WinnerGrowing up in a city like chicago, I faced numerous challenges that tested my resilience and determination. I was raised by a single parent, lived with my granparents, opportunities were scarce, and the odds seemed stacked against me. Yet, I refused to let my circumstances define my future.
Education became my beacon of hope so I immersed myself in books wether they were about vetrianry medicine or love stories because it was important to me to be able to useevery available moment to learn and grow. However, my path to success was riddled with obstacles. I struggled with self-doubt, mental ealth problems and societal expectations that sought to limit my potential. Troughout highscool i had a tough time balacing my personal issues, my social life, my academic career and my competative tennis career, but I persevered.
One of the turning points in my life came when I discovered my passion for vetrinary medicine. Witnessing the health disparities when it came to stray animals in my community helped me become determined to make a difference. The road to getting into my dream school was arduous, requiring countless hours of study, perseverance through setbacks, and sacrifices that tested my resolve. I faced rejections, and have had people doubt me but each one fueled my determination to prove that I was capable of overcoming any obstacle.
My journey took an unexpected turn when I decided to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). The vibrant community and rich history inspired me, and I saw it as an opportunity to contribute to a legacy of resilience and excellence. The HBCU environment provided me with a supportive network, mentorship, and a sense of belonging that fueled my determination even further because i was surrounded by people tat looked like me.
The challenges I encountered throughout my journey molded my character, instilling in me a deep sense of empathy and a commitment to addressing healthcare disparities. My experiences fueled my desire to contribute to underserved communities, ensuring that everyone, regardless of background, has access to quality healthcare.
In the end, my resilience not only propelled me into getting into being interested in vetrinary medicine as a black woman, but also led me to an HBCU where I could thrive and make a meaningful impact. The challenges I faced shaped me into a compassionate and determined individual, ready to embark on a career dedicated to healing and uplifting communities in need.
