I am going into the automotive mechanic field because I have always loved cars and working on them. I have been working on lawnmowers, weed whackers, snow blowers, and anything else with an engine and reselling them for a profit since I was 11. I got into fixing cars when I was 14 and since then I have not stopped working on them. I have done many repairs such as replacing starters, engines, transmissions, fuel pumps, throttle bodies, power steering pumps, drive shafts, and suspension work. I have also done general maintenance such as changing oil, filters, tires, spark plugs, batteries, and more All of this was done in the Midwest so everything was rusted onto the cars. I have never worked in a real shop this was all done on a driveway. So I am looking forward to getting experience in a real shop so I can have all the tools I need to get the job done.
Once I get the experience I need in trade school and working in the automotive field my goal is to open a shop so people can get better and cheaper service for their cars than they would from a dealership. Because most dealerships will scam you out of money by pretending that things are broken that are not. I think that everyone should get fair treatment and not get scammed.
Techs of Tomorrow Automotive Scholarship by ServiceUp
I want to go into the automotive mechanic field because I have loved cars for most of my life. I
want to get into drag racing, and drifting among others. Because of that going into the automotive field would allow me to have the skills I need to build the cars I would need and repair them when they break and alter things in my build so I can prevent it from happening again. I am on my way to that because I have been working on and reselling mowers, weed whackers, snowblowers, and anything else with an engine for at least 4 years. However, I need the experience that I would get from trade school and working in the automotive field. Then about 2 years ago I started working on cars, and trucks. Since then I have fixed many things on my vehicle and other people's. Such as replacing a power steering pump, a starter. a drive shaft, a transmission, an engine, and suspension work. And all of this was done in the midwest on older cars and trucks so everything is rusted in place. I have also done general maintenance such as oil changes, tire replacements, battery replacements, filter replacements, and others. I have never had a proper shop so I am looking forward to the opportunity to get shop experience so I can have all the tools I need to repair anything that I need to. I am a very eager learner, and excited to be able to expand the skills, and knowledge that I have acquired.
Because of the lack of people going into the automotive field I want to make it cheaper and faster for people to get their cars fixed. I have been doing side hustles for years so that made it one of my goals to open a shop so that once I get more experience in the automotive field to have the ability to open a shop. So I can help people get their cars fixed faster and for less money and for mechanics to have a better reputation. I want to be able to educate people on what is wrong with their cars and how to avoid that problem in the future. Because the majority of shops are unfair and will try to scam you out of money. By claiming that things were broken that were not. I believe that shops should be fair and not try to scam people out of money.
Tim Williams Automotive Student Scholarship
I am applying for this scholarship so I can pursue an automotive mechanic career. The reason I want to go into the automotive field is because I have had an interest in cars and trucks for my entire life. Because of that, I got into small engines 5 years ago. During that time I fixed and resold lawnmowers, snowblowers, weed whackers, go-kart engines, and other items for a profit
but still a fair price so people could get a good deal on what they needed. That got me wanting to start fixing cars, so when I got my first truck I tried to fix whatever broke on it. So far I have replaced the power steering pump, worked on the serpentine belt, replaced the starter, adjusted the idle, and cleaned the throttle body. I have also done general maintenance such as oil changes, replacing filters, changing batteries, and more. On other cars I have worked on I have helped swap a transmission, do an engine swap, fix a drive shaft, and do suspension work. I have never worked in a shop so I am looking forward to being able to have shop experience, so I can see what it will be like in the real world where I have all the tools that I need to do any job that needs to be done. I might not have a ton of experience but I am a hard worker, and very enthusiastic, and want to learn as much as I can about this field and about working on cars and trucks. After I get the experience I need in trade school and working in the automotive field, my goal is to build a business by opening my own shop.
Because of the lack of people going into this field, I hope to make it cheaper and faster for people to get their cars fixed, and have an overall better experience while at the shop. Most mechanics will try to scam people and claim that a part of their car is broken but it is not. My goal is for mechanics to have a better reputation, and to help people not get scammed out of their money. By being honest with them and telling them what is wrong with their car and how to avoid the problem in the future. By doing this people will get out of the shop quicker and it will cost them less. I want to do this so they will trust me and come back again.
