How the Black Lives Matter Movement/True Social Justice has changed my life. NOT ONLY THE CHANGE WE NEEDED BUT OUR GENERATION HAS STARTED
I was first introduced to the BLM movement when I was 21 years old and the world weeped as George Floyd was put to rest. Being sheltered in my own little world, I had no idea how much my life would change because of that. With a heavy heart, I joined my friends in peaceful protesting. I knew systemic racism was the root of the problem and I knew it had to be abolished. There was so much anger inside of me that BLM extinguished. I finally saw a movement of bright young individuals who would go to the edges of the world to fight for what’s right!
Along with three incredible individuals from my life, I started an organization myself. It’s called Change For Real, to indicate that not only are we fed up with the same system that is outdated and discriminatory but also that we are the generation to make it happen and we will stick to our word. My intentions with this organization is fully to remove any hatred in the hearts of those who cause pain! To stop this nonsense on the news everyday and provide a better future for generations to come. There is a belief system in place that the children, and the youth are to stand up for what they believe is right. No matter based on their correct education. To see the correct education provided by non-bias teachers who strive to teach the whole truth. Since the youth is our future, that’s what matters most. If they can lead the tough conversations at home, then take it out of the classroom and home into society then we’ve done a great job or even through events throughout the community.
I led the Change 4 Real team in fundraising goals, protests, & interviews. - reaching out to diverse audiences across the country to support their dream and used the opportunity to raise awareness of what it is like to be black in our community. I also improved my media talents while working with a professional PR agent of color from our hometown to amplify calls for change and nailed several interviews with the Chicago Tribune and local papers. We as a group also interviewed Dr. Peggy Griffin, who marched at Selma, at the original March, and worked for many years with Rev. Jesse Jackson. Dr. Griffin not only shared her personal stories but also civil engagement strategies to protect us if things got out of hand at the March.
We were apart of the Tens of thousands of peacemakers wanting to see racial justice and equality joined from all over the nation, with national leaders such as; Reverend Al Sharpton, Martin Luther King II, and the National Action Network. For the 57th anniversary of the March on Washington in late August 2020. During this time there was protests are where I led & organized the peaceful marches and was able to show the people the true problems within their own community and how we TOGETHER can change them. Many people spoke and shared their stories, opening the minds of the people around them.
Information about the protests below;
-Crown Point, Indiana Protest: -Led 100+ protesters along a 10 mile route peacefully past armed civilians. -Made national, international, and online news at outlets like the New York Times, TMZ, BuzzFeed, and the Chicago Tribune. - Police showed support by aiding us through
the course of our protest. - Shared my message with over 200 people in person. -Armed bystanders watch Floyd protesters march in Indiana
-Lowell, Indiana Protest - Over 100 protesters or ‘Peacemakers’ make history having a peaceful Movement within the town. - Lowell Peacemakers find common ground with armed civilians by the end of the Protest.

