I’m a student at Florida Gulf Coast University studying Health Science, with aspirations of becoming a Physician Assistant. My passion for healthcare stems from a deep desire to help people in a way that truly makes a difference in their lives. For me, healthcare is not just about treating a condition or writing a prescription—it’s about human connection, understanding, and service.
Growing up, I witnessed the struggles my grandfather faced battling lung cancer. I saw how the healthcare system often treated him as just another number, with limited attention given to his emotional and spiritual needs. It wasn’t the medical treatments alone that made a difference for him—it was the moments of connection, the compassionate care, and the emotional support that helped him cope with his journey. This experience shaped my belief that healthcare should never be reduced to a financial transaction or an assembly line of patients. Instead, it should focus on serving the person as a whole—physically, emotionally, and mentally.
In my time as a volunteer at Golisano Children’s Hospital and as a Resident Care Assistant, I’ve seen firsthand how important human connection is in the healing process. At the hospital, I’ve interacted with children in the PICU who are facing serious health challenges. While I wasn’t directly involved in their medical care, I felt privileged to be there to listen, to provide comfort, and to offer a sense of normalcy during incredibly stressful times. It reaffirmed my belief that service goes beyond just diagnosing and treating—it’s about being present for others, showing compassion, and offering a kind word or gesture when it’s needed most.
I believe the healthcare system often misses the mark by focusing too heavily on numbers and profits. When healthcare is reduced to a financial game, it loses sight of what truly matters: the people. I want to change that. I want to serve my community with a heart full of compassion and a deep commitment to making people feel seen and heard. The most meaningful aspect of care is not just in the treatments we administer but in the relationships we build with those we serve.
My goal is to be part of a system that values the human side of medicine just as much as the technical side. By becoming a Physician Assistant, I hope to advocate for the kind of care that addresses the whole person, not just their symptoms. I want to use my knowledge to provide not only medical treatment but also emotional support to those who are struggling. I want to offer hope to individuals who may feel neglected or unheard in a system that often prioritizes efficiency over empathy.
This work is a calling for me. The ability to serve my community, to connect with people, and to make a lasting impact on their lives is the greatest blessing I could ever imagine. That’s why I’ve chosen healthcare, and that’s the difference I want to make.
Christina Taylese Singh Memorial Scholarship
I’ve always felt a deep calling to help people, which drives my pursuit of a career in healthcare. My primary goal is to serve others by helping them enjoy life more fully—whether that’s by alleviating pain, supporting them through struggles, or just being there when they need someone. My motivation comes from personal experiences, particularly watching my grandfather battle lung cancer. Seeing him in and out of the hospital, struggling with pain and uncertainty, made me realize how essential it is to address both the physical and emotional aspects of health. His experience shaped my desire to make a tangible difference, especially for those facing health challenges that limit their quality of life.
I am particularly drawn to primary care because it’s not just about treating illnesses, but about building long-term relationships with patients and understanding their unique needs. I want to offer care that supports overall well-being and helps people live their lives to the fullest. Being a primary care provider means being a consistent presence in patients’ lives, helping them navigate health challenges and ensuring they have the resources for long-term health. By providing ongoing care, I believe I can make a lasting impact on individuals, whether it’s through managing chronic conditions or promoting preventative measures.
At the same time, I’m intrigued by emergency medicine. The fast-paced, high-stakes environment appeals to me, and I’m excited by the idea of providing urgent care for people in critical moments. I want to be there during their most challenging times, offering life-saving support and care. The opportunity to thrive under pressure and make a difference in urgent situations excites me, and I’m eager to put my skills to the test.
As I work toward becoming a Physician Assistant, I’ve gained hands-on experience through various volunteer positions. I volunteered at Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), where I witnessed the emotional and physical challenges children and their families face in critical situations. It was rewarding to provide comfort and support to these families. I’ve also worked as a Medical Assistant in a dermatology office, learning the importance of preventative care and patient education. Additionally, as a Resident Care Assistant in a nursing home, I’ve developed a deep understanding of the needs of older adults, particularly regarding mobility, medication management, and emotional well-being.
