I am a first generation student and a senior at Louisiana State University going into the field of Data Science. I'm pursuing a minor in Arabic and have had the pleasure of studying abroad twice on scholarship. I am a first generation student with a single mom and 10 younger siblings. I would have never been afforded these opportunities if not for scholarships. The scholarship that has supported the majority of my tuition over the past 3 years is running out this semester. I've started working three jobs in preparation to pay for next semesters tuition and living expenses. Even with this, I'm afraid I won't have enough.
I am proud to be an LSU CxC Distinguished Communicator Candidate where I take specialized communication intensive courses, cumulating in a final portfolio that will be assessed by the CxC board later this year. For the past 3 years, I have held the position of lead receptionist in the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering suite at Louisiana State University.
I am an extremely active person who loves to hike, backpack, bike, swim, and play sports. I am also active in my community, where I frequently volunteer, teach, and hold leadership positions as part of the Rotary Club, Muslim Student Association, AUS Bridge Program, and Society of Women Engineers. I am the proud president and founder of the Arabic Language Club at LSU. I am the oldest of 11 children and the daughter of a single teen mom. I attend college to break generational cycles and pave a path for my siblings to follow.

Kirk I. Woods Memorial Scholarship
College has been a time of extreme personal growth and my experiences here have equipped me with the skills to navigate an increasingly interconnected world. I study Data Analytics and Arabic and it’s allowed me to study abroad and work at the intersection of languages and technology. I see this unique combination of disciplines as a way to foster meaningful connections in a world that is often divided.
Right now, I juggle three part-time jobs to save for my tuition and the financial burden will only increase as my main scholarship runs out next semester. To graduate on time, I’d need to work longer hours. While this weighs heavily, I realize the importance of finishing my degree and I’m prepared to make personal sacrifices to complete my goals. Education has the power to transform lives and I see it as my responsibility to use what I learn to uplift the communities around me. On a personal level, I’m the oldest of 11 children. My mom has an associates degree and my dad didn’t complete middle school. I want to show my younger siblings that getting a degree is possible and can be a path to success.
In the long term, I envision using my degree to develop sustainable community programs, creating pathways for others to benefit from the same kind of opportunities that have shaped my own life. I recently started the Arabic Language Club at my university and I’ve been able to establish it as a space where students of all backgrounds feel welcome and empowered. This club has given me a dream for a nonprofit focused on linguistic development in my community. I believe in using education not just for individual gain but as a tool for collective empowerment. Whether through leadership roles, mentorship, or simply being present in spaces where representation matters, I aim to inspire others to pursue their own dreams and break down barriers.
I believe education is not just a privilege but a responsibility and I’m determined to pave the way for those who come after me, especially my younger siblings. Through leadership, mentorship and community-building efforts like the Arabic Language Club and my future nonprofit, I aim to foster spaces where everyone feels empowered to thrive. My goal is to not only break barriers for myself but to create opportunities for others, ensuring that education becomes a gateway to success for generations to come.
Kim Moon Bae Underrepresented Students Scholarship
As an African American Muslim convert, my identity has deeply shaped the way I navigate the world and the goals I set for myself. I often find myself balancing multiple cultural, social, and religious expectations, which has developed in me a strong sense of resilience and adaptability. In university I study Data Science and Arabic, and I rarely see myself reflected in the spaces I aspire to be in—whether academically, professionally, or even in casual social settings. This lack of representation pushed me to welcome camaraderie while relying on myself. It also fueled a desire not only to excel but to create spaces where others like me can thrive.
My experiences have taught me the value of perseverance, empathy, and self-advocacy. There have been moments when I’ve had to advocate for myself in environments where my voice wasn’t initially heard or valued. I’ve had people completely deny that I’m American simply because of my religion or the way that I dress. I’ve also had ignorant Muslims deny my religiosity because of the color of my skin. Those moments, though difficult, have been transformative in helping me grow a thick skin and a stronger sense of purpose. I’ve also been fortunate to find allies and mentors along the way, whose support has been crucial in navigating these challenges.
Moving forward, I aim to use my experiences to uplift others, whether through leadership roles, mentoring, or simply by being visible in spaces where our presence matters. Over the past few months, I’ve worked to establish the Arabic Language Club as a space where students of all backgrounds feel welcome and empowered. We’ve made it a priority to celebrate the diversity within the Arabic-speaking world while fostering camaraderie among learners. We welcome students of all races and walks of life and have been very proud to engage both the white American community and the African Arabic speaking community. These are two communities that are often left out of discussions about Arabic scholarship. Through events, discussions, and resources, we are building a safe space where students can engage not only with the language but with the broader cultural and social contexts it inhabits.
