She spent several months in the hospital because of a cardiac condition that led to a stroke that put her in a coma for 17 days. She bravely fought for her life and survived. I interacted with this patient for a few days, during which she shared beautiful memories of her family. Days before her favorite holiday, Halloween, she was granted permission to leave the hospital. Her favorite thriller series is “Halloween”. To make the event even more spectacular, I assisted her with decorating her wheelchair in the theme of Michael Myers. She and other patients like her have significantly impacted my life and have given me the confirmation to pursue my dream career as a physician. When I started my senior year of high school, I joined a volunteer program developed by Henry Ford Health that allowed me to visit patients who would not usually have many visitors during this challenging time in their lives as I built up the courage to step foot into patients' rooms, a scene of relief spread across my body. Consequently, I understood that getting to know patients and introducing myself to them significantly impacted their days. Medicine has always been something that interested me. The idea of diagnosing the sick and solving their problem, sometimes revolving around life-saving measures, was the main attraction I had to it. As a child, I’ve had many experiences with doctors. My uncle died of AIDS when I was five, at the age of ten, my grandmother died in a tragic house fire that left my family and me homeless for six months; my close cousin, who was two years older than me, committed suicide when I was 11, and when I was 12, my aunt was shot three times in her chest resulting to her death. Despite the fact that these tragedies caused a great deal of trauma, they did not deter me from pursuing a career as a doctor; instead, they gave me even more motivation to help. I aspire to be like the doctors who attempted to help my family members. Assisting others brings me comfort and peace. Furthermore, my long-term objective has always been to become a physician. Being a trauma surgeon will allow me to help patients in their most vital moments. Becoming a surgeon will enable me to work with patients of all ages. Trauma surgery is regarded to be one of the most challenging specialties to go into due to many reasons. The main reasons are due to the amount of effort you must put in and the daunting schedule that goes along with it. This is a commitment I am gladly willing to take on. There are many ways one can help others, but this is the career I feel the most passionate about. The way people treat others can have a significant impact on their lives. I want to continue the kindness many have contributed to me. Becoming a doctor will be a complicated and rigorous process due to the amount of information I must learn, but it will be worth it. Helping individuals through their most trying times is influential because it lets them know they are not alone and someone is trying their hardest to help them.

She was drowning in sadness, swamped with debt, and left to care for her young children alone when our home caught fire, killing her mother. Being a single parent is stressful enough, but now mom had to start from scratch, this time without the assistance of her mother. The challenges of growing up in a low-income, single-parent household encouraged me to establish my goal of helping my community by becoming a physician. On the night my childhood home was destroyed, we lost everything. This gruesome fire took the life of my beloved grandmother while leaving my family mournful and homeless. We had nothing, no clothes, no food, and no home; we only had our car and a small amount of money. The financial burdens my mom had to face were something she wasn't prepared for. At the time, mom worked full-time as a caregiver at a nearby nursing home. This job didn't pay well, but it was her passion, and the money was enough to get by. My mother always taught me and Christian the importance of working a job you had a passion for. It was best to find a job that you loved doing and got paid well for. The agony of working a job you didn't like was not worth the money. For a long time, she struggled to keep up with bills. But she always found a way to ensure her children didn't see her worries. She always puts us first. We couldn't afford the nicest clothes or the cool new Jordans, but we were grateful for what we had. Things began to improve when Christian and I were old enough to work and assist mom with some of our household bills. Once I started my senior year of high school, I began to envision the life I wanted for myself. I wanted to help as many people as possible. Medicine has always interested me. The idea of diagnosing the sick and solving their problem was the main attraction I had to it. I joined our local hospital volunteer program, which allowed me to visit patients who would not usually have many visitors during this challenging time in their lives. As I built up the courage to step foot into patients' rooms, a scene of relief spread across my body. I share compassion for all patients, but one in particular made my heart skip a few beats. I aim to help people. Furthermore, I wish to save lives and assist people in their darkest hours. Being a biology major may not seem all that courageous; however, it's one step closer to enacting the change I hope to make in the world. Assisting others brings me comfort and peace. Furthermore, my long-term objective has always been to become a surgeon. Being a physician will allow me to help patients in their most horrendous moments. Growing up, I had a challenging time; I went through horrific situations that many people do not encounter, and these hardships inspired me to pursue my dream of becoming a trauma surgeon. August 6, 2016, was the day me and my family lost it all. My childhood home was set into a blazing inferno. This gruesome fire took the life of my beloved grandmother while leaving my family members and me mournful and homeless. We had nothing except our car and a small amount of money. This deeply disquieting incident has shaped me into the person I am today. I recall my family and I spending much time traveling between hotels. Having so much encouragement inspired me to keep going. The avalanche of generosity astonished us. As the number of miserable days grew, my mother began to gather enough money to rent a house. We moved to a modest bungalow miles from our former residence. As we settled into this new chapter of life, I learned never to give up hope, even when faced with challenging obstacles. Fast-forward to when I started my senior year of high school, I joined a volunteer program developed by Henry Ford Health that allowed me to visit patients who would not usually have many visitors during this challenging time in their lives as I built up the courage to step foot into patients' rooms, a scene of relief spread across my body. Becoming a physician will allow me to assist people during some of their most terrifying moments. Helping people in their most difficult times is essential because it lets them know they are not alone. As a doctor, I'll do all in my power to improve their day, just as wonderful people helped me and my family during the most challenging time of our lives.

