I have had big dreams
my whole life. As a college student, I was very hard
working then while maintaining a full-time, and part-time job, along with a full-time course-load. I
guess you could say I have always been hungry for more. I left Wilmington due to my father getting
sick but thankfully that time he recovered. I was blessed with the
opportunity to take my career to new heights. I became a flight attendant but retired my wings in 2015 when I gave birth to my 'healthy' beautiful baby girl on
June 18th. During the first 24 hours, I noticed something was wrong and not long after several attempts to get the nurses and doctors to listen that something was wrong
with my newborn, she was rushed from the Outer Banks Hospital to the Kings Daughters' Hospital
of Virginia. We were there for less than 18 hours before placed
on a med flight to the CHOP, a hospital and abbreviation I had
never heard of. I had no issues during my pregnancy, giving birth, or after the delivery. I
would later learn that my daughter was born with a rare genetic disorder, hyperinsulinemia. At the time we resided with her father, Jason Sadler,
and at some point, in our relationship we grew apart in a very negative way. I encouraged a relationship for her father and her,
going as far as dropping my DVO for a custody order and traveling to Disney getaway to reunite with her father, until I
was left stranded in Richmond Hills, GA. I was finally picked
up my mother, the next day, and contemplated suicide if he didn't bring my daughter back that
Sunday afternoon.
That next Monday, I lost custody of my daughter. The month before, 9 days before Christmas, I lost
my dad to a massive heart attack.
2 years later, my daughter lost her father to brain cancer and despite our differences, I still loved that
man because he gave me the greatest gift of all, Saylor.
I had no contact with Saylor from 2017-2021, and due to Saylor being
disabled and our housing situation, I lost that as well.
I turned to drugs to cope with the misery I was living in, because I just couldn't understand how.
Fast forward to 2020, I was on probation, I was sentenced by
courts to attend inpatient rehabilitation treatment, which I completed and lost another man I loved to this addiction. I came home, overdosed and the courts sent me back to Charlotte but with special conditions. I successfully completed the program in June of
2021. I enrolled at Central Piedmont Community
College in Fall of 2021 and really impressed myself. My first semester in college, I made the Dean's
List and the President's List the next semester, and every semester after that. I obtained an associate's in applied science, with a 3.903 GPA, and Associates of Arts, with a 3.769 GPA. I
regained custody of my daughter on April 24, 2024.
I applied to East Carolina
University, and got accepted into the online Criminal Justice Bachelors program. I
just completed my first set of fast -paced courses and currently have a 3.85 GPA, while maintaining
a full-time job as a personal injury paralegal, keeping Saylor active in ballet and gymnastics, and
importantly, out of trouble.
My past paints a picture of my life that was filled with darkness and now I am the light to show
others the way.
My name is Brittany Moore, and I am a recovering addict. Thank you for your time and
consideration.