I’m passionate about creating inclusive environments, where everyone, regardless of their background, feels empowered to bring their full selves. My journey has instilled in me a deep commitment to breaking barriers, not just for myself but for those who will come after me.
Journey 180 Planner Changemaker Scholarship
One of my most impactful contributions has been the establishment of the Arabic Club at Louisiana State University. I founded with the aim of promoting understanding and appreciation of Arabic language and culture among students. I started my Arabic journey at LSU with no prior knowledge of Arabic. As a first generation American student, my family only speaks English. At the Arabic Club, we organize cultural events, language practice sessions, and guest lectures, providing a platform for students to engage with and learn from each other. By creating a space for dialogue and cultural exchange, the club has helped to break down stereotypes and foster mutual respect.
Another key area of my involvement has been promoting STEM education among underrepresented minorities. I have participated in outreach programs designed to introduce young students to the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. By sharing my own journey and passion for data science, I have aimed to inspire and mentor the next generation of minority students, encouraging them to pursue careers in STEM. These efforts help to address the systemic barriers that often prevent minorities from accessing opportunities in these fields.
During my time studying abroad in the UAE, I volunteered in local communities, engaging in projects that supported English literacy among college students, I participated in community service projects that aimed to clothe poor children during the holidays. These experiences allowed me to contribute to the global community and gain a deeper appreciation for the diverse challenges faced by different societies.
These efforts have significantly contributed to my personal growth. Through my work with the Arabic Club, I have developed strong leadership and organizational skills, learning how to bring people together and create inclusive spaces. My involvement in STEM outreach has reinforced my commitment to social justice and equity, teaching me the importance of representation and access to education. Volunteering abroad has broadened my worldview, enhancing my cultural sensitivity and empathy.
My experiences have taught me that meaningful change starts with individual actions and community engagement. I plan to use my education and skills to advocate for global policies and programs that promote equity and inclusion, both locally and globally. By leveraging data science, I hope to develop solutions that address systemic inequalities and support marginalized communities.
In summary, my efforts related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice have had a positive impact on my communities and have fostered my growth as a leader and advocate. I am dedicated to continuing this work, using my experiences and education to create a more inclusive and equitable society. Thank you for considering my application.
Linda Hicks Memorial Scholarship
My life has been deeply impacted by domestic violence and substance abuse, primarily through my mother, who is a repeated victim of domestic violence and a former alcoholic. Growing up, I witnessed the toll these issues took on her and our family. It was incredibly challenging to see someone I love endure such pain and struggle with addiction.
As I transitioned into adulthood, I had to learn to respect and understand the influence of my mother's childhood on the decisions she makes now. Her past experiences shaped her behavior and relationships, often leading her to love people I find easy to hate. This understanding has been a crucial part of my personal growth, teaching me to have grace and compassion for my mother. Recognizing that she is truly trying her best has allowed me to support her in more meaningful ways and to heal our relationship.
My firsthand experience with domestic violence extended beyond my family home. I spent eight months in a domestic violence transitional shelter, where I gained a deeper understanding of the complexities and challenges faced by survivors. Fortunately, my mom often tried to shield me from the worst of the abuse and would usually leave a relationship after the abuse became physical. However, in the shelter, I frequently saw women and children with broken arms, black eyes, and more. Oftentimes their abusers would track the women down and beat them again after they graduated from the shelter. This period was transformative, reinforcing my commitment to advocating for and supporting those affected by domestic violence.
In my degree I have committed myself to telling untold stories through data. My thesis, “Global Economic Impacts on the War on Terror” tells a story of millions of ruined lives and the unfortunate reality of the crooks who got rich off of calamity and American fear.
The challenges I’ve faced due to domestic violence and substance abuse have profoundly shaped my outlook and aspirations. My mother’s resilience and our journey together have taught me the importance of compassion, understanding, and grace. Through my higher education and personal experiences, I am committed to improving the care, coordination, and communication for African American women impacted by these issues. My goal is to create lasting, positive change that empowers women to overcome their circumstances and lead fulfilling lives.
I think the biggest way I can change the community is by telling my story and breaking the cycle. This scholarship will allow me to graduate university debt free. Thank you for your consideration.

