Bio

I am pursuing a career in sports medicine. My goal is to help children find an outlet and passion in life. I am currently a walk on track and field at Prairie View A & M University. To some, running is something anyone can do and takes no athletic ability, but to me running takes a specific type of discipline. To compete, maintain your best shape, and not to mention the mental toll it can take is indescribable. It forces me to put my all into my work and to stay determined. This gave me drive and discipline. I sometimes doubted my ability, but I learned to not be scared of failure. Failure is inevitable, but what mattered was that I put the work in and it showed. Every day I strive to lead by example. Being the oldest of five children I had many eyes on me. My family is one of the main reasons I am pursuing a degree in kinesiology. Using my degree, I can coach and teach underprivileged kids who have the heart and determination to be a part of something bigger than themselves. I am currently involved in an organization focused on mentoring high school students and this has driven me to one-day open youth centers around the U.S. for at-risk students. I know that this degree will prepare me for this journey. I intend to use my knowledge to empower others through learning. If I can help someone in need, it would not only be beneficial to them but to me and my family included. Because I will be a first-generation black college student, my siblings will see that the impossible can be done and my family will be proud of me.

In the future, I would like to pursue a career in sports medicine. Whether this is coaching or athletic training, my goal is to help children find an outlet and passion in life. I am currently a walk on track and field at Prairie View A & M University. I had been running for most of my life but I didn’t get the right exposure for recruitment. To some, running is something anyone can do and takes no athletic ability, but to me running takes a specific type of discipline. To compete, maintain your best shape, and not to mention the mental toll it can take is indescribable. Running has drastically changed my mentality for the better. It forces me to put my all into my work and to stay determined. This gave me the drive and discipline to meet my goal and make the team. In the back of my mind was doubt. I was doubting myself and my athletic ability. But I learned to not be scared of failure. Failure is inevitable, but what mattered was that I put the work in and it showed. The process of making the team was not easy. Every practice I vomited and struggled, but these things showed me that I have the heart and determination to continue. Every day I strive to lead by example. This was instilled in me at a young age. Being the oldest of five children I had many eyes on me. This is what I want to show the people who look up to me; a failure is minor and will ultimately lead to success. I know that this degree and college experience will prepare me for this journey. I intend to use my knowledge to empower others through learning. If I can help someone in need, it would not only be beneficial to them but to me and my family included. Because I will be a first-generation black college student, I will break the cycle of black children not attending college. My siblings will see that the impossible can be done and my family will be proud of me.
