My career goal is to find my niche in the field of Environmental Science and policy. My main focus is on ocean conservation and how I can protect parts of the ocean and land that are being destroyed. Now that I have a solid two years at Citrus College, I have decided to pursue a B. A in Environmental Science instead of a B.S. as I had originally planned when I first enrolled at Citrus College. The reason for this change was the amount of time I have been taking action within the community by organizing clean-ups at the beach, local cities, and several skate parks. This inspiration started in 2018 when I was at the beach with some friends. A young boy was going around and picking up trash while he was with his family, this sparked the idea to organize beach clean-ups. After that day I started noticing more trash in my neighborhood and decided to put my rollerskates on I grabbed a trash bag and started cleaning my street. This became a weekly habit and soon I started my Breezecleanup Instagram page which was a sort of "trash diary" for me to share with the community. Since then I have hosted three annual beach clean-ups that are much needed in our beaches. My passion for preserving the environment started when I was 6 years old, so it's no surprise that I still have the passion to conserve and protect this planet while I am here. Now that I have only a few core classes left, I feel more ready than ever to continue my education in Environmental science. I plan on transferring to Cal State Long Beach if all goes as planned. I also plan on continuing to make a positive impact in my community with a degree to back me up as well. Some challenges I have had to overcome are leaving an abusive household that my son and I were in. It was in the middle of the pandemic and we needed to leave our home in the midst of COVID. Thankfully in July of 2020, we have been living in a safe place ever since. Fall semester of 2021 I decided to give college another try (my first attempt was after high school in 2013.) School was very difficult for me growing up because I was moved 6 times from kindergarten through fifth grade along with being homeless with my mom and sister. It was difficult for me to focus and my confidence was diminished before I could even develop it. Thankfully, I have been doing amazing in college almost 10 years later this second time around. I almost convinced myself that I was just not "smart enough", I now know my worth and I have maintained an amazing GPA that I am still so proud of. I now understand that I have a different type of learning style and I need a more visual approach to understand a subject thoroughly.