These experiences have reinforced my belief that healthcare is not only about diagnosing and treating diseases but also about creating a supportive, compassionate environment. I’ve come to appreciate how vital it is to have healthcare providers who care about the overall well-being of their patients. These roles have deepened my understanding of the challenges people face in maintaining their health and have fueled my desire to help those in need.
Whether in primary care or emergency medicine, my goal remains the same: to ease pain, support healing, and give people the chance to live without the burden of suffering. I want to understand people not just from a medical standpoint but from a human one. What excites me most is the opportunity to help people heal and live better lives. Moving forward, I am eager to apply my experiences and passion for service in the field of healthcare, whether in primary care or the emergency room. My ultimate goal is to be a healthcare provider who shows up when people need help, listens to their concerns, and works hard to help them regain their health and joy.

Understanding the nature of our universe is an endeavor that goes beyond simply acquiring knowledge—it’s a journey that involves questioning, exploring, and constantly seeking deeper truths. My fascination with the universe started with the human body and its complex functions, which led me to pursue a career as a physician assistant. However, over time, my curiosity has expanded beyond the physical aspects of life. I want to understand not just how the body works, but how the mind shapes our reality and how we, as humans, are interconnected with everything around us. This journey of discovery is something that drives me every day and shapes my path as I seek to better understand the world, not just from a medical standpoint, but from a broader, more philosophical, and psychological perspective.
As a future physician assistant, my primary focus is on health, and I find myself endlessly fascinated by the intricacies of the human body—how organs work in tandem, how disease disrupts this harmony, and how treatment can restore balance. But I’ve learned that understanding health goes far beyond just treating symptoms; it’s about understanding the person as a whole. That’s why I’ve expanded my focus to include courses in philosophy and psychology. Philosophy offers a way to delve into the big questions of existence—why are we here, what is our purpose, and how can we contribute to a greater good? Psychology, on the other hand, has given me insight into the inner workings of the mind—the driving forces behind human behavior, decision-making, and coping mechanisms. These disciplines are crucial to understanding the human condition in its entirety, and they inform how I approach healthcare with a broader and more empathetic perspective.
I’ve come to realize that healthcare isn’t just about addressing the physical body—it’s about understanding the mind, the soul, and the emotional state that all play a role in one’s overall well-being. By integrating these fields into my studies, I’m learning how to connect with patients not just through medical knowledge but through empathy and understanding. The more I learn about psychology and philosophy, the more I realize how interconnected our thoughts, emotions, and bodies are. To provide effective care, we must address not only physical ailments but also mental and emotional health. As I prepare to work with patients in the future, I want to ensure that I don’t just treat their conditions, but that I also empower them to take control of their health and well-being in a holistic way.
My curiosity doesn’t stop at the human body or the mind—it extends to our place in the world and the impact our behavior has on the universe around us. We, as human beings, have an undeniable effect on the world, both in how we shape our environments and how we relate to others. I’ve always been fascinated by the way human decisions ripple through time and space, influencing everything from our immediate surroundings to the global environment. How does our behavior shape our communities, our families, and our planet? How do our actions, even on a small scale, affect the larger world? It’s this idea that drives my passion for studying human activity—not just for the sake of knowledge, but to understand the deeper implications of our choices.
I want to make a meaningful difference in the world, and that starts with understanding how we impact the universe around us, both as individuals and as a collective society. Whether through the care I provide as a physician assistant, or by contributing to a larger understanding of the psychological and philosophical factors that influence our decisions, I want to be part of creating positive change. My desire to understand the world from multiple angles drives my passion for healthcare, but it also motivates me to think critically about the broader challenges we face as a society—issues like inequality, access to healthcare, and environmental sustainability.
At the core of my drive is a deep curiosity about human existence. I’m not just interested in healing bodies. I want to understand what it means to live, to suffer, to thrive, and to connect with others. My goal is to approach every patient with the belief that they are more than just their symptoms. I want to listen to their stories, understand their needs, and provide care that respects their entire being. At the same time, I’m continually exploring the world around me, asking questions, and seeking answers that will help me better understand our collective human experience.