I am excited to attend a HBCU verses the Caucasian town/high school where I was the majority of my life. Excited as a first generation student, an adopted child to pursue a degree from a Historically Black College, will be a great thing to achieve since moving from the Midwest. I have been living in the area getting all the needed materials put together for this moment. Hello Hello! My name is Cedric Caschetta, a 21-year-old African American living in the
Nation’s Capitol here to make a difference. I came here last year inspired by the George Floyd protests I led in Indiana to immerse myself in black culture and leadership and to return to my studies at your wonderful university. You see, I am a far cry from home. I began this life as a foster child in Gary, Indiana. For the next five years of trials and tribulations, I was finally freed from being a ward of the state and landed a forever home with an amazing white family in Lowell, IndianaWe organized another march in Lowell and again were met with armed white supremacists. However, this time it was on a much bigger scale. Through the marches, I was connected to many people who wanted to make a change in Lowell for real to end racism. However, growing up in that sea of whiteness, I knew I needed to study up and learn from black leaders how to do this.
Along with three incredible individuals from my life, I started an organization myself. It’s called Change 4 Real, to indicate that not only are we fed up with the same system that is outdated and discriminatory but also that we are the generation to make it happen and we will stick to our word. My intentions with this organization are fully to remove any hatred in the hearts of those who cause pain! To stop this nonsense on the news every day and provide a better future for generations to come. To this day, I am still in contact with big organizations that are interested in increasing our outreach. It became my responsibility to lead the Change 4 Real organization in the fundraising, protest and interviewing aspect due to my experience in those fields - and was able to connect with my community and the country in ways I never thought possible. The events led me to not only visit our beautiful Capitol but inspired me to live there to continue to make change. In late August 2020, for the 57th anniversary of the March on Washington. When I left the march that day, I knew there was so much more work to be done. But I’m not stopping there, through my education I hope to actually have the tools to make a difference in the civil rights world. A difference that lasts, that makes waves and sets a precedence for laws to come.
With protests and interviews completed, new activist colleagues met, and a place where I would have liked to live; my plan to move to DC to continue my studies began! Since then, I have fallen in love with my new surroundings to see the motivated, continued work of how our district is getting work done from protests to keeping one another safe. I was driven by the hard work and culture. Upon my original visit, I also had a campus visit to Howard University to check out the beautiful facilities! I really enjoyed the atmosphere while I was there and I can easily say I’ll fit right in.
My goals at Howard are to grow my education first and foremost so that I can graduate with a Sociology degree and attend law school to become a Civil Law Lawyer. If possible, I would also like to play a part in furthering the football team's achievements. As mentioned before, I am more than dedicated to achieving excellence. I am more than ready to do what it takes to get me to the top. I am dedicated to lead the people around me to be the best version of themselves that they can be! I have learned firsthand that honest leadership molds great individuals.
All the work I have done and the risks I have taken so far have inspired me to continue with even more passion than I started with. As a former foster child and first-generation student, I am excited to attend an HBCU and learn from people who look like me — where I can show my talents not only for the NCAA but in the classroom as well. I’m excited about this new chapter in my life. Thank you for reading and taking the time to look over my application. Can't wait for your response! - Cedric Caschetta

This pervious September I have moved to S.W Washington to make my dreams into a reality! Yes it was a risk however, life never is lived unless you take some risks! I intend to graduate with a Sociology degree and attend Law school to become a Civil Law Lawyer. I'm excited to see a beautiful new atmosphere along with another chance to show my talents not only for the NCAA yet for the Mecca as well. I thank you for reading and taking the time to look over my submission ! Can’t wait for your response! - Cedric Caschetta

Hello Hello! My name is Cedric Caschetta, a 21 year old African American living in the Nation’s Capitol here to make a difference. It has been a crazy ride to get to this point, although I am ecstatic to be a prospect for your wonderful University. My life started in Gary, Indiana. I was a foster child looking for a forever home not knowing where my life would take me. Through years of trials and tribulations, I was no longer a ward of the state, on the other hand now a part of an amazing family in Lowell, Indiana, starting my new life with my forever family. Who, not only took me, as well my biological younger brother Cody. Lowell Indiana is a very old style conservative State which makes it hard for people to make a change or difference. From being racially profiled, bullied by classmates, to even standing up in a march past armed bystanders. As I grew older & older I tried daily to fight that narrative and make a new welcoming place in Indiana.
My goals, after realizing over the past summer that we are the generation of the future, and that we are obligated to fix the issues we face, has been through a couple different changes. Which is what I did, I fixed my grades, I paid a significant massive debt off entirely which the school had held my transcripts before releasing them. Upon paying the massive debt out of pocket, I then understood that my education is the foundation of my success. I got my act together and put the focus where focus was due. I have always had a great passion for football after getting introduced to it by my late grandfather at an early age. My goals at Howard University reflect that. As a previous college athlete, I know the consequences that comes from not following through with your words and doing your due diligence such as classwork, grades & the little things. At my previous University I let those ‘little’ things around me get the best of me. After self reflection, & looking in the mirror and find myself see what I truly wanting life.
I want to grow my education first and foremost. Also would like to be apart of furthering the football team's achievements. This pervious September I have moved to S.W Washington to make said dream into a reality! Yes it was a risk however, life never is lived unless you take some risks! I intend to graduate with a Sociology degree and attend Law school to become a Civil Law Lawyer. I am excited to attend a HBCU verses the Caucasian town/high school where I was the majority of my life. How the Black Lives Matter Movement/True Social Justice has changed my life. Where I found out who I wanted to be.
I was first introduced to the BLM movement when I was 21 years old and the world weeped as George Floyd was put to rest. As a adopted, first generation student I was sheltered in my own little world, I had no idea how much my life would change because of that.
