PROFESSIONAL ASPIRATIONS
I am a first-generation college student from the U.S. Virgin Islands who aspires to be a physician advocating for my future patients and minority populations.
Starting in July, I will be a medical student at Case Western Reserve University. I am passionate about improving human health through holistic patient care, scientific discovery, and establishing health equity in the United States. Additionally, I am actively working towards establishing community-based nutrition and health education programs to reduce health disparities and the prevalence of cardiovascular disease, especially in underserved populations.
FAVORITE PASTIME
I would describe myself as a ‘foodie’ at heart; I enjoy immersing myself in food from other cultures. However, taking those same dishes and creating them from home with no formal training - is by far one of my favorite hobbies! Although many cooking styles require multiple technical steps and discipline, I thrive off the challenge. Every Sunday, I attempt a new dish, which usually does not turn out well. However, by failing, I learn new approaches to better prepare the meal for next time. My most stunning and successful dish was a grilled salmon paired with cauliflower puree, rainbow swiss chard, and a lemon beurre blanc.
My ultimate dream is to travel to all 7 continents and try food from different countries! I believe that food is more than something we eat; it is a way of sharing bits and pieces of who we are and where we come from. I also hope to share my Caribbean heritage through my culinary skills!