The pursuit of knowledge is not just a career path for me; it’s a lifelong commitment to bettering the world around me. Whether it’s through my career as a physician assistant, my academic studies in philosophy and psychology, or my ongoing curiosity about the universe, I am driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact. I want to understand human behavior, our collective role in the world, and how we can create a better, more compassionate future for everyone. By expanding my knowledge and deepening my understanding, I hope to contribute to a future where healthcare is not just about treating illness, but about fostering overall well-being: mind, body, and spirit.
Women in Healthcare Scholarship
I’ve always been drawn to the medical field, but my passion for healthcare truly solidified when I watched my grandfather battle lung cancer. He was in and out of the hospital for years, and seeing him go through that struggle was eye-opening. It wasn’t just the physical pain he endured, but the emotional toll on him and the whole family. Watching him fight so hard inspired me to pursue a career where I could help others in a similar situation. I want to be someone who can ease pain, provide care, and help people maintain a good quality of life, especially in difficult times.
I’m currently studying Health Science at Florida Gulf Coast University with the goal of becoming a Physician Assistant. I want to specialize in primary care because it allows me to form lasting relationships with patients and truly understand their needs. In primary care, I’ll be able to see people through every stage of their lives, offering the care and attention they deserve. It’s a field that requires not only medical knowledge but also empathy, and I feel driven to be that compassionate provider who can make a difference in people's lives.
Being a woman in healthcare is especially important to me. There are still challenges for women in the field, but I believe we bring unique perspectives and skills to patient care. I’m motivated to break down any barriers that exist and encourage other women, especially those from underserved or marginalized communities, to pursue healthcare careers. Representation matters, and I want to be a role model for the next generation of women in medicine, showing them that they belong in the field.
As I continue my education and work in the medical field, I’ve faced challenges balancing my coursework with hands-on experience. But even with a busy schedule, I’ve worked as a Medical Assistant in a dermatology office and as a Resident Care Assistant in a nursing home, which has deepened my passion for healthcare. These experiences have taught me how to interact with patients in meaningful ways, whether it’s offering comfort or helping with medical tasks. I’ve learned how to be adaptable and manage my time well, skills that will serve me as a Physician Assistant.
While pursuing this degree is a challenge, especially with my heavy course load, it’s a challenge I am willing to face because I believe in the impact I can make. My journey in healthcare has just begun, but I know that it will be a lifelong commitment to helping people, learning, and making a difference in the world. Every step I take brings me closer to fulfilling my dream of serving others as a healthcare provider, and I’m determined to continue pushing forward.

My decision to pursue a career in healthcare comes from a place that’s deeply personal. My grandfather battled lung cancer for years, going through cycles of being in and out of the hospital, facing treatments that brought temporary relief but never truly fixed the pain he endured. Watching him struggle through that, I realized that healthcare is about more than just the physical symptoms—it's about addressing the emotional and psychological challenges that come with illness. Seeing him go through that suffering motivated me to want to help people in similar situations, not just by treating their conditions but by offering compassion, understanding, and support during difficult times.
That’s why I’m drawn to primary care. For me, it’s not just about treating illness when it arises, but building relationships with patients and being there for them through all stages of life. I want to be the kind of healthcare provider who offers continuity of care. Someone patients trust to be there not only when they’re sick but also to guide into staying healthy. I’ve seen firsthand how valuable it is to have someone in your corner who truly listens and cares about you as a person, not just a patient.
The way my grandfather’s healthcare providers treated him with respect and empathy left a lasting impression on me. It wasn’t just the doctors who helped him physically; it was the little things—the extra time spent answering questions, the reassurance, and the genuine care that made him feel like more than just a number. I want to be that person for my patients: someone who listens, who provides not just medical advice but also emotional support, and who empowers them to take control of their health.
As I move forward in my education and career, my ultimate goal is to become a Physician Assistant in primary care. I’m excited about the possibility of working with patients over the long term, building relationships and making a real difference in their lives. I believe in the power of prevention and the importance of forming a partnership with patients to help them lead healthier lives. Whether it’s through routine check-ups, managing chronic conditions, or just offering guidance on healthy lifestyle choices, I want to be someone who patients can rely on for both medical expertise and genuine care.
