My name is Catarina Parenti, and I am a current first-generation college student at King's College. I am currently double majoring in Psychology (B.S.) and Neuroscience. I have been involved in orchestra and played the viola for 12 years now and am very passionate about art and design as well. I am currently involved in the psychology club, neuroscience club, Biology club, FIMRC (a club that aims to help and provide medical care to places around the world where there are little to no healthcare options), MIC (multicultural international club), as well as working in the theater at my school. I also work part-time as a pharmacy technician. I would also love to study abroad at some point to experience other cultures and learn in a new, challenging environment. I plan on going to medical school and becoming a Neurosurgeon or psychiatrist in the future. My main goal is to make a difference to kids and people like me, who have struggled or are struggling, and to save as many lives as I can.

Bold Loving Others Scholarship
WinnerThere is always an amount of uncertainty in love. The wonderful thing about having friends and family in life that you love and that love you is they always know you love them. That is what makes love true and real. However, when it comes to showing love, I allow my actions to speak louder than my words.
This does not mean that I never verbally express my love, but I show it in a much more impactful way. I am the listening ear for my sister through her panic attacks, and a sense of calm in my brothers aggressive episodes. I try my best every day to be a rock solid foundation and support for my family.
I do the same for my friends, providing an unconditional outlet of help and support in everything they go through. Many of my friends are part of the LGBTQIA+ community and have families that are less than supportive. I'm happy to be their family, not by blood but by choice. The connection, love, and care for one another, when you choose who to share it with, is always strongest, because everyone chooses to be in one another's lives; they choose to care for each other. That's what love is to me.
Love is choosing not to judge someone when they are at their worst. It is being compassionate and understanding to a person, and supporting them in whatever they do and who they are. Life is difficult, and situations arise that are less than ideal, but I choose to work towards being a light in the people's lives around me. When things get difficult, I extend a helping hand and unconditional help to those around me, because that care for others, is the truest form of love I can offer.
