I am, in a way living my wildest dreams. I migrated to the US 6 years ago. My academic life could have been better in Mexico, where education was very traditional. For as long as I can remember, I have been moved to expressing myself through art, coming to the United States and being able to go to an art school for high school, and now college has been a dream come true. My life has changed dramatically from barely passing grades to a 3.5 GPA and being on the Deans list of honors. As a Visual Effects major, I spend my day working on what I love. I live surrounded by artists and can collaborate with them to bring my visions to life. I want to participate in this list of incredible award-winning visionaries. Several prominent Mexican filmmakers have created award-winning movies with very particular visions, Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuaron, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, and Emmanuel Lubezky; they are my inspiration to get to a level of quality and creativity that is an example to people like me. As a visual effects major, I dream of being a creative director that brings to life magical stories for people to be transported worldwide through my movies. I dream of getting recognized as an immigrant that achieved a dream, so I can inspire others, make a good living by creating art, and as a bonus, financially aid artists like me to get there. Going to college creates several opportunities for artists and creative professionals like me. First, this kind of major is very technical; it requires hours and hours studying shape, lighting, movement, and training in different software and techniques to bring them to life in the most realistic place. College creates the unique opportunity to learn from the state-of-the-art facilities with the latest technologies and with experts in each tool. College creates a unique opportunity to present yourself to significant people in the business. An institution with this level of prestige grants skilled artists to big companies and investors in the media. It allows students to start immersing into the industry by providing scholarships and project opportunities that aid in getting a grasp of our craft as a business. College doesn't only create technical abilities; an art college is a collection of creativities and ideas that inspire and shape each other's art. The learning process is not only from teachers and lectures but also from our peers, from their creativity and ideas, and from being in an environment with creative people worldwide.
