Harry & Mary Sheaffer Scholarship
As a homeless high school student, I learned the importance of empathy and understanding firsthand. I experienced the harsh reality of homelessness and saw how it can strip away a person's dignity and self-worth. This experience has instilled in me a deep sense of compassion for those who are marginalized or struggling.
As I pursue my goal of becoming a senator in California, I am committed to using my unique talents and skills to build a more empathetic and understanding global community. One of my main areas of focus will be the veteran mental health crisis. As a volunteer at the VA hospital, I have seen firsthand the toll that military service can take on the mental health of veterans. I believe that we must support those who have served our country, and ensure that they receive the care and treatment they need to heal.
Another area of focus for me will be diversity and inclusion efforts. As a person of African descent, I have experienced firsthand the discrimination and prejudice that can exist in our society. I believe that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their race, gender, or any other characteristic. As a senator, I will work to create policies and initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion, and that help to break down the barriers that prevent individuals from reaching their full potential.
Finally, I will continue to work on issues related to homelessness. As the community service lead logistics developer at St. John Bosco High School, I gained valuable experience in organizing and managing programs to support those in need. My favorite experience was feeding the homeless at Skid Row in Los Angeles. I saw firsthand the impact that a hot meal and a kind word can have on someone who is struggling to survive on the streets. I believe that everyone deserves access to necessities like food, shelter, and healthcare, and I will work to create policies that help to address these issues.
In all of these areas, I believe that empathy and understanding are crucial. We must learn to see the world through the eyes of others and to understand the unique challenges and struggles that they face. I will use my unique talents and skills to help build a more compassionate and caring global community, one that is focused on supporting and uplifting all individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Eduardo Uvaldo Memorial Scholarship
Losing a loved one is one of the most difficult things anyone can experience. For me, that loved one was my Aunt Stacy. She was more than just an aunt to me - she was my second mother. She was always there for me, teaching me how to love, how to grieve, and how to treat women. When she passed away, my world was turned upside down, and I had to find a way to manage my grief while also juggling my school workload.
At first, I didn't know how to cope with my aunt's death. I felt lost, confused, and overwhelmed with emotions. I tried to distract myself by throwing myself into my schoolwork, but that only made things worse. I found it difficult to concentrate and stay focused, and my grades began to suffer. I knew I needed to find a way to manage my grief if I was going to be able to succeed in school.
One of the ways I managed my grief was by talking about it with others. I found it helpful to talk to my friends and family about my aunt, to share memories and stories, and to just express how I was feeling. It helped me to feel less alone and to process my emotions healthily.
Another way I managed my grief was by taking care of myself. I made sure to eat healthily, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep. I also found it helpful to engage in activities that brought me joy and relaxation, such as playing music, reading, or spending time outdoors. These activities helped me to feel more balanced and centered, even amid my grief.
Perhaps the most important thing I did to manage my grief was to honor my aunt's memory. I did this by continuing to live my life in a way that would have made her proud. I worked hard in school, pursued my passions, and treated others with kindness and respect. In doing so, I felt like I was keeping her spirit alive and honoring the impact she had on my life.
Juggling my school workload while managing my grief was not easy, but it was necessary. I had to find a way to balance my academic responsibilities with my emotional needs. One way I did this was by setting boundaries. I made sure to schedule time each day to focus on my schoolwork, but I also made sure to schedule time for self-care and grief management. This helped me to maintain a sense of balance and prevented me from becoming overwhelmed.
Another way I managed my grief while juggling my school workload was by seeking support from my teachers and advisors. I was honest with them about what I was going through, and they were incredibly supportive and understanding. They worked with me to create a plan for managing my workload and offered me resources and support when I needed it.
I found it helpful to remind myself that grief is a process. It's not something that can be neatly tied up and put away, and it's not something that has a specific timeline. It's something that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, and that's okay. By accepting this and permitting myself to grieve in my way and on my timeline, I was able to find a sense of peace and acceptance.
While I still miss her every day, I know that she would be proud of the person I've become and the life I'm living.
SmartAsset College SmartStart Personal Finance Scholarship
As an African American male who has experienced homelessness, I know firsthand the importance of financial stability and planning. Growing up, my family did not have much, and I learned the value of a dollar at a young age. The best piece of financial advice I have received came from my grandmother, who always said, "Save for a rainy day."
At the time, I did not fully understand the meaning behind her words. However, as I grew older and faced financial challenges, her advice became increasingly relevant. In today's world, where financial uncertainty and economic instability are common, her advice is more important than ever.
"Save for a rainy day" means that you should always be prepared for unexpected events or emergencies. Whether it's losing your job, a medical emergency, or a sudden expense, having savings can provide a safety net and protect you from financial hardship.
