Serving the elderly isn’t just my career, it’s my calling. After 16 years in assisted living, I’ve seen firsthand how emotional well-being is often overlooked in aging populations. That’s why I’m committed to making a difference through geriatric mental health care.
I’ve taken an active role in improving elder care, from training new caregivers on patient interactions to facilitating virtual calls during the pandemic to keep residents connected with their families. These experiences have strengthened my passion for advocacy and mental health support for seniors.
I’m currently pursuing a B.A. in Human Services with a concentration in Gerontology while working full-time. As a first-generation college student and single mother, balancing financial responsibilities with my education is challenging. A scholarship would help me continue my studies without taking on additional student debt, keeping me on track toward my goal of becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) specializing in geriatric mental health.
My journey has instilled in me resilience, empathy, and a deep commitment to service, qualities I will carry into my career and beyond.

The F.O.O. Scholarship
As a first-generation college student and a Pell Grant recipient, my journey through higher education is driven by a desire to achieve personal success and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Education represents a pathway to fulfilling my dreams of helping vulnerable populations, particularly the elderly, through compassionate and effective human services.
After working for four years as a resident relations representative at an assisted living facility, I’ve witnessed the profound impact of social connections on mental health and overall well-being. One of my most rewarding experiences was helping a grieving resident find new companionship, reinforcing my commitment to serving others. This work has inspired me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services with a concentration in Gerontology, focusing on mental health and social engagement for the elderly.
While the road has been challenging—balancing work, studies, and family life—I have remained steadfast in my commitment to personal growth and community impact. Receiving a Pell Grant has eased some of the financial burden, allowing me to focus on my education and career goals. This scholarship would further enable me to continue my studies without interruption, paving the way for me to create programs and initiatives that improve the quality of life for older adults.
Personally, this opportunity would demonstrate to my daughter that hard work and resilience can lead to transformative outcomes. Professionally, it would equip me with the knowledge and skills needed to effect meaningful change in my field.
I am deeply grateful for the chance to pursue my aspirations and eager to use my education to uplift others, honoring the support that has helped me along the way.

I am committed to addressing these issues through both my professional work and my educational journey.
Being a non-traditional student comes with its own set of sacrifices and adjustments. Balancing full-time work, parenting, and academic responsibilities requires careful time management and resilience. As a single mother, I have had to prioritize my education and career goals while ensuring that my daughter feels supported and loved. Weekends and evenings often involve studying or completing assignments, leaving little room for personal leisure. Despite these challenges, the pride I feel in my accomplishments and the example I set for my daughter make these sacrifices worthwhile. Seeing her recognize the importance of hard work and determination is a constant reminder of why this journey is so important.

Organic Formula Shop Single Parent Scholarship
Pursuing my degree in Human Services with a concentration in Gerontology is more than an academic goal—it is a mission rooted in my passion for serving the elderly. For the past four years, I have worked full-time as a Resident Relations Representative at an assisted living facility. I assist residents with various needs that become challenging with age, such as managing low vision or dealing with writing difficulties caused by arthritis. Witnessing their struggles and the profound impact even small acts of assistance can have on their quality of life drives my commitment to completing my education. My ultimate goal is to become a licensed counselor specializing in serving the elderly and addressing the unique emotional and psychological challenges that come with aging.
The financial aspect of balancing work, school, and parenthood can be daunting. Despite working full-time, I have an out-of-pocket portion of tuition costs even after financial aid is applied. Securing a scholarship would significantly alleviate this burden, providing me with the means to better support my daughter or save for unforeseen expenses. This financial relief would not only enhance my ability to focus on my studies but also enable me to create more opportunities for quality time with my daughter.
As a single parent, finding the balance between school, work, and parenting is one of my greatest challenges. My daughter is my world, and I prioritize setting aside quality time for her despite my busy schedule. Every evening, we enjoy a special moment before bedtime, and on Sundays, we plan fun outings together. Her current favorite activity is visiting the Cat Cafe, where she delights in playing with adoptable cats. These moments of connection strengthen our bond and remind me why I am pursuing this path—to build a better future for both of us.
My aspirations extend beyond personal achievement. I envision a career where I can use my education to address the mental health challenges many elderly individuals face, such as depression and loneliness caused by declining vision or cognitive abilities. By providing compassionate counseling and tailored support, I hope to help them navigate the complexities of aging with dignity and resilience. This work is a professional goal and a deeply personal calling.
Earning this scholarship would have a profound impact on my family. It would provide the financial flexibility to invest in my daughter’s happiness and well-being while enabling me to focus on my education and career aspirations. By reducing financial stress, I could dedicate more energy to excelling in my studies and achieving my dream of becoming a licensed counselor. More importantly, it would bring me closer to making a lasting difference in the lives of elderly individuals who deserve the best care and support during their later years.
Completing my degree is more than a milestone, it is a step toward creating a brighter future for my daughter, myself, and the community I am passionate about serving. With the support of this scholarship, I will continue to work tirelessly toward this vision, motivated by my love for my daughter and my commitment to improving the lives of the elderly.
