With my higher education in computer science, I wish to improve my community in many ways. Firstly I would like to start a robotics company in West Virginia and provide high-paying and high-quality-of-life jobs to as many people as possible. Secondly, I would like to present and facilitate the opportunity for young students to participate in robotics programs. I would do this by volunteering my time to run these programs that desperately need adults that are willing to show up and offer their skills to teach. Utilizing my future computer science education I hope to gain more experience in the realm of robotics. My way of giving back to the community for all that it has given me throughout my life would be to start a company that places great emphasis on the lives of its workers and its relationship with the community. This would be a substantial endeavor that would be a long-term goal after graduating college. To provide context for my goals it is necessary to explain the robotics program that has shaped my high school experience. The idea of the FIRST Robotics Competition and all of its programs is simple. They provide competitions and a new game every year that students must build robots to compete in. This experience is incredibly beneficial to learning and has inspired me to attempt to expand access to these programs in my lifetime. In addition to starting a business, I would like to benefit my community by offering youth robotics programs to students starting in elementary school through high school. These youth programs have immensely shaped my life and I hope that many more individuals can be shaped by these programs. This aspiration would require the support of the surrounding community so it pairs well with my other goal of starting a company that focuses on being well-liked in the community. In the more immediate sense to benefit my community after college I would like to volunteer with my old robotics team to benefit students who participate in that program. During this time I would network with people who are willing to provide aid to projects that expand access to robotics programs and I would try to collect support for starting new teams at all levels of schooling. In summary, I want to get an education in computer science and use it to create jobs in my community and to spread STEM education in West Virginia.