Combined Worlds Scholarship
Travel can be a profoundly transformative experience, offering exposure to different cultures, perspectives, and environments. In my own experience, once I stepped outside of familiar surroundings, I was able to gain a broader understanding of the world, challenge my preconceptions, and develop a more nuanced perspective on global issues. I have been fortunate enough to study abroad in Morocco and the UAE. In Morocco, I spent five weeks immersing myself in the local culture, studying Arabic full time, and understanding the intricate dynamics of Moroccan society through living with my host family. This short but intense period allowed me to appreciate the country's rich history and drastically improve my Arabic through immersion..
In the UAE, I had the opportunity to study for an entire school year. This extended stay provided a deeper dive into the Gulf’s unique blend of tradition and modernity. Living and studying in such a rapidly developing country gave me firsthand insights into the economic and social changes shaping the Middle East. I engaged with local communities, participated in cultural events, and applied my data science knowledge in a real-world context.
These international experiences have been transformative in several ways. Exposure to different cultures has broadened my worldview and taught me to appreciate diverse perspectives. Interacting with people from various backgrounds has enhanced my communication skills and cultural sensitivity, essential traits in today's globalized world. Additionally, navigating new environments and overcoming challenges abroad have strengthened my resilience and adaptability.
However, these valuable experiences have come at a significant financial cost. As a first-generation African American student, before and after going abroad, I worked three jobs year-round to afford these opportunities. Despite my hard work, the financial toll is considerable, making it challenging to balance work and studies. Yet, I am determined to invest in my education and personal growth, knowing that these experiences have shaped my future and enabled me to contribute meaningfully to my community and field. I returned to America in May and immediately started working (the very day I landed!). Even still, fee bills for the fall came all too soon. I will be completing my last year in university at home in Louisiana but this does not mean tuition will be cheap.
Traveling and studying abroad have not only expanded my academic horizons but also deepened my understanding of myself and the world around me. These experiences have reaffirmed my commitment to using my data science skills in a global context, particularly in roles involving international relations or economic development. They have also fueled my passion for cultural exchange and global understanding, which I hope to continue promoting through my career and community involvement.
Receiving financial support from this scholarship would alleviate some of the burdens I face and allow me to focus more on my studies and personal development. It would enable me to continue pursuing transformative experiences that enhance my education and prepare me for a future where I can make a positive impact on a global scale.

TEAM ROX Scholarship
My dedication to helping others be their best has been shaped by a journey focused on leveraging my skills to uplift and empower those around me. Teaching adults English has become a deeply ingrained purpose and passion.
My initial experience was in tutoring children and stems from a commitment to nurturing young minds. I've honed my ability to communicate complex concepts in simple, accessible ways. As the oldest of 11 children, this is a skill that came naturally to me. Through patience, creativity, and personalized teaching methods, I've witnessed struggling students transform into confident learners, excelling in their academics.
Teaching English to Emirati adults seeking higher education opportunities abroad was something new and exciting. Teaching adults requires a vastly different skill set than teaching children. I've facilitated language learning, empowering individuals to overcome language barriers and pursue their academic dreams. Witnessing their growth and newfound confidence to navigate academic settings abroad has fueled my passion for enabling access to education. When my last class of students graduated this month, I was pleased to hear that almost all of them were following through with their commitment to higher education and most of them had chosen to study in an English speaking country.
Many Emiratis come to class knowing some English from media or from the highly globalized environment of the UAE. However, many of them quickly realize that their grammar and pronunciation skills are severely lacking. Most times, they are able to get their point across but not in a way suitable for higher education and professional environments. I moved to the UAE from the US in hopes of a different environment in Computer Science and more support in my Arabic language learning journey. Working with these students is not only fulfilling and entertaining, but it also allows me to help them be their best.
My skills have evolved through practical experience and a genuine desire to make a difference. I've developed effective teaching strategies tailored to diverse learning needs, fostering an environment where individuals thrive. Beyond imparting knowledge, I strive to instill a sense of confidence and self-belief in those I teach. Many students lack this integral part of language learning and it hinders them when speaking to new people.
It's more than a set of skills; it's a purposeful dedication to empower individuals to reach their full potential. Guiding children and adults alike to overcome educational barriers aligns with my belief in the transformative power of education. Helping others be their best has become not just a skill set but a deeply ingrained part of my purpose, one that fuels my passion to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those I teach.
As I enter my third semester living alone, I find myself struggling to pay for university and living costs. I am a first generation college student and neither of my parents completed high school. They are not able to financially support me. Although I do have a job tutoring, my checks are going to increasing rent prices and textbooks. I am not eligible for most scholarships at my university because I am a US citizen. This scholarship would allow me to focus on school and teaching. Thank you for your consideration.