In the end, my dream is to make a lasting, positive impact on the lives of the people I serve. I want to be someone who is there for my patients in their hardest moments, who helps them manage their pain and challenges, and who works with them to improve their quality of life. Just like I watched my grandfather go through his struggles, I want to be a steady presence in the lives of others—helping them navigate their health journeys, reducing their suffering, and making their lives just a little bit easier. That’s the kind of healthcare provider I aspire to be, and it’s the reason I’m so passionate about pursuing this path.

My experiences in various healthcare settings have reinforced my decision to become a PA. Volunteering at Golisano Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit taught me how important it is to provide not only medical care but emotional support to families going through tough times. Additionally, working as a Medical Assistant in a dermatology office gave me insight into the critical role of patient education in fostering better health outcomes. These experiences have allowed me to develop strong interpersonal skills and a deep understanding of patient needs, both of which are essential for a successful career in healthcare.
What excites me most about becoming a PA is the opportunity to work in primary care. I’m passionate about the idea of building long-term relationships with patients and serving as their trusted healthcare provider. In primary care, I would have the privilege of being on the front lines, offering preventive care, addressing chronic conditions, and helping patients navigate their overall health. Jim Maxwell Memorial Scholarship
This opportunity holds significant meaning to me as it allows me to combine my passion for healthcare with my Catholic faith, which has been a cornerstone of my life. Growing up Catholic, I was taught values like compassion, empathy, and the importance of service to others. These values have guided me throughout my journey and inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare. Through my studies at Florida Gulf Coast University and my experiences volunteering, I have seen how the field of healthcare requires not only knowledge and technical skill but also a deep sense of care for people. This understanding of medicine as a practice of compassion is rooted in my faith, and I know it will continue to shape my approach to care as I work toward my goal of becoming a Physician Assistant.
Transitioning to college in Southwest Florida has been a challenging experience. Being away from home in Northern Kentucky and adjusting to a new environment was difficult at first. I struggled with loneliness and had trouble finding a sense of community. As a Catholic, I turned to my faith for guidance, trusting that God would help me through this transition. After some time, I found a religious group at school. This group became a source of friendship, support, and strength. It was a reminder that even in times of struggle, I wasn’t alone. My faith reassured me that God’s plan for me was unfolding, and that He had placed these new friends in my life for a reason.
Throughout my academic journey, I’ve faced the challenges of balancing rigorous coursework, volunteer commitments, and personal responsibilities. There were moments when I felt overwhelmed, unsure if I could keep up with the demands. But in these moments, my faith kept me grounded. I would pray for guidance, asking for the strength to overcome obstacles. I also reflected on my purpose: to help others, particularly those in underserved communities. This sense of purpose, strengthened by my faith, has kept me focused on my goals despite the difficulties I’ve encountered.
As I look ahead to my future, I’m excited to continue using my faith as a guiding force in my career. I’m deeply committed to becoming a Physician Assistant because I believe that healthcare should be about more than just treating symptoms. It’s about caring for the whole person: physically, emotionally, and spiritually. My faith reminds me that every patient is a person created in God’s image, deserving of respect and dignity. I aim to provide care that is not only scientifically sound but also compassionate and holistic, addressing the needs of the whole person.
In the future, I hope to continue using my faith to guide my interactions with patients, colleagues, and the community. I believe that faith can be a powerful tool for healing. My experiences so far—navigating the challenges of college life and volunteering in healthcare settings—have shaped me into someone who is not only knowledgeable but also empathetic and committed to making a positive difference in the world. I know that with God’s guidance, I can continue to grow and make a meaningful impact on the lives of those I serve.
Faith has been my anchor during my life, and I am confident that it will continue to lead me on my journey to becoming a compassionate healthcare provider. By staying grounded in my beliefs, I hope to bring healing and hope to those in need and continue to live out the values that have shaped my journey so far.
