Hello! My name is Cathleen "Cate" DeVane and I am senior at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. I hope to pursue a degree in biomedical engineering with a concentration in tissue engineering, as well as a degree in Chinese language studies.
Beyond the distinctive twang of my small, agricultural town, I am known for the mantle of passion I carry into all facets of my life. Whether in the classroom, exploring the the local area with my friends, or volunteering with environmental groups--I love going all in.
I hope to apply my interests in medicine, engineering, and language (both verbal and otherwise) to new, unexplored frontiers by learning from individuals around the globe. I also hope to apply myself as an advocate for accessibility within all spheres of life. No matter our medium for communication, empathy paired with action holds the power to unite and uplift us all!
This past year, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. I know that by continuing my academic journey fearlessly, I fulfill her happiness and health. I dedicate myself to my mother and her fight--as well as thousands of other individuals impacted by cancer in my local communities and beyond.