The reason my grandmother's advice is the best financial advice I have received is that it promotes long-term financial planning and responsible financial practices. Saving money is a habit that must be developed over time, and it requires discipline and sacrifice. By setting aside a portion of your income each month, you can gradually build a nest egg that can be used to cover unexpected expenses or achieve long-term financial goals.
Saving for a rainy day also means living within your means and avoiding debt. It's easy to fall into the trap of overspending or taking on too much debt, but these practices can quickly lead to financial ruin. By living below your means and avoiding unnecessary expenses, you can free up money to save for the future.
Another reason why my grandmother's advice is so valuable is that it promotes financial independence and empowerment. Having savings and financial security gives you the freedom to make choices and pursue opportunities without being held back by financial constraints. It also gives you the ability to weather financial storms and bounce back from setbacks.
But what does it really mean to save for a rainy day? How do you know how much to save, and what should you do with your savings once you have them?
The first step in saving for a rainy day is to establish an emergency fund. This should be a separate account that is set aside for unexpected expenses or emergencies. Ideally, your emergency fund should contain at least three to six months' worth of living expenses. This may seem like a daunting amount, but remember that it is a long-term goal that can be achieved over time.
To build your emergency fund, start by setting aside a small amount of money each month. Even if it's just a few dollars, every little bit counts. Over time, you can gradually increase the amount you save until you reach your goal.
Once you have established your emergency fund, the next step is to think about your long-term financial goals. This could include saving for retirement, buying a house, or paying off debt. Whatever your goals may be, it's important to have a plan in place for achieving them.
One strategy for achieving long-term financial goals is to automate your savings. This means setting up automatic transfers from your checking account to your savings or investment accounts. By doing this, you can ensure that a portion of your income is set aside for your goals each month, without having to think about it.
Another strategy is to prioritize your goals and focus on one at a time. This could mean paying off high-interest debt before investing in the stock market or saving for a down payment on a house before contributing to your retirement account. By focusing on one goal at a time, you can make steady progress without feeling overwhelmed.
In addition to saving and investing, it's also important to be mindful of your spending habits. This means tracking your expenses and identifying areas where you can cut back. It could mean bringing your lunch to work instead of eating out, or canceling subscriptions or memberships that you don't use. By reducing unnecessary expenses, you can free up money to put towards your financial goals.
Of course, there are times when unexpected expenses arise that cannot be covered by an emergency fund alone. In these situations, it may be necessary to consider other options, such as borrowing from a family member or taking out a loan. However, it's important to approach these options with caution and only take on debt that you can realistically pay back.
My grandmother's advice to "save for a rainy day" has not only helped me navigate financial challenges but has also shaped my approach to money and financial planning. It has taught me the importance of discipline, sacrifice, and long-term thinking when it comes to managing my finances.
Furthermore, her advice has instilled in me a sense of responsibility to give back to my community and help others who may be facing financial difficulties. As a future senator, I plan to use my platform to advocate for policies that promote financial education, access to affordable housing, and resources for those experiencing homelessness.
I also hope to inspire others, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, to take control of their finances and pursue their goals with determination and resilience. Financial stability and empowerment are not just about money but also about self-esteem, self-worth, and the ability to make positive changes in our lives and the world around us.
In conclusion, the best piece of financial advice I have received is to "save for a rainy day." This simple yet powerful advice has helped me navigate financial challenges and has shaped my approach to money and financial planning. By establishing an emergency fund, focusing on long-term financial goals, and being mindful of spending habits, we can achieve financial stability, independence, and empowerment. I will carry my grandmother's words with me and use them as a guiding principle to make a positive impact on my local and global communities.
FLIK Hospitality Group’s Entrepreneurial Council Scholarship
As an African American male who has experienced homelessness, I understand the importance of creating a positive impact on both my local and global communities. Through my lens of public policy and advocacy, I aim to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing our society, including the veteran mental health crises, diversity and inclusion efforts, and homelessness.
One way I plan to create a positive environmental impact is through wellness initiatives. Mental health is a crucial aspect of wellness, and it is an issue that is often overlooked in our society. As a senator, I will advocate for increased funding for mental health programs, including those that specifically target veterans. I will also work to reduce the stigma associated with mental health and encourage individuals to seek the help they need. Additionally, I will promote healthy living by supporting initiatives that encourage physical activity and healthy eating. By promoting wellness, we can create a healthier and more sustainable environment for future generations.
Technology is another area where I believe I can make a positive impact. As a graduate of public policy, I understand the importance of innovation and how it can be used to improve people's lives. Through technology, we can create more efficient and sustainable systems, reducing our impact on the environment. As a senator, I will advocate for increased funding for technology research and development. I will also work to promote the use of renewable energy sources and encourage the adoption of green technologies by businesses and individuals.