It was a rainy autumn morning; I was awoken by the soothing sounds of raindrops thumping on my window. My family and I mourned because it was the second anniversary of my beloved grandmother passing away in a ruthless house fire. My mother had the fantastic idea of taking my oldest brother and me to our local animal shelter. We were interested in adding a new addition to our family to help lift us from this salient time. As we approached the shelter, my heart was overfilled with contentment. I stepped out of the car and proudly strolled down the shelter's walkway. I was battered by a wave of sympathy from hearing dogs barking. I was overcome with emotion listening to these animals, feeling so bad for them being locked behind a kennel, wanting to rescue them all. Although, I knew I had to stay focused and engage with one dog. I was on a mission to find my best friend. As I walked the Isles, going from cage to cage, admiring these animals in the hopes of finding a dog that would build a strong connection with me. As I marveled at these canines, I came across a miniature fluffy poodle named Sammy, with big brown eyes that I felt were filled with sadness. As I put my hand close to the cage, the dog crept up to the front. As he approached me, he began to wag his tail of interest and slowly licked my hand; from that moment, I was certain the dog I was hunting for had been found. My family and I were approached by a volunteer who asked if we would like to spend time with him outside the kennel. Naturally, we agreed as she led us to the playroom to introduce us to the puppy, with whom I had already fallen in love. She revealed some details regarding Sammy.; a woman found him as he strutted through a small park in Detroit, Michigan. He was recently brought into the shelter and attracted a lot of interest from guests. As I fell in love with this dog, my mother began to fill out his application. I couldn't believe I had finally found a dog that would potentially be my best friend. I impatiently waited one long week for confirmation of our adoption. As I walked out of school, preparing to enter my mother's car, her phone rang. As she answered, she was informed that our application was approved and we could pick him up the next day. As my mom hung up the phone and told me the good news, Becoming the official owner of my new best friend made me feel happy and relieved. The next day we picked him up and took him home. We introduced him to all his new toys and the big backyard he loved. I was happy to assure him that he would never be locked in a cage again. I changed the dog's name to Cloudy to resemble the time he lifted us from a depressing time of grief. As the year went on, I and cloudy became inseparable. I did everything I could to spend time together, including walking to parks and playing his favorite game of fetch. He has been there for me through my highs and lows, as well as during important occasions like several birthdays and my first day of high school. I thank Cloudy for all our time together and look forward to celebrating many more notable events with him.

Hello, my name is Cameron Cooper. I am a 17 years old high school student living in Ecorse, Michigan. I attend Theodore Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, Michigan. I have a 3.7 GPA, which places me in the top 15 percent of my senior class out of three hundred fifty students. During my life, I have faced many hardships, but the worst happened on August 6, 2016, my childhood home was set into a blazing inferno. This gruesome fire took the life of my beloved grandmother while leaving my family members and me mournful and homeless. We had nothing, no clothes, no food, and no home; all we had was our car and a small amount of money. When word got out that there was a family in need of assistance in the small city where we sought refuge, several people stepped forward to offer their support. In addition to molding me into the person I am today, this horrible experience also helped me realize my biggest goals and aspirations, like going to college and becoming a Trauma Surgeon. I remember traveling between hotels for a great deal of time. Having much support motivated me to keep moving forward. There was an enormous outpouring of donations, including clothing items and money, which we greatly needed. As the long nights continued in unpleasant hotel rooms, we began saving enough money to lease a home. We settled in a beautiful three-bedroom bungalow in a nearby city from our previous home. We were so grateful to our landlord for offering to cover the first two months of rent. As we settled into our new home to begin a new chapter in our lives, I realized that the kindnesses that arbitrary strangers bestow could profoundly impact others. This prominent event has significantly altered my life and contributed to the development of the person I am today. The way people treat others can have a significant impact on their lives. As I grow wiser, I want to continue the kindness many have contributed to me. This experience has led me to many of my inspirations in life. In the future, I hope to become a Trauma Surgeon. Becoming a Trauma Surgeon will allow me to assist people during some of their most terrifying moments. Helping people in their most difficult times is essential to me because it lets them know they are not alone and that someone is making every effort to assist them. This salient time in my life has taught me never to make assumptions about others because you never know what hardships they have faced. The kindness you show can reveal a lot about you. If you feel compelled to assist someone, do so because you could save a life while motivating and guiding someone to their success. With this scholarship, I’ll be able to pursue my deepest dreams. Becoming a Trauma Surgeon is vital to me because it means I can help save many lives. If I successfully receive this scholarship, it will assist me in reducing some of the debt I will have to bear while attempting to further my education so I may alter the way the world is and improve countless lives.