John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
I’ve always had a deep connection to science and a desire to use it to solve real-world problems. Growing up in Northern Kentucky, I was part of a small community where healthcare was sometimes difficult to access, and I witnessed firsthand the struggles people faced when it came to receiving the care they needed. This experience ignited my passion for healthcare and my desire to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant (PA).
At Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), where I am currently studying Health Science, I’ve deepened my understanding of medicine and healthcare systems. I’ve learned that healthcare is not just about diagnosing and treating illnesses but about forming meaningful relationships with patients and offering the support they need to live healthier lives. The more I learn about the medical field, the more I realize how much I want to be in a role like that of a PA—combining clinical expertise with patient care to make a real difference in people’s lives.
One of the driving forces behind my passion is the need for better healthcare access, particularly in underserved areas. I have always believed that quality healthcare is a basic right, and I’ve seen how much of a difference access to healthcare can make. Whether it’s my work as a Medical Assistant at a dermatology office or my volunteer experience at Golisano Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), I’ve seen firsthand how important it is for patients to feel heard, cared for, and understood. These experiences have strengthened my desire to advocate for improved healthcare systems and better access for underserved communities.
Through these roles, I’ve learned not just about medical procedures, but the impact of compassionate care. I’ve been able to listen to patients, understand their needs, and offer support that goes beyond medical treatment. Whether it's providing reassurance, explaining procedures, or just being a comforting presence, I’ve realized that healthcare is not just about treating a disease—it’s about treating the person as a whole.
As a future Physician Assistant, I want to combine the clinical expertise I’ve gained with the desire to make a difference in communities that face challenges accessing care. I plan to work in areas with limited resources, ensuring that people who need healthcare the most don’t have to go without. I aim to advocate for health equity and work to reduce disparities in care.
Ultimately, I want to be a healthcare provider who not only addresses the physical needs of my patients but also advocates for their overall well-being. I believe the skills and education I’m gaining will help me fulfill that goal, and my passion for healthcare will keep driving me to make a positive impact, both in the communities I serve and within the broader healthcare system.
NE1 NE-Dream Scholarship
I’m originally from Northern Kentucky, but right now, I’m studying at Florida Gulf Coast University in Southwest Florida. Growing up in Kentucky, I always appreciated the close-knit feel of a small community. I saw firsthand how important healthcare is, especially in areas where resources are limited, and that’s when I realized I wanted to make a difference through healthcare.
From a young age, I was drawn to science, fascinated by how it can solve real-world problems. As I got older, I realized that health science was the perfect way to combine my love for science with my desire to help others. Now, as I study Health Science at FGCU, my dream of becoming a Physician Assistant has become clearer and more meaningful. To me, becoming a PA isn’t just about having a job; it’s about serving people, improving their quality of life, and making sure they have access to the care they need, no matter where they are.
What really drives me is knowing that healthcare has the power to change lives. I’ve worked as a Medical Assistant and volunteered at places like Golisano Children’s Hospital, and in all of these experiences, I’ve seen just how important it is to listen to people. You don’t just treat their physical symptoms—you build a relationship with them, understand their needs, and offer guidance to help them improve their health. That’s the kind of care I want to provide as a Physician Assistant.
I’m especially passionate about serving in areas where healthcare is limited. Growing up in a small town, I saw how difficult it can be to get the care you need, especially if you’re in a community that doesn’t have access to many resources. That’s why I want to focus on healthcare access and health education, to make sure people know what they need to stay healthy. I believe that by improving access to care and providing education, we can make a lasting difference in people’s lives.
Fulfilling my dream of becoming a PA means everything to me. It’s about more than just treating illness; it’s about helping people live their best lives, preventing health issues before they start, and empowering them with the knowledge to take charge of their health. The journey isn’t always easy, but I’m determined to keep working toward this goal. Every class I take, every patient interaction I have, and every volunteer experience brings me closer to my dream of becoming a compassionate, skilled healthcare provider.
Ultimately, my dream is to make a real impact on healthcare—whether that’s by helping people get the care they need or advocating for better healthcare access. I’m committed to reaching that goal, and every step along the way gets me closer to making a difference.