Culinary innovation is another area where I believe I can make a difference. As the logistics developer for feeding the homeless at Skid Row, I understand the importance of providing healthy and nutritious meals to those in need. In the next five years, I plan to create a non-profit volunteer organization that will continue to feed the homeless at Skid Row in the most innovative way possible. By using innovative culinary techniques and sustainable food sources, we can provide healthy and nutritious meals while reducing our impact on the environment.
Finance is another area where I plan to create a positive impact. As a senator, I will work to promote financial literacy and encourage responsible financial practices. I will also advocate for policies that support sustainable investment practices, including those that promote green technology and renewable energy sources. By promoting responsible financial practices, we can create a more sustainable and equitable economy.
Hospitality is another area where I can make a difference. As the community service lead for St. John Bosco High School, I understand the importance of creating welcoming and inclusive environments. In the next five years, I plan to promote diversity and inclusion efforts in the hospitality industry. By promoting inclusive practices and creating welcoming environments, we can create a more sustainable and equitable society.
Marketing is another area where I plan to create a positive impact. As a senator, I will work to promote sustainable products and services through marketing initiatives. I will also advocate for policies that support sustainable marketing practices, including those that promote environmental conservation and social responsibility. By promoting sustainable products and services, we can create a more sustainable and equitable society.
My plan to create a positive environmental impact on my local and global communities over the next five years is multifaceted. Through my lens of wellness, technology, culinary innovation, finance, hospitality, and marketing, I aim to create a more sustainable and equitable society. By advocating for policies that promote sustainability, supporting innovative initiatives, and promoting inclusive practices, I believe that we can create a brighter future for generations to come.
Gladys Ruth Legacy “Service“ Memorial Scholarship
As an African American male who was homeless in high school, I know firsthand the struggles that many people face every day. This experience has made me appreciate the value of hard work, resilience, and perseverance. It has also taught me the importance of compassion and empathy towards others who are facing difficult situations.
One way that I leverage my uniqueness to make a difference in someone's life is by being a positive role model. I believe that the way we live our lives can inspire others, even when we are not aware of it. Whether it's through my actions or words, I strive to be a person who uplifts and empowers those around me.
For instance, when I was volunteering at Skid Row in Los Angeles, I never knew who was watching me, but I always made sure to give my best effort and treat everyone with kindness and respect. Even though I was not able to solve all of their problems, I was able to provide a moment of relief and comfort to those in need. My goal was not to be a savior, but to show that I cared and that I was there for them.
Another way that I leverage my uniqueness is by being a good listener. I believe that everyone has a story to tell, and that listening to those stories can be a powerful way to connect with others and make a positive impact. Whether it's a friend, a family member, or a stranger, I always try to listen with an open heart and mind. I also try to offer words of encouragement or support, whenever possible.
I have also found that my experiences as a homeless student have given me a unique perspective on the challenges facing many communities. This perspective has made me more aware of the ways in which policies and systems can sometimes fail to address the needs of the most vulnerable populations. As a future senator, I will use this perspective to inform my policies and work towards creating a more just and equitable society.
Finally, I believe that one of the most powerful ways to leverage my uniqueness is by being authentic and true to myself. By being honest about my struggles and my journey, I hope to inspire others to do the same. I believe that when we are authentic, we create space for others to be authentic as well. This can lead to deeper connections and more meaningful relationships.
In conclusion, I leverage my uniqueness by being a positive role model, a good listener, an advocate for the vulnerable, and by being authentic. I believe that by living my life in this way, I can make a positive impact on someone's life, even if I have no idea that they are watching.
Alma J. Grubbs Education Scholarship
I am passionate about education because it has been the key to unlocking many doors in my life. Growing up in poverty, I saw education as a way out of my circumstances. I was fortunate to have teachers who believed in me and invested in my future, just as they did when they surprised me with gifts for my younger brother during Christmas. Their actions showed me that teachers can make a profound impact on their students' lives, not just academically, but emotionally as well.
My teachers not only helped me achieve academic success, but they also supported me in navigating the challenges of life. They were mentors, role models, and confidants. They gave me the tools to succeed academically, but also the skills to navigate relationships and the world around me. Their investment in me not only shaped my beliefs and values but also fueled my desire to pay it forward.
As an educator, I plan to leave a lasting impact on my students by being a role model who fosters a love of learning, promotes critical thinking, and supports their personal growth. I believe in creating a safe and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and respected, regardless of their background or experiences.
