I am passionate about children. I believe in fighting for the rights of children who are unable to speak for themselves, especially those who have been harmed or mistreated in some way. I have advocated for the children in my personal life and am on my way to completing my degree to do so professionally. Every child deserves to know that they are important and they matter.
“Children are one third of our population and all of our future.”

Harvey and Geneva Mabry Second Time Around Scholarship
Continuing the Legacy of Determination
This essay encouraged me to think about the winding road that led me to this point. It is a journey marked by failures and successes. It is a story of tenacity, backed by an unwavering belief that education opens the door to a brighter future. I am thrilled to apply for the Harvey and Geneva Mabry Scholarship because it allows me to honor Mrs. Mabry's legacy of perseverance. Mr. Mabry's dedication inspires me to embrace my educational aspirations, knowing that anything is possible with the proper support.
In 2008, I began pursuing higher education, full of aspirations and goals for the future. However, my path was disrupted by stress and personal issues, preventing me from reaching the finish line. Regardless of the setbacks, I refused to let them define me. I made numerous brave attempts to restart my educational career, only to face roadblocks. Nevertheless, three years into returning to school, I can see the glimmer of a finish line. I'm too close to stop now.
My grandmother's love for children motivated me to return to school. Inspired by her foster parenting, I discovered my true calling: to become a teacher. I believe that education is a strong catalyst for change and so did my grandmother. She fought to get her foster children into better schools and encouraged them to pursue their dreams. Although my grandmother died before I graduated, her legacy lives on within me. As I navigate this academic journey, I take her principles of love, compassion, and resilience with me. As a teacher, I strive to create an emotionally safe and loving environment where all students can flourish and reach their full potential.
Returning to school has been a life-changing experience for me, both academically and personally. It required a great deal of work, sacrifice, and perseverance. Every day, I get up with a newfound drive to tackle the trials ahead since I know the finish line is in sight. The skills and knowledge I gained during my studies have fueled my desire to educate the future generation.
Harvey Mabry and Geneva Mabry Scholarships represent more than just financial support; they represent an opportunity to celebrate their extraordinary legacy while building my path to a better tomorrow. Receiving the Harvey and Geneva Mabry Scholarship would be a tremendous honor and would give important assistance as I near the end of my school journey.
Wellness Warriors Scholarship
Hectic schedules, academic pressures, and responsibilities often define the college experience. In this fast-paced environment, students must prioritize their health. Students can effectively manage their well-being and enhance their college experience by incorporating mindfulness and joyful movement.
Mindfulness is the practice of being present at the moment without judgment. It involves focusing on thoughts, feelings, and surroundings. It can be achieved through meditation, mindful eating, and gratitude journaling. Meditation reduces stress, improves concentration, and promotes emotional well-being. Mindfulness meditation involves being present and non-judgmentally aware of thoughts, feelings, and sensations in the present moment. Focusing on breath, bodily sensations, or a specific object cultivates a deep sense of presence and acceptance. Regular practice helps students develop a heightened awareness of their mental processes, enabling them to respond more skillfully to challenging situations. Many meditation apps, podcasts, and videos guide students through the process.
Mindful eating helps individuals become more aware of their body's hunger and satiety cues, enabling them to respond to their nutritional needs more effectively. This awareness prevents mindless overeating or undereating, allowing for adequate nourishment. Mindful eating promotes a non-judgmental attitude towards food, allowing individuals to let go of restrictive or guilt-inducing thoughts. By focusing on pleasure and satisfaction from eating, individuals can develop a healthier relationship with food, free from negative emotions or disordered eating patterns.
Gratitude journaling is a powerful practice involving expressing gratitude for your existence's positive aspects. It is a simple yet transformative activity that can considerably contribute to college student's health and academic success. By taking a few minutes each day to contemplate and record what you are grateful for, you can cultivate a positive outlook, shift your attention to the present, and foster a greater sense of well-being. When I am exhausted and feel like giving up, I head to my gratitude journal. It has lifted me countless times and put things into perspective.
Joyful movement is a concept that encourages individuals to engage in physical activities that bring joy, pleasure, and a sense of well-being. It emphasizes finding activities that nourish the mind, body, and spirit, resulting in numerous benefits, including improved physical health, enhanced mood, increased motivation, and greater well-being. Joyful movement activities can be personalized and enjoyable, encompassing various activities that align with individual interests, preferences, and passions. Individuals are more likely to exercise regularly and maintain a positive attitude towards physical activity by choosing activities that bring joy.
College life often comes with high-stress levels, academic pressure, and various responsibilities. Engaging in joyful movement provides an outlet for stress relief and emotional release, as physical activity stimulates the release of endorphins, which are natural mood enhancers. When I feel stressed, I go for a long walk or dance until I cannot anymore. It does not feel like a workout but a reset.
Joyful movement activities offer opportunities for social connection and community, such as joining sports teams, attending fitness classes, or participating in group activities. These activities promote positive relationships, reduce feelings of isolation, and provide a sense of camaraderie and shared experiences, ultimately enhancing overall well-being.
Managing one's health in college is essential in determining a student's academic success. By incorporating mindfulness and joyful movement practices, students can enhance their overall well-being, reduce stress, and boost their academic performance. Nurturing these habits fosters a positive and balanced lifestyle that promotes physical, mental, and emotional health, equipping students to overcome obstacles, maintain concentration, and flourish in their efforts. Students may reach their maximum potential by prioritizing personal wellness and laying the groundwork for long-term success and fulfillment.