A Man Helping Women Helping Women Scholarship
I’m currently a student at Florida Gulf Coast University, majoring in Health Science with the goal of becoming a Physician Assistant. I’ve always been passionate about helping others, especially when it comes to healthcare. Growing up, I saw firsthand how important it is to have access to medical care, and that’s something I want to make sure everyone has. Over time, I’ve realized that healthcare is not just about treating illness, but about connecting with people and giving them the tools to improve their well-being.
My passion for healthcare is also deeply rooted in my love for STEM. I’ve always been fascinated by science and how it applies to real-world problems. The idea that we can use scientific knowledge to improve people’s lives is something that truly inspires me. Through my studies in health science, I’ve been able to dive deeper into the fields of biology, chemistry, and anatomy. These subjects not only excite me but also serve as a foundation for my career goals. I believe that combining my STEM background with my desire to serve others will allow me to make a meaningful difference in healthcare.
Throughout my studies and work experiences, I’ve had the opportunity to see how impactful healthcare can be. I worked as a Medical Assistant in a dermatology office, where I assisted with medical and surgical treatments. I’ve also volunteered at Golisano Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and with Faith Community Pharmacy, where I helped prepare medications for patients in need. These experiences showed me that healthcare isn’t just about providing treatment—it’s about listening to patients, understanding their concerns, and educating them so they can make informed decisions about their health.
In addition to my clinical experience, I’ve been involved with several volunteer programs, which have given me a deeper understanding of how much care is needed in underserved communities. One of the most exciting opportunities I have coming up is with FGCU’s Global Medical Brigades, where I’ll be traveling to Belize. This trip will give me the chance to work directly with local healthcare providers in areas where people have limited access to care. I’m looking forward to learning about the different healthcare challenges these communities face and how I can help create sustainable solutions.
Looking ahead, my goal is to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives through my work as a Physician Assistant. I want to work in communities that face healthcare challenges, particularly those with limited access to care. I also want to be a resource for patients—someone who can listen to their concerns, educate them about their health, and provide them with the care they need. I believe in preventative care and want to help patients take proactive steps to stay healthy.
Ultimately, my goal is to use my skills and passion to improve healthcare access, especially for underserved populations. I want to be someone who not only provides care but also advocates for better healthcare systems and helps educate individuals about their health. Through my career, I hope to help make healthcare more accessible and create a positive impact on the lives of those I serve. I am excited to use my knowledge of STEM to fuel this mission and make a lasting difference in the world.
Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship
I plan to make a positive impact on the world by pursuing a career in healthcare, specifically as a Physician Assistant, and working to improve access to care in underserved communities. Throughout my studies in Health Science at Florida Gulf Coast University, I’ve become deeply aware of how healthcare disparities affect individuals’ lives. This awareness has motivated me to find ways to close those gaps and help provide equitable care to those in need.
One of the primary ways I want to make a difference is by serving in underserved and rural areas, where healthcare access is often limited. I’ve seen firsthand how vital it is not only to provide immediate care but also to create sustainable solutions that benefit these communities in the long run. For instance, when I travel to Belize with FGCU’s Global Medical Brigades, I’ll be working in a community with limited access to healthcare. This hands-on experience will help me better understand the challenges faced by these areas and will inform my approach to improving access to care in my future career.
In addition to direct patient care, I’m passionate about health education. I’ve realized how crucial it is for patients to understand their conditions and how to manage them. During my time volunteering at Faith Community Pharmacy, I’ve witnessed how educating patients about their medications and health choices can significantly improve their well-being. Once I become a Physician Assistant, I plan to focus on patient education. By helping people understand their health conditions and prevention strategies, I believe I can help improve outcomes and reduce the long-term cost of care.
Mental health is another issue I care deeply about. It’s often overlooked or misunderstood in healthcare, yet it’s just as important as physical health. I want to advocate for better mental health care and work toward integrating it into general healthcare services. Reducing stigma and raising awareness about mental health can improve both treatment and overall well-being. This is something I plan to prioritize in my work as a Physician Assistant.