I plan to utilize my personal experiences of overcoming adversity to connect with my students who may be going through similar challenges. I understand the importance of having a support system, and I aim to be that support for my students. My goal is to create a space where students feel comfortable sharing their struggles, and I can provide resources to help them navigate their obstacles.
Furthermore, I plan to go beyond teaching the curriculum and offer experiential learning opportunities that enhance students' understanding of the world around them. I want to bring in community members to share their stories and expertise and collaborate with local organizations to offer hands-on learning experiences.
Ultimately, my goal is to empower my students to become active and engaged members of their communities, to be advocates for change, and to inspire them to pursue their dreams, just as my teachers did for me. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed, and it is my responsibility to help them realize that potential. Education is not just about the transfer of knowledge, but also about developing relationships, building character, and creating opportunities for students to thrive.
Dema Dimbaya Humanitarianism and Disaster Relief Scholarship
As an African American male who was once homeless in high school, I know firsthand the struggles that come with poverty and lack of resources. Through my experiences, I have developed a strong desire to make a positive impact on the world and am committed to using my future career as a senator in California to do so. However, I also believe that immediate action can be taken to help those in need. This is what initially brought me to community service and disaster relief.
During my time as the community service lead logistics developer at St. John Bosco High School, I had the opportunity to organize and participate in a variety of community service projects. One of my favorite experiences was feeding the homeless at Skid Row in Los Angeles. This was a powerful and eye-opening experience for me, as it gave me a firsthand look at the struggles that homeless individuals face on a daily basis. It was also incredibly rewarding to be able to provide a hot meal and some basic necessities to those in need.
This experience inspired me to want to contribute more in the areas of community service and disaster relief. After earning my bachelor's and graduate degrees in public policy, my plan is to create a non-profit volunteer organization that continues to feed the homeless at Skid Row. This organization will also focus on disaster relief efforts in areas affected by natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, and wildfires. My goal is to provide immediate relief to those affected by disasters while also working to prevent future disasters through policy change and education.
I believe that community service and disaster relief are two areas where small actions can make a big difference. Even something as simple as providing a hot meal to someone who is hungry can have a profound impact on their life. Similarly, disaster relief efforts can help to alleviate immediate suffering and provide a sense of hope and support to those affected.
In terms of how I plan to contribute more in this area of life, I am committed to staying informed about the issues and seeking out opportunities to help. This may involve volunteering with existing organizations or starting my own non-profit. I also plan to use my future career as a senator to advocate for policies that prioritize disaster preparedness and relief efforts.
I believe that there is great value in community service and disaster relief, both for those in need and for those who provide the support. It is a way to connect with others and to make a positive impact on the world. It is also a reminder that we all have a role to play in creating a better future for ourselves and for future generations.
In conclusion, my experiences with community service and disaster relief have inspired me to want to contribute more in this area of life. I believe that small actions can make a big difference, and I am committed to finding ways to help those in need. Whether it's through volunteering with existing organizations or starting my own non-profit, I am dedicated to making a positive impact on the world. I am also committed to using my future career as a senator to advocate for policies that prioritize disaster preparedness and relief efforts.

As someone who has played chess for many years, I have learned that there is great value in patience and application. Chess is a game that requires strategy, focus, and perseverance. It teaches you to anticipate your opponent's moves and to think several steps ahead. This same approach can be applied to my career goals. As a senator, I will need to be patient and persistent in order to achieve my objectives. I will need to anticipate potential obstacles and have a strategy in place to overcome them.
In addition to patience and application, playing chess has also taught me the value of collaboration. Chess is a game that requires you to work with your opponent in order to reach a resolution. You must be willing to consider your opponent's perspective and work together to find a solution that is beneficial for both sides. This same collaborative approach can be applied to my career goals as a senator. I believe that it's important to work with others in order to achieve meaningful change. This means building coalitions, listening to different perspectives, and finding common ground.
Furthermore, playing chess has taught me the importance of being adaptable. In chess, your opponent may make unexpected moves that require you to adjust your strategy in real-time. The ability to adapt to changing circumstances is crucial to success in chess and in life. As a senator, I will need to be flexible and willing to adjust my approach as circumstances change. I understand that there may be unexpected obstacles and challenges, but I am committed to finding creative solutions and adapting to whatever comes my way.

However, I firmly believe that every obstacle presents an opportunity for growth and change. As I endeavor to become a senator in California, I am committed to using my experiences to make a positive impact on the world.
