Al-Haj Abdallah R Abdallah Muslim Scholarship
As a muslim student with a 3.7 average gpa, I am thinking about double majoring. I am going to major in Aerospace Engineering and Physics. The people that have inspired me to take up Aerospace Engineering and Physics are my siblings and parents. This is because neither my parents' or my siblings went to college and it really means a lot to me to be a first gen student. It is important for me to seek higher education so that I can help make a difference in the world. With an Aerospace Engineering degree, I hope to join the CIA and do an internship with them. After I serve the required time at the CIA after interning, I will then hope to go on and work for NASA to help build rockets to further explore space. However, I think that a Physics degree would help me understand how to help make rockets exit the atmosphere and how to make the rockets safe for crewed missions. With an Aerospace Engineer degree, I could also work on making wind turbines as an alternate source of energy. Using wind turbines will help slow down the speed of climate change which affects the whole planet. In other words, an Aerospace Engineering degree will help slowly save the world by installing more wind turbines to better supply energy to different homes and possibly to different people's vehicles if we manage to make wind powered vehicles as a way to combat gas powered vehicles. Wind turbines also help with making electricity for homes to power their basic heat. Solar panels also help homes with their basic heat and to power their electricity for their televisions. I have made differences in my community by helping work concession stands at my high school's home basketball games. I also Laundry at a hotel. Working in laundry helps the hotel stay sanitary so the residents don't get sick. As community service, I also helped set up for a senior citizen party in a local senior citizen home. To me, being a Muslim means that I have something to believe in. If I have something to believe in, that means that I believe that Allah is helping me reach my goals in life to become more successful. Being a Muslim also helps me believe that Allah will help me get out of poverty and help the world become a better place.

I think that the quote relates to me because I myself, play video games. As someone who plays video games, I'm always hearing people say that violent video games cause violence when in reality, it was violence that inspired those video games to exist and does not cause violence if the person playing the video game knows the consequences if they repeat what happens in the video game in real life. As a gamer, I also hear people say that playing video games doesn't do anything for the brain or even deteriorates the brain. This claim is false since I read from several articles saying that playing certain video games increases grey matter in the brain and some of those games included strategy games, and some strategy games are violent. Another way that I relate to this quote is that some people say that playing online games is bad since people bully other people on the headset and say mean and racist things to other players but sometimes there can be some good people playing that talk to people helping them through what it is that they are going through such as anxiety or depression. I also relate to this quote as I heard people say on headsets things that they wouldn't say to people if they were in person or in public so playing video games does disconnect people from social norms in that way. Another way that it could effect people's behavior in real life is by giving players thoughts of doing or saying racist and sexist remarks or actions against another human being for doing something that they don't believe in. An example of this is how people write hate letters to actors who played villains in movies or video games or someone that killed their favorite character in a movie or video game because they don't realise that the actor is that way in real life or they just don't have anything else better to do than to harass someone that is trying to make a living or inspire another person to start acting. As a person who plays video games, playing games is just a way for me to disconnect from the world and relax without having to worry about responsibilities that I have to do later on or the memory of something embarrassing I did a few years back but instead focus on what I'm doing in the game.