Ultimately, my goal is to combine my clinical skills, passion for education, and commitment to helping underserved communities to make a lasting difference in healthcare. Whether it’s through direct patient care, health education, or advocating for policy change, I want to contribute to building a more accessible and equitable healthcare system. I believe that by focusing on compassionate care and long-term solutions, I can help create a healthier and more equitable world for everyone.
Women in STEM and Community Service Scholarship
I’m passionate about tackling healthcare disparities, especially in underserved communities. Through my studies in Health Science at Florida Gulf Coast University and my experiences volunteering in various healthcare settings, I’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges that lack of access to quality healthcare presents to individuals. Whether it’s in rural areas or lower-income neighborhoods, the gap in access to care can significantly impact people's health and well-being. My goal is to use my education and future career as a Physician Assistant to make a real difference in these areas.
One issue that stands out to me is the lack of healthcare in rural or economically disadvantaged regions. These areas often face barriers such as a shortage of medical professionals, inadequate infrastructure, and limited resources for basic healthcare needs. I’m particularly looking forward to my trip to Belize with FGCU’s Global Medical Brigades, where I will work alongside healthcare professionals to provide care in communities that have little to no access to medical services. This hands-on experience will deepen my understanding of how healthcare systems work in low-resource environments, and it will be invaluable as I work to serve similar communities in the future. I will also gain insight into the challenges people face when they don’t have access to basic medical care, which will inform my approach to patient care when I return home.
Locally, I’ve witnessed how healthcare disparities affect vulnerable populations. Volunteering at Golisano Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and at Faith Community Pharmacy has given me a deeper appreciation for the importance of affordable, accessible healthcare. I’ve seen how the lack of access to regular medical care can result in complications, unnecessary suffering, and delayed treatment. By participating in these roles, I’ve developed skills that will help me provide compassionate care to patients, and I’ve come to understand how vital it is for communities to have access to preventive care and education. These experiences have motivated me to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant, where I can directly contribute to improving healthcare access in underserved areas.
Mental health care is another area I am passionate about. It’s often overlooked or stigmatized, yet it’s just as important as physical health. As I move forward in my career, I want to ensure that I address both the physical and emotional needs of my patients. I believe that mental health support is crucial for overall well-being and that it should be integrated into the care I provide. The ability to support patients emotionally as well as physically will allow me to offer holistic care that addresses the whole person.
Ultimately, I want to use my skills and education to address healthcare disparities and contribute to creating a more equitable and accessible healthcare system. Whether it’s through direct patient care or advocating for better healthcare policies, I believe that by focusing on compassionate care, preventive education, and addressing both physical and mental health needs, we can make a real, lasting impact on the health of underserved communities. This mission will guide me throughout my career, and I’m excited to take the lessons I learn from my international and local experiences and apply them to create a better healthcare future for everyone.

Microscopes are one of those inventions that have truly changed the way we see the world—literally. Whether it’s a basic microscope in a classroom or a high-tech version used in labs, they let us explore the tiny details of life that we’d never notice otherwise. It’s incredible how something so simple can have such a massive impact on science, medicine, and even the environment.
In healthcare, microscopes are essential. They’ve made it possible to spot bacteria, viruses, and other tiny things that cause diseases. Doctors and scientists can use them to figure out what’s going wrong in the body and come up with treatments. More advanced microscopes even let researchers watch cells move and interact, which has been huge in understanding things like cancer and how to fight it.
Microscopes also play a big role in protecting the environment. Scientists use them to study water and soil, track pollution, and learn how ecosystems work on a microscopic level. This helps us find better ways to protect natural resources and improve sustainability.
What’s really cool about microscopes, though, is how they inspire curiosity. Looking through one for the first time is unforgettable—it’s like seeing a whole new world. It’s not just a tool for scientists; it’s a way to make people wonder about how things work, which is where all great discoveries start.
Microscopes might seem like just another piece of lab equipment, but their impact is huge. They help us solve problems, protect our planet, and spark ideas for the future. It’s proof that even the smallest things can make a big difference.
Mind, Body, & Soul Scholarship
My personal philosophy is that we need to understand the “why” before we have any chance of understanding the “how.” Why is something being asked, why is it being done? Those are the type of questions that need to be understood before we know “how” to respond. I try to live by this concept.