One of my top priorities will be addressing the veteran mental health crisis. Too many of our service members return home with physical and psychological wounds that are not adequately addressed. I plan to work with mental health organizations and the military to develop comprehensive solutions that prioritize mental health care for veterans. This will involve increasing funding for mental health services, as well as improving access to resources and support for veterans. I am committed to establishing veteran-specific mental health clinics and providing telemedicine services to ensure that veterans in remote areas have access to the care they need. Additionally, I will work to remove the stigma surrounding mental health issues in the military, and encourage service members to seek help when needed.
Another important issue that I am passionate about is promoting diversity and inclusion efforts. This is especially important in California, which is one of the most diverse states in the country. As a senator, I will work to ensure that diverse voices are represented in leadership positions and that everyone has a seat at the table. This will involve working with community leaders, businesses, and educational institutions to develop programs that promote diversity and inclusion. I plan to introduce legislation that will ensure that every Californian has an equal opportunity to succeed, regardless of their race, gender, or socioeconomic background.
Finally, I will work to address homelessness in California. Homelessness is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted approach. I plan to work with local governments and community organizations to develop solutions that address the root causes of homelessness, including poverty, mental illness, and addiction. This will involve increasing funding for affordable housing programs and mental health services, as well as working to reduce the cost of living in California. I am committed to finding innovative solutions to this crisis, and I will work tirelessly to ensure that every Californian has a safe and stable place to call home.
In conclusion, my experiences have shaped my vision for the future. As a senator in California, I am committed to using my platform to make a positive impact on the world. Whether it's improving access to mental health care for veterans, promoting diversity and inclusion efforts, or addressing homelessness, I am determined to create a brighter future for all Californians. I believe that with hard work, determination, and a commitment to progress, we can create a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

NE1 NE-Dream Scholarship
Imagine yourself standing on the edge of a cliff, gazing out at a vast ocean with no end in sight. That is where my journey began. As a young child, I had dreams that were bigger than myself, and I was determined to chase them relentlessly. Growing up, I faced countless obstacles that could have easily deterred me from my dreams. However, instead of giving up, I decided to use these experiences as fuel to keep pushing forward.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was being a first-generation student with limited financial resources. I was raised by a single mother who could not afford to send me to college, and I knew that my dreams of higher education were going to require a lot of hard work and determination. Despite these challenges, I was able to get accepted into a 4-year program.
I am currently working on graduating with a degree in political science and legal studies and a minor in Portuguese. But my dreams don't stop here. I wanted to make a positive impact on my community, particularly in the areas of education and social justice. So, I endeavor to earn a graduate degree in education policy with a focus on closing the achievement gap for marginalized students.
As I work towards my goal, I also became passionate about mental health awareness and advocacy, particularly for men of color. I learned about the staggering statistics surrounding mental illness in the African American community, and as someone who has personally struggled with depression and anxiety, it became even more important for me to use my voice to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
My dreams are not just about personal success, but also about making a difference in the lives of others. I want to become a leader in my community, someone who can help change the trajectory of someone's life and help them reach their full potential. I am passionate about creating a world where everyone has access to quality education, healthcare, and mental health resources, regardless of their socioeconomic status or background.
Every day, I wake up with a renewed sense of purpose and passion, knowing that my dreams are not just about myself, but also about the positive impact I can make on the world. I am inspired by the resilience of those who have faced adversity and come out stronger on the other side, and I am committed to being a part of that community of resilience and strength.
In the end, I am reminded of a quote by the great Nelson Mandela, who once said, "It always seems impossible until it's done." My dreams may seem daunting and impossible at times, but with hard work, determination, and a deep sense of passion, I know that I can achieve anything I set my mind to.
DeAmontay's Darkness Deliverance Scholarship
As an African American male who has endured homelessness, depression, anxiety, and hopelessness, I understand firsthand the challenges that can come with navigating mental health issues as a member of a marginalized community. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, African Americans are 20% more likely to experience mental health issues than their white counterparts, yet they are also less likely to seek treatment.
The statistics regarding mental health among African American men are particularly concerning. According to a study published in the Journal of Black Psychology, African American men are more likely to experience depression and anxiety than any other racial or ethnic group in the United States. Additionally, they are less likely to seek treatment and more likely to suffer from the long-term effects of untreated mental health issues.
Despite these statistics, I am proud to say that I have been able to overcome the adversity in my life and pursue my passions. As a high school student, I faced numerous challenges, including homelessness and the daily struggle to make ends meet. However, I refused to let these challenges define me or hold me back from achieving my goals.
Instead, I focused on my education and extracurricular activities, including sports and student government. These activities gave me a sense of purpose and helped me develop the skills and mindset needed to succeed in life. They also provided me with a support system of peers and mentors who believed in me and helped me stay motivated.
Over time, I also learned the importance of seeking help when I needed it. I started seeing a therapist and talking to friends and family about my struggles with depression and anxiety. These conversations were not always easy, but they helped me gain perspective and develop coping strategies that have served me well throughout my life.