Pursuing a fulfilling career is fundamental to our lives, shaping our identity, well-being, and overall happiness. However, the journey toward a fulfilling career is often riddled with challenges and uncertainties. As a college junior pursuing a child studies degree, I understand the significance of choosing a career that aligns with my goals and values. The Career Search Scholarship provides an invaluable opportunity for students like myself to actively explore potential career paths, empowering us to make informed choices that will profoundly impact our lives.
College life provides numerous opportunities for self-discovery and career exploration. As a college junior seeking a degree in child studies, I have looked at numerous prospective employment routes which align with my interests and goals.
I have immersed myself in my studies to learn more about child development, education, and well-being. This has inspired me to make a positive difference in the lives of children and their families. I am considering becoming a child psychologist. By assisting children in overcoming their emotional and psychological obstacles, I can contribute to their overall well-being and enable them to lead fulfilling lives.
Another career path that has caught my attention is an educational consultant. By applying my background, I could collaborate with educators, parents, and policymakers to design educational systems that cater to the specific requirements of children. This career path would enable me to cultivate environments conducive to learning, growth, and personal development while effecting significant educational change.
The well-being and safety of children have always held a special place in my heart. I am considering a career as a child advocate for this reason. By working with organizations dedicated to protecting and advocating for children's rights, I can be a voice for those who frequently go unheard. This career path would allow me to combat injustices, advocate for policies that promote the well-being of children, and ensure their access to quality healthcare, education, and opportunities for a brighter future.
I am eager to investigate these possibilities further. By pursuing these paths, I can create a positive and lasting impact, leaving a legacy of empowerment, growth, and well-being for future generations.
Texas Women Empowerment Scholarship
Texas, which boasts a wealth of historical and cultural diversity, is plagued by a persistent gender disparity that hinders women's progress and equitable treatment. As an African American female student pursuing a degree in education, I am personally motivated to tackle this disparity. Alarming data on the underrepresentation of women in Texas' executive offices and the wage gap between men and women show that reform is desperately needed. Even in a primarily female field like teaching, female teachers make less than our male counterparts. Through my education and future career, I wish to truly make a difference and work toward a Texas where women are fairly represented and compensated in all fields.
Education is a powerful tool that transforms lives and dismantles barriers. As an aspiring educator, I am dedicated to promoting gender equality within the classroom. I will help my students learn the skills they need to overcome any problems that might arise by giving them direction, support, and encouragement. I will try to make my classroom a safe and friendly place where everyone's voice, regardless of gender, is recognized and valued. By encouraging all students to build self-confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of self-worth, I also encourage young girls to know their dreams are worth fighting for.
Educators are tasked with combating gender stereotypes and prejudices as one of their primary responsibilities. By designing a curriculum that values inclusivity and encourages critical thinking, I hope to foster an atmosphere where students learn to challenge societal norms and discriminatory practices. The goal is to inspire a generation to see the value in women's contributions to society and for us to rise against the unfair treatment of women all over the globe.
Promoting gender equality, empowering young women, and combating gender stereotypes in the classroom are small pieces of a giant puzzle. We can all work toward a Texas where gender equality is the norm, not only through advocacy, but by arming young minds with the knowledge, skills, and empathy required to combat gender disparities. We can all work toward a better, more equitable future, no matter what we do for a living or background. We have made huge strides in equality over the last sixty years, but we have so much farther to go. Let us make a world where everyone, no matter what gender they are, has the same chance to thrive. I truly believe that it will lead us to a more fair and equitable society.

