Bio

Do you know why I never trust stairs?.... They are always up to something. Hello, my name is Caleb O'Hara. To showcase my personality, I wanted to start off my bio with a "dad joke". I come from Anchorage, Alaska, and I love to wrestle, watch Netflix, lift, run outdoors, longboard in the summer, snowboard in the winter, coach/mentor little wrestlers, run my clothing business, and vlog my daily adventures. And to answer your question...no, sadly Alaskans do not own penguins for pets, but we do have lots of snow! My number one goal in life is to represent Christ. So, I am going to be going to college and wrestling at the collegiate level while pursuing a bachelor's degree in Marketing. After I get my bachelor's degree, I will be an officer in the Air Force and be a federal firefighter while having a side hustle with my marketing degree. I will serve in the military as long as my body permits because I love helping citizens and my country. My passions: - maintaining a 3.9 GPA - wrestling/competing because I love the thrill of the hunt and the art of manipulating someone else's body (it is quite difficult and beautiful) - commercial gill net fishing (in Bristol Bay, AK) because it builds a work ethic by working 17-20 hour days while only sleeping 3-6 hours a night while only being on a 32-foot boat for 28 days (not ever touching land) - selling vintage "high-end" wrestling clothes on my new Instagram page because it teaches me marketing strategies over a social media business platform, and it also helps me make new connections by being an online establishment

Class Officer — I was the president of the freshman class in 2017. Then I was the vice president of my class my sophomore year in 2018. We put together many meetings to talk about class activities like late nights and fundraisers for our Spirit Week (a week where we dress up and watch a homecoming basketball game). We used the money to donate to charity, class pizza parties, and other different school functions.

Independent — I was assistant coach the local wrestling club in Anchorage, Alaska. Like many Americans, 2020 was a very rough year for me. Many moments were life-changing. I had battled through tribulation after tribulation, and some of the tribulations were physical while others would wreak havoc on my emotions. My hatred for the year 2020 started with an emotional hangover from a wrestling state finals loss that happened a week before New Year's. I poured my heart and soul into the wrestling season after my parents split up and did not end up at the top of the podium. Then, I lick my wounds and get back on the mat to train for nationals. I trained hard for four to five hours a day while trying to stay on top of my academics, but while I was training for those long hours, Covid-19 was starting to impact the Eastern side of the globe. So, the national tournament that I qualified for was taken from me, and I spent over 300 hours of intense training for no reason. So I started licking my mental wounds again...until I got sick with mononucleosis. I was bedridden for three weeks and kissed all my glorious muscle gains goodbye. I also still had online school to keep up with and did not feel like I wanted to continue breathing at this point. Once I got over my sickness I started longboarding and lifting at my house, but once again, 2020 would knock my emotional state down a notch. One of my good friends from my childhood went into his room and hung himself while I was only 100 feet from his house. I was picking up a friend to go to a workout with at my house which was on the same street. I did not know how to process the news or know how to mentally bounce back after a loss like that. I helped his mom around the house and delivered her flowers once a week. At this point, many of my friends were united and came together to grieve as one body, and we had a balloon send-off at a local Alaskan teenage hotspot. Even after all the loss that I went through with 2020, I still did not know how to grieve something this impactful. So I did what only a few humans could do, I ran from my problems and hopped on a commercial fishing vessel for 28 days. I had no cell reception and no connection with the land. The crew of one captain and three deckhands were on a 32-foot boat. I stayed in my head mostly and talked with my crewmates about what it meant to truly grieve a loss. While talking to one of the deckhands, my cousin Johnathan, he recounted the story of his dad dying in a plane accident when he was only eleven. He helped through the first half of my grieving process and impacted my view on loss more than anyone could. That month-long period of being on the boat changed my mindset for the better. I came back and apologized to my mom for being a spoiled brat who only cared about himself. I started seeking new mentors in many different areas of my life, and I had made many new friends with my newfound ability to care for others and help them. I made sure everyone knew that I cared for them and that I would help them with anything that I could when I was not busy. My perspective changed not only physically and mentally, but now spiritually too. I am now a devout Christian and I truly do not know what I would be doing with my life if it were not for the godly mentors He inspired to work with me. My calling is to help and care for the broken people of this world. Everyone has something that is hurting, and I feel that if more people just showed that they cared about their fellow neighbors, the world would be a better place. I will pursue a degree in Marketing at the college of Arizona State, and then once I finish my degree I want to be an active duty Federal Firefighter for the Air Force. Hopefully, once I serve my time and have enough money to back my campaign, I would like to get into politics with the sole purpose to help the people who are truly hurting. My first focus will be on the youth and corrupt Alaskan foster care system. The main focus throughout all of this is keeping a positive attitude for the ones who need it the most, and for the ones who are looking down and cheering me on.

When I was young, I realized I had a gift and passion for business and social media marketing. I started my first Instagram clothing business and it took off in the first three weeks. I then made over $200 in online sales within the first week just by making my page look unique and original. I had noticed that when I searched up other clothing and wrestling pages on Instagram, I would see names like “Cali Clothing” or “Funky Jersey Boys”. Since I identified a pattern with these pages in how these companies were named, and that there were not any similar Alaskan themed pages, I designed my own business page with an Alaskan theme. I made the profile picture a photo of my friend and I in the snow holding our high-end wrestling shoes. I believe the main reason we have been so successful with such a small business is because I recognized that people wanted authentic Alaska wrestling gear, but there was no one else in the state employing this unique Alaskan characteristic. Now, I am finishing up selling all of my old wrestling shoes and clothes, and then I am going to start manufacturing Alaska-based, wrestling sweatpants. I have started drawing up plans with the Alaska Freestyle Wrestling logo on them and I will soon have my own brand to add to my business repertoire. I was going to put in orders of black baggy and tight sweatpants with the Alaska logo in white or silver for my first batch of sweats. I think a college education is a necessity, and will not only help me better my craft, but also get my foot in the door of professional entrepreneurship, networking, and maturing in emotional intelligence. I will be walking on to a Division 1 wrestling program in college and will grow my clientele and brand while utilizing my social media influence. College opens up many necessary doors to be a successful, young businessman. The opportunities are limitless when you apply yourself to your gifts. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to share one of my favorite projects and future ideas with you. I appreciate your generosity with this scholarship.

On the second tournament of the season during my sophomore year in 2018, I tore my anterior/posterior labrum in my shoulder. I could only bike and do certain lifts so that my shoulder wouldn’t get worse. I was coming off of a state title the year before, so I had everyone gunning for me. Although I did have a broken shoulder, nobody scored any points on me until the state finals. During the state finals, I wrestled hard for six minutes and won with a major decision of 9-2. So, I won my second state title with a SHATTERED shoulder.

Hello, I am going to start off with some of my favorite Trigonometry jokes, "Why are Christians not able to do Trigonometry?...because Jesus took away their sin." and finally, "My last online Trigonometry teacher wasn't a good teacher...she always went off on a tangent". My name is Caleb O'Hara and I am from Anchorage, Alaska. Since virtual learning has started, I have had a tough time maintaining good grades and actually soaking in the information I was taught. Trigonometry and Pre-calculus have been a weak spot for my senior year, and I am anxious and worried about what will be in store for me next year in college because there are many concepts I still do not understand. I have never had a problem with math until this year. So, I have never needed a math tutor. I think that having a math tutor will not only help my grades but also relieve the anxiety and stress of college math.