Eco-Warrior Scholarship
Living a sustainable lifestyle is something I'm committed to and try to make part of my daily routine. One of the ways I reduce my carbon footprint is by choosing more eco-friendly modes of transportation. Whenever possible, I opt for biking or public transport to get around. Not only does this help me be more environmentally friendly. It also promotes my personal health and well-being. It's an impactful step towards reducing emissions and lessening the strain on our environment.
I strongly believe in the importance of individuals reducing their carbon footprint while we fight for big corporations to do the same. The choices we make in our lives directly affect the health of our planet as a whole. Transportation emissions play a role in climate change so by embracing commuting methods we actively contribute to mitigating our environmental impact. By relying on public transportation systems we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions improve air quality, address climate change issues and preserve resources for future generations.
Choosing to ride my bike or take public transport reflects my commitment to being sustainable. It's not just about convenience; it's about making an effort to make a positive contribution to our planet. By minimizing my reliance, on cars and advocating for transportation options I hope to set an example that inspires others to embrace eco-friendly practices in their own daily lives.
I'm currently studying abroad in the UAE and I'm excited to join the prevalent conversations surrounding climate change and sustainability right now. This weekend, I plan to attend COP28 in Dubai. This is an international conference regarding the global effects of climate change and how to mitigate them. I strongly believe that every single action matters and when we add them all up these small decisions shape the path towards a future.
Living a sustainable lifestyle is more than a personal choice; it's a commitment to our collective future. As I immerse myself in the conversations and initiatives around climate change during my studies abroad in the UAE, I'm eager to engage with like-minded individuals, exchange ideas, and learn from diverse perspectives about mitigating the impact of climate change. I firmly believe that individual actions, such as choosing eco-friendly transportation, attending conferences, recycling, buying responsibly, and advocating for sustainable practices, collectively steer us toward a more environmentally conscious future. Each small decision counts, and together, they pave the way for a world where sustainability is not just an option but a way of life.

I study at Louisiana State University but I was given the incredible opportunity to study abroad in the UAE for the 23-24 school year. When I get back to the US, I plan to revive my schools’ Arabic program. I have been studying Arabic for the past two years and this initiative will help bridge the gap between different communities at my school. Through the club, I intend to create a space where students can learn about and appreciate the Arabic language, its rich history, and the vibrant cultures it represents. I plan to also teach them about the opportunities for studying abroad in the Middle East and North Africa. This will not only be an educational endeavor but also a means of promoting cultural exchange and dialogue, fostering greater understanding and unity within my home university.
Looking ahead, I plan to make a meaningful impact by establishing community-driven programs that provide educational resources and mentorship to underserved youth. Currently, I teach Emirati student English in the UAE and I have a long history of volunteering in underserved nursing homes. Through these initiatives, I aim to break the cycle of socioeconomic adversity by advocating for equal opportunities and fostering a sense of empowerment within my community.
Experiencing socioeconomic adversity has not defined me, but rather, it has fueled my determination to effect positive change. I grew up as the oldest of eleven and was raised by a single mom. Being a first generation student has cultivated a profound sense of purpose and determination, guiding my future plans in advocating for equal access to education and resources.
After graduation, I plan to apply to a master’s program in Data and Neuroscience. I’ve always been fascinated by medicine and the human body but I was never interested in becoming a doctor or nurse. I’ve continued with my path of Data and Computer Science and I’ve absolutely loved it. Recently, I found out about programs that combine the two fields and I think it’s a perfect choice for my master’s. This will allow me to hone in on a niche in data analytics that I’m really passionate about.

Chadwick D. McNab Memorial Scholarship
In my first C++ class, I worked on a project that kindled my passion for technology and showcased its potential to address real-world problems. The task was to create a simple program that could solve a practical issue, and I chose to tackle food waste in my community.
I developed a basic inventory management system that allowed users to input and track their food items, set expiration dates, and receive automated reminders for items about to expire. This project aimed to make a meaningful impact by reducing food waste, benefiting both individuals and small businesses. It used my new C++ knowledge with my existing competence in data science.
The process of creating this program was both challenging and rewarding. I had to apply the concepts I learned in my introductory class, such as classes, loops, and functions, to design a somewhat user-friendly interface. As I delved into coding and testing, I saw how technology could be harnessed to make daily life easier and more efficient.
This experience was honestly transformative. It demonstrated the power of technology even in its most elementary form and inspired me to explore the vast potential within the field. What motivated me most was the positive feedback from users who found the tool useful. Small business owners expressed their gratitude a it helped sthem save money and minimize food waste.