Throughout my journey, I have faced numerous hardships, which have only fueled my determination to create positive change. In this essay, I will delve into my life-changing experience with education, my unwavering commitment to tackling the lack of quality education for marginalized children, and the resilience I have cultivated in the face of adversity. By sharing my story, I hope to inspire others to embrace education as a catalyst for personal growth and effect meaningful societal change.

I have actively sought out opportunities to contribute to the cause, such as volunteering at local organizations that provide educational support to underprivileged students. Regardless of financial status, every child deserves access to a high-quality education. Marginalized children deserve an education that will help them succeed, one that contributes to closing the educational gap perpetuating social inequality.

Empowering Black Millennials: Social Advocacy
My experiences with discrimination and systemic barriers based on my skin color have driven me to stand up to these injustices and work toward lasting change. I pursued an Education degree after realizing the transformative force of education. Through this journey, I investigated how education can serve as a catalyst for addressing racial inequality and advancing social justice.
My first Black teacher was in the fourth grade. It took five years of schooling before I saw someone who looked like me! Knowing how influential Ms. Williams was for me made me think of how my peers felt seeing her. Like me, I'm sure she was some of my peers' firsts too. Representation matters and helps break down stereotypes; it humanizes us all. Just little ol' me in a classroom is revolutionary, and I take that seriously.
Recognizing that education has the power to transform minds and lives, I will strive to build an inclusive and empowering classroom environment. By facilitating conversations that delve into racial and ethnic issues, I can promote empathy, understanding, and the dismantling of stereotypes. Our differences make us unique and can bring us together. By incorporating diverse perspectives, histories, and cultures into the curriculum, I wish to promote a comprehensive understanding of the world and foster racial and ethnic appreciation.
I want to work closely with marginalized youth, providing them mentorship, guidance, and support. Ideally, I will inspire these young individuals, helping them recognize their potential and develop the necessary skills to navigate societal barriers. By equipping them with education and knowledge, I aim to break the cycle of inequality and empower the next generation to create positive change in their communities.
In addition to advocating for racial equality, I am eager to work with educators and administrators to develop inclusive policies and practices that celebrate diversity, foster cultural understanding, and provide safe spaces for all students. I intend to create a learning environment where each student feels valued and respected.
By fighting for diverse classrooms, equal education opportunities, and the advancement of underprivileged youth, I intend to positively contribute to the world. I will dedicate my time and knowledge to fight for an equal and just world with all its members equipped with the knowledge, empathy, and passion to drive lasting change. Education is a powerful instrument that can combat prejudice, promote critical thinking, and foster a sense of belonging in all people.

Overcoming the Burden: A Strategic Approach to Tackling My Student Loan Debt
As a motivated and driven student, I am intimately familiar with the stress of having student loan debt. I have over $30,000 of debt that is constantly in the back of my head. To soothe some of my anxiety, I have created a detailed strategy to take care of both my present and future student loan debts because I am aware of the potential effects it may have on my future financial security. I want to eliminate this weight and open the door to a prosperous and debt-free future by combining careful money management, proactive research, and wise decision-making.
I have adopted a disciplined approach to personal finance to successfully handle my student loan debt. Setting up a reasonable budget and carefully following it is essential. I allot a sizeable amount of my money toward monthly loan payments by properly analyzing my income and expenses. This careful financial management allows me to regularly fulfill my responsibilities while minimizing unneeded spending.
A major goal of mine is to maximize my earning potential so that I can improve my current salary and set aside more money for debt repayment. In addition to assisting me in lowering the principal debt, this proactive strategy will also help me reduce the total interest accumulated over time.
I'm commited to properly investigating and reviewing each and every repayment plan and program that is offered. I ensure that my monthly payments are affordable and aligned with my financial capacity by utilizing income-driven repayment choices.
As I progress through my academic career, I have become increasingly more conscious of accruing too much debt in the form of more student loans. I want to lessen my dependency on loans to ensure that I finish with the least debt by actively seeking grants and scholarships. Each month, I apply to at least five scholarships and one grant and this schedule keeps me dedicated to minimizing my debt.
I frequently contact counselors for student loans and financial planning. Their knowledge is n essential resource for me as I seek to find future refinancing possibilities, stay current on changes to loan policies, and, if required, consolidate my debts.
Reducing current and future student loan debt requires a complex strategy that includes money management, thorough research, and strategic decision-making. I am confident that I can successfully get out from under the weight of student loan debt by carefully following a budget, making the most of my earning potential, and researching different payback and forgiveness alternatives. I intend to pave the way to a debt-free future and lay a strong foundation for my professional and personal goals with unshakable perseverance and a dedication to good financial practices.