My introspection has grown out of my experiences and my interactions with others. I’ve learned that as we live, we tend to march through our various tasks, responsibilities, and obligations with little introspection. Life becomes relegated to checking off boxes on a checklist, but if we pause to think about why we are doing something and if we participate in our experiences, life becomes much more complex. The sheer complexity of people doesn’t allow for only one true answer. I use the concept of "optimistic nihilism" as a reason to live life to the fullest because life ultimately has no single, universal purpose. It is different for everyone. Personally, I've learned that to live without regret and to pursue passions is a life well spent. That revelation has affected how I plan to achieve my ambitions and goals. If my perception of the world around me is how I will experience it, I will choose to make every moment worthwhile. I don’t have one guiding purpose, but I have the power to take what I can control and do good with it.
I turned this lesson into how I live my daily life and started to take initiative in the world around me. I go out into my community and assist where I am needed. For me, I have discovered that I find happiness in helping others- this is my “why.” While I was discovering my “why,” I was testing the waters for my interests. I would not be who I am today without the supportive environment around me. It is all my experiences and my acceptance of them all coming together that make me the person that I am. For me, fully embracing life- the good, the bad, and the uncertain is what inspires me. I enjoy the interactions with people around me because they help to define my understanding of life, they make me feel alive, curious, and wanting to know more. By finding my “why” I discovered what I want to do with my “how.” Through using my realization, I strive to impact the ones around me to make a difference, to make the world a better place. College comes into the equation because it can give me different experiences to help me achieve my goals and live the life I want. It also provides new opportunities for me to give back, help, and provide support where needed on campus or in the community. It is my “how.” I help people now, but I want to expand on that. I dream of working as a physician associate (PA) in psychiatry and being able to be effective in the everyday parts of life that we often forget about but can often prove to be so important. I’ve seen people at all stages of life and have watched their cognitive abilities grow from birth. In psychiatry, I can play critical leadership roles in mental health and primary care. Psychiatry touches on different principles like philosophy but also endocrinology. It is a practice that requires subtlety and skill in using the concepts of empathy and introspection, (which are ideas that I excel in). I plan to use these skills to help others discover their own revelations.

My life goal is to use my talents and abilities to their fullest. I plan to study psychology and biology in college and work as a Physician Assistant in psychiatry. My biggest motivation for my future is to be in a position where I can really help people and be the change in people's lives. I know what therapy has done for me and I want to help others in the same way. I believe that life experiences (good and bad) not only shape who we are, but they change how we think and view the world in both big and small ways.
I'm most passionate about making a difference in my community. I thrive off of positivity and seeing the best in every situation, so I naturally feel a connection to these topics. During covid my family needed some help and I know how important and meaningful it was for us to know that people cared. This was a life changing experience for me and my family. Because of this, I search out and work towards making positive differences in all that I do.
Currently I am an Ambassador and Junior Board Member with Go Pantry (selected by interview), an organization which advocates against hunger. I also created a community-wide service organization in collaboration with other local schools where we combined our activities and efforts to collect school supplies for the flood victims in Eastern Kentucky. We plan to do several different projects together throughout the year.
Another subject that is close to my heart is the topic of inclusion and bullying. At my school I am a founding member of the Orientation and Mentor Team. We work toward positive culture change with team building and relationship building within the school. This is what I love to do, it makes me feel whole. Activities such as this will always be apart of my life. I've seen the damage that bullying and not feeling included can do. No student should ever have to endure this type of treatment. This has been a topic of awareness lately, but so much more needs to be done. Children need to see the results of their actions. Teachers and school administration need to be more aware and intervene very quickly. Parents of all involved need to be made aware of situations.
For the last year I have worked part time in a Senior Living Community. I do get paid for this position. I love the interaction with the residents and the meaningful conversations that I have had. Working there has given me a new insight and perspective on how I see things. Working there is a wonderful experience.
I am a great candidate because I am a reliable and extremely dedicated person and I own my actions. I do this by striving to not only do my absolute best work, but by always going above and beyond what is expected.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share who I am and to share my story.
