FinalistBio
I am a first-year nursing student at Shenandoah University with minors in Public Health and Sociology. After I graduate I intend to be a pediatric nurse practitioner and run my own jewelry and clothing business. I always knew I wanted to be a pediatric nurse practitioner. If it wasn’t for nursing I would have done healthcare management or administration. I chose a minor in public health because of how much I care about inequalities in health care and how they impact myself and many members of my community and family especially recently. I recently declared another minor in sociology because of my sociology professor and engagement in class helped me realize how important topics of inequality are outside of just healthcare. Sociology has helped me gain a better understanding and a big-picture image of what I could do to advocate for my community and other communities that are underrepresented. I want to use my knowledge and time to help fight drug abuse in Baltimore to help a member of someone else's family and that's also part of why I want to be a nurse practitioner. Other than being a role model for my younger siblings I want to show kids in Baltimore that they are more than just where they are from and are capable of anything and so much more than what some people expect of them. I want to work with the local legislature to make better changes for my community even if I won't live there forever, I will always say that is where I'm from. I want to help my community by leaving it better than what I grew up in and building a better foundation for the next generations.