Today, I am pursuing a career in public policy to become a congressman for my home district in Long Beach, CA. I am passionate about helping others and using my platform to create positive change in my community. Specifically, I want to focus on implementing policies that address veteran mental health illnesses, people who struggle with homelessness, and DEI policies that help minority groups afford secondary school and post-secondary education.
In pursuing this career path, I know that I will face challenges and setbacks along the way. However, I am confident that I have the skills, resilience, and determination needed to overcome these obstacles and make a meaningful impact in the world. I believe that my experiences with adversity and mental health issues have given me a unique perspective that will allow me to connect with and serve a diverse range of individuals in my community.
In conclusion, while mental health issues among African American men are a real and significant concern, I believe that with the right support, resources, and mindset, it is possible to overcome these challenges and pursue one's passions. Through education, therapy, and a supportive community, I have been able to overcome the adversity in my life and pursue my goals. And I am confident that I can continue to do so in the future, no matter what challenges may arise.

Andrew Perez Mental Illness/Suicidal Awareness Education Scholarship
As an African American who is part of Generation Z, I am passionate about raising awareness about mental health and breaking down the stigma surrounding mental illness. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), approximately 1 in 5 adults in the United States experience mental illness in a given year, and mental illness is the leading cause of disability worldwide. These statistics are even more concerning among African American youth, as research suggests that they are at a higher risk of experiencing mental health issues due to factors such as discrimination, racism, and poverty.
Personally, I have experienced mental health challenges throughout my life, including anxiety and depression. Coping with these challenges has been a journey, but I have learned the importance of self-care and seeking support when needed. This includes practicing mindfulness and meditation, maintaining a healthy lifestyle through exercise and proper nutrition, and connecting with others who have similar experiences.
One of my goals for the future is to become an advocate for mental health and to help others who are struggling with their mental health. I aspire to pursue a career in counseling or psychology and to work with marginalized communities, including African American youth, to provide support and resources for those who may not have access to adequate mental health care.
In addition to my passion for mental health advocacy, I am also passionate about the arts. As a musician and writer, I find that creative expression can be a powerful tool for coping with mental illness and promoting self-care. I hope to continue pursuing my artistic endeavors and to use my platform to raise awareness about mental health and inspire others to prioritize their own well-being.
Looking to the future, my aspirations include not only pursuing a career in mental health, but also continuing to learn and grow as a person. I hope to travel and experience new cultures, to deepen my connections with loved ones, and to continue making a positive impact in the world.
Ultimately, I believe that mental health should be a priority for everyone, and that by speaking openly about our experiences and advocating for better access to care, we can make a difference in the lives of those who are struggling. I am excited to see what the future holds, and I am committed to doing my part to promote mental health and well-being in myself and in others.
Ruthie Brown Scholarship
As an African American male who has faced numerous challenges throughout my life, including homelessness in high school, I understand the importance of financial stability and the burden that student loan debt can place on individuals and families. Therefore, I have been taking a proactive approach to address my current and future student loan debt.
One of the primary steps I have taken is to educate myself on the various options available for managing student loan debt. I have researched federal and private student loan programs, as well as alternative options such as income-driven repayment plans and loan forgiveness programs. By doing so, I am now better equipped to make informed decisions about my student loan repayment options.
In addition to exploring loan repayment options, I have been actively seeking out scholarships and grants to help reduce the overall amount of student loan debt I accumulate. I have spent countless hours researching and applying for various scholarship opportunities, including those specifically targeted towards African American students and those pursuing careers in technology and social impact. Though the process can be competitive and time-consuming, I am committed to seeking out as many opportunities as possible to reduce my debt burden.
Furthermore, I am considering other creative ways to lower my overall debt burden. For example, I am exploring the potential for refinancing my loans, which could help me secure a lower interest rate and reduce my monthly payments. Additionally, I am considering ways to increase my income, such as finding part-time work or freelance opportunities. By increasing my income, I will be able to allocate more resources towards paying down my student loan debt.
Another way I am working to address my student loan debt is by prioritizing my spending and living within my means. I am being mindful of my expenses and seeking out ways to cut back on unnecessary costs. For example, I have opted to cook at home more often, rather than eating out, and I am exploring more affordable options for housing and transportation. By prioritizing my spending in this way, I am able to allocate more resources towards my student loan payments.
