My name is Carla Alondra Roldan Montengero. Both my parents immigrated from Mexico and created a life for themselves in America. Here both my siblings and I would be born. Ever since I was little I was conscious of how money was tight and how my parents struggled to provide for us. Seeing their struggle and hard work is one of the reasons why I have such a high motivation to be successful. I want to be able to provide for them like how they provided for me. However, my work is far from over and I assume I will face many challenges throughout my journey.
I am a female student who is looking to major in Environmental Engineering. Throughout my life, I have faced many criticisms regarding my choice of major. Many say that with engineering being such a male-dominated subject that it would be best to look at other things. There have also been slide remarks made about how in such a male-dominated major I am sure to fall behind. Nevertheless, I take no mind of their comments. their opinions and 'helpful criticisms' have never and will never stop me from working toward my goals. My gender will not prohibit and should NOT prohibit my success and happiness.
I plan to intern while in college and rack up as much experience as possible. While I know a lot of people struggle with receiving jobs fresh out of college I plan on working right after graduating. I want to waste no time in starting my career. Though I have no desire to be rich or extremely wealthy. I want to live a comfortable life and be able to support my family. What I do have a desire for is to leave a positive impact on the world. I want to be able to proudly say that I have done something positive for the Earth and I hope that my job will allow me to do that. I am extremely concerned about environmental issues and have always wanted to be involved in the change against these issues.
I also want to be a positive role model for young girls who are also looking into working in engineering or environmental jobs. I know how important it is to have a role model in your life. While growing up my mom and women like jane goodall were my role models. Both of them are such strong women who made me believe that my success was not a dream but instead my future. I want all the little girls out there to have someone who makes them feel the same way.