That experience served as a pivotal moment in my technological journey and reinforced my belief in technology's capacity to inspire change. It ignited a passion for utilizing technology to make a difference, whether through complex innovations or simple yet effective solutions.
This project reaffirmed my commitment to pursuing a career in technology. It showed me that even small-scale projects have a significant impact. After that class, I dove even deeper into data analytics and computer science, earning the Google Data Analytics Certificate. My goal is to create solutions that bridge the gap between technological innovation and pressing societal challenges, ultimately making the world a better place.

Your generosity would not only make a lasting impact on my academic journey but also serve as a source of inspiration as I strive to reach my potential and make a meaningful difference in the world. Thank you for taking the time to review my application and for considering me for this opportunity.
Bold Investing Scholarship
I think the biggest investing tip that I’ve taken to heart is to prioritize my future over my present. This tip is important to me because I don’t just apply it to investing but I also apply it to everyday life. When I’m tired from work or school I remind myself of the impact I plan to make in the future and I’m able to continue working. Ever since receiving this advice I’ve tried to implement it as much as possible. When money hits my bank account, I’m able to make smart investing and saving decisions because I’m prioritizing my future earnings over the latest gadget or clothing item I want to buy. I think this is an advice that should be given to everyone.
Studyist Education Equity Scholarship
I think that despite the cards that a person is dealt in life, they should be given an equal opportunity to elevate themselves through education. I’m a first generation college student and the oldest of 11 children. Fortunately, through the help of mentors and the adults in my life, I’ve been able to earn my place in a flagship university. I’ve been afforded the time to focus on my studies. Unfortunately, so many will never receive this chance through no fault of their own. Even now despite the work I’ve put in to get to this place in life I’m undergoing financial hardship. This is partly due to educational inequity. Those that were born into marginalized groups and less privileged backgrounds have a significantly harder time receiving higher education and I think this basic reality goes against the American dream. As Americans and as humans, educational inequality is something we should all be aware of and strive to remedy.

African-American Entrepreneurs Grant — Female Award
As an African American Muslimah in the West there are limited options for modest clothing. When I converted to Islam, I quickly noticed that all of the attractive modest clothing was way too expensive. Furthermore, the modest clothing that was affordable seemed way to mature for someone my age. I felt that that was unfair to all Westerners who choose to dress in a modest way. Especially those with limited finances. I decide to take some initiative and make a change by partnering with the Young Entrepreneurs Association in my city in an effort to cultivate a clothing brand that is modest, affordable, and stylish. After researching and speaking with potential customers in my target market, I am even more sure that this will leave a lasting positive impact on both Western fashion and modest fashion.
The clothing for my brand will be made ethically and sustainably manufactured the United States. Many brands create their clothing in an unsustainable and arguably unethical way. That is precisely the type of behavior that I am trying to combat. My brand will bend the rules of fashion to create interesting and mesmerizing silhouettes. It will include patterns and styles influenced by Middle Eastern and African Countries while still loosely adhering to Western styles in a way that is flattering. Our sizes will be inclusive and our models will be of varied body types and skin tones. I am making this brand to solve faults that I have found in other brands while making a profound impact on Muslim community.
This scholarship would be immensely helpful. I would love to include both tall and petite sizes early on in the launch. However, those types of marginalized sizes cost a significant amount of money to include so early on in production. I think inclusivity is so important especially in fashion. This scholarship would aid in allowing my brand to include these sizes and variations of clothing. It would mean so much to me and it would mean the world to my customers. As a16 year old college student, I already have limited resources to start this business but I am determined to create a change in my community.
With the backing of the Young Entrepreneurs Association as well as my peers and family, I know that this business will be a success if given the resources and trust to flourish. My business will convey inclusivity among womxn while challenging the idea that to be heard, a women must show skin.
Little Bundle Supermom Scholarship — High School Award
My mother is the strongest person I know. She endured both emotional and physical abuse at the hands of my father. Due to the physical abuse she underwent, she was expected to miscarry. At 17 years old with abusive parents, she had nowhere to turn. Luckily I survived and she turned her life around. My mom is a manager at a Fortune 500 company who takes great care of me and my 3 siblings. She has shown me the meaning of work ethic. But more importantly she has shown me the meaning of love.
I plan to go into Nursing School in the fall. Nursing is something that's really important to me. The career will provide a way to help others while not being stuck to a set schedule and having enough free time to pursue my various hobbies. If I won this scholarship it would mean my mom wouldn't have to go into debt paying my college tuition.