Ultimately, I am committed to taking a multifaceted approach to managing my student loan debt. By exploring a variety of options, from scholarships to refinancing to increasing my income, I am confident that I can effectively manage my student loan debt while still pursuing my passions in the technology field. While the road ahead may not be easy, I am determined to do whatever it takes to achieve financial stability and independence, and to ensure that my student loan debt does not hold me back from pursuing my dreams
Justin Moeller Memorial Scholarship
As I sit here reflecting on my journey, I can't help but feel grateful for the opportunities I have had and the obstacles I have overcome. My story is not typical, but it has given me a unique perspective and a drive to make a positive impact on the world through the use of technology.
Growing up, I faced numerous challenges that made pursuing my passions seem impossible. Being homeless in high school was just one of them. However, I refused to let my circumstances define me, and instead, I used my struggles as a source of motivation to succeed. Through hard work and determination, I was able to graduate high school with a 3.85 GPA, Magna Cum Laude, and even served as the student body vice president.
My love for sports was another factor that kept me going during those challenging times. I was a first-team all-state football player and a varsity letterman for basketball. But while sports provided a temporary escape, it was technology that truly captured my interest and my heart.
What draws me to the technology field is its potential to create positive change. I firmly believe that technology has the power to address many of the challenges facing society today, such as economic inequality and environmental sustainability. Having experienced firsthand the impact of these challenges, I am eager to explore how technology can be leveraged to create solutions.
During my time in high school, I had the opportunity to explore the technology field through the Robotics Club. As a member, I learned basic programming skills and worked on a team to build a robot for a statewide competition. This experience not only taught me about the technical side of robotics, but also about the importance of teamwork and communication in achieving a common goal.
More recently, I have been involved in a nonprofit organization that provides affordable technology solutions to underserved communities. Through this organization, I have been able to work on several projects, including setting up computer labs in schools and community centers, and providing tech training to individuals who may not have had access to these resources otherwise. This work has allowed me to see firsthand the impact that technology can have on individuals and communities, and has further fueled my passion for the field.
Looking to the future, I am excited to continue exploring the technology field and its potential for positive impact. I plan to pursue a degree in computer science or a related field, with the goal of eventually using my skills to create technology solutions that address social issues. While my journey may not have been traditional, I am grateful for the experiences that have led me to this path, and I am eager to see where it takes me next.
Theresa Lord Future Leader Scholarship
Growing up, my mother instilled in me the importance of education and hard work. Despite the obstacles we faced, she always encouraged me to focus on my education and strive for excellence. Her unwavering support and guidance helped me to overcome the challenges of homelessness and achieve academic success.
Although I faced numerous challenges during high school, one obstacle that stands out in my mind is the constant struggle to stay motivated and focused while living in unstable housing situations. With each move to a new family member's home, I had to adjust to new surroundings, new schedules, and new rules. It was difficult to find a quiet and comfortable space to study, and I often found myself distracted by the chaos of my surroundings. Additionally, the stress of our living situation often took a toll on my mental health, making it even harder to stay motivated.
However, I learned a valuable lesson from this experience. I learned that success is not always about having the most ideal circumstances, but about persevering through challenges and finding ways to adapt to new situations. I learned that sometimes, success is simply about showing up and putting in the work, even when it feels like the odds are stacked against you.
Despite the obstacles I faced, I never lost sight of my goals. I knew that education was my ticket to a better life, not just for myself, but for my family and my community. My ultimate goal is to earn a bachelor's degree in political science and a graduate's degree in public policy, with the aim of becoming a senator in the state of Colorado. I am determined to use my platform to advocate for economic equity among minority communities and better mental health services in Colorado.
My educational journey has been a challenging one, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. With the support of my mother and the guidance of mentors and educators, I have been able to overcome adversity and achieve academic success. I am proud to be a first-generation college student, and I am motivated to continue pushing myself to be the best that I can be.
In conclusion, the obstacles I faced during high school taught me the importance of perseverance and resilience. I learned that success is not just about having the ideal circumstances, but about finding ways to adapt to new situations and push through challenges. My educational goals are a reflection of my commitment to making a difference in the world and using my platform to advocate for change.
Novitas Diverse Voices Scholarship
Imagine walking into a room where every person looks, thinks, and talks like you. How do you think that would make you feel? Comfortable? Sure. Confident? Maybe. Challenged? Probably not.
Now, imagine walking into a room where everyone is different from you. People with different experiences, cultures, and perspectives. How would that make you feel? Uncomfortable? Perhaps. Curious? Likely. Challenged? Absolutely.
That’s the power of diverse voices in public relations. It’s not about making people feel uncomfortable, but rather about challenging their thinking and broadening their perspectives. When we bring people from different backgrounds and experiences together, we create a space where new ideas can thrive, and public narratives can be shaped more inclusively and accurately.
Statistics show that diversity in public relations can have a significant impact on the success of campaigns and initiatives. A 2020 study by the PRCA found that diverse teams were more likely to produce innovative and creative work than non-diverse teams. Another study by the Institute for Public Relations found that companies with diverse boards of directors had higher financial returns than those without.
But diversity in public relations is not just about statistics and financial success. It’s about creating a more just and equitable society. Public relations plays a critical role in shaping public narratives and opinions. When we have a diverse range of voices shaping those narratives, we can challenge harmful stereotypes, break down barriers, and create a more inclusive society.
For example, let’s say a company wants to launch a new product aimed at the African American community. If the entire PR team is made up of non-African Americans, they may unintentionally perpetuate harmful stereotypes or miss the mark on cultural nuances. However, if the team includes African Americans, they can provide valuable insights and help shape a more authentic and effective campaign.
Another example is the Black Lives Matter movement. The movement gained momentum and support because people from all walks of life came together to demand justice and equality for the black community. Without the diverse voices of different races, ethnicities, and backgrounds, the movement would not have been as impactful or successful.
In conclusion, the power of diverse voices in public relations cannot be overstated. It’s not just about improving statistics or financial success, but about creating a more just and equitable society. When we bring people from different backgrounds and experiences together, we create a space where new ideas can thrive, and public narratives can be shaped more inclusively and accurately. The more we embrace diversity in public relations, the more we can challenge harmful stereotypes, break down barriers, and create a better world for all.
Humanize LLC Gives In Honor of Shirley Kelley Scholarship
Growing up in a single-parent household was not easy, and being homeless made it even more challenging. But through it all, my mother was my rock and my biggest supporter. She taught me the importance of education, hard work, and determination, and these values have stayed with me throughout my life.
My mother's resilience in the face of adversity was an inspiration to me. Despite the challenges we faced, she never gave up on her dreams of providing a better life for us. She worked long hours at a low-paying job to put food on the table and a roof over our heads. Her sacrifices were not lost on me, and I knew that I had to make the most of every opportunity that came my way.
Growing up with my mother also taught me the importance of diversity and inclusion. She taught me to respect and appreciate people from all walks of life, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. This lesson has been invaluable in my personal and professional life and has helped me become a better leader and advocate for marginalized communities.
My experience of being homeless and living with different family members also gave me a unique perspective on the world. I saw firsthand how difficult life could be for those who lacked resources and support. This experience motivated me to become an advocate for social justice and change, and it influenced my decision to pursue a career in politics.
My future goals are to become a senator in the state of California and to use my platform to promote policies that address economic inequality, racial and social justice, and mental health. I want to create a more equitable society where everyone has access to the resources and support they need to succeed.
I believe that my experience of being raised in a single-parent household and being homeless has prepared me for the challenges of politics. I know what it means to fight for what you believe in, to persevere in the face of adversity, and to never give up on your dreams. I also know the importance of listening to and representing the voices of all communities, particularly those that have been historically marginalized and oppressed.
In conclusion, my upbringing has shaped me into the person I am today, and I am proud of the resilience and determination that I have developed. My mother's sacrifices and teachings have instilled in me the values of hard work, education, and diversity, and I am committed to using these values to make a positive difference in the world. As I pursue my goals of becoming a senator and promoting social justice, I will never forget where I came from and the lessons I learned along the way.

If I had to choose one book that I wish everyone in the world could read, it would be "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl. This book is a powerful memoir and an insightful exploration of human psychology and spirituality.
The book is divided into two parts. The first part describes Frankl's experience in Nazi concentration camps during World War II. He talks about the physical and emotional suffering he endured and how he was able to find meaning in his life even in the most horrific circumstances. The second part of the book outlines Frankl's theory of logotherapy, a form of psychotherapy that focuses on finding meaning and purpose in life.
Frankl's book is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. His experience in the concentration camps showed that even in the darkest of situations, there is a part of us that is free and cannot be taken away. He believed that meaning and purpose were fundamental to human existence and that even in the face of adversity, we can find meaning in our lives.
The book is a profound reminder that we all have the ability to choose how we respond to life's challenges. It challenges us to take responsibility for our lives and to find meaning in our experiences, even the most difficult ones. It teaches us that happiness is not something that can be pursued directly, but rather a byproduct of living a meaningful life.
In a world that is often characterized by chaos, suffering, and uncertainty, "Man's Search for Meaning" offers a message of hope and inspiration. It encourages us to find purpose in our lives and to create meaning out of our struggles. It is a book that has the power to change lives and transform the way we see the world.
In conclusion, if I could have everyone in the world read just one book, it would be "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl. This book is a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit and a reminder that even in the darkest of situations, we can find meaning and purpose in our lives.
