Hello, I'm Breanna. I was born in Jamaica, before migrating to the U.S and I am a first-generation student! I was Central High's Class of '22 Senior Class President. I attend the University of South Florida as a psychology major with a criminology minor.
I decided to pursue an education in psychology to work toward de-stigmatizing mental illness and therapy. I wish to help families of color overcome the challenges posed by generational trauma. I have set out to become a psychiatrist and specialize in family therapy. Not only am I passionate about mental health, but I also am dedicated to social activism and desire to make strides toward racial and gender equality. I am dedicated to bringing change into spaces that lack inclusivity and creating safe spaces for underrepresented people.
When I am not spending time with friends and family, I let my creativity run wild! I love fashion, music, and creating content on social media. I have a YouTube channel and active Instagram page where I post fashion, lifestyle content. I have goals to travel the world, experience new things, and meet amazing people! I enjoy dedicating myself to my friends, family, and community. They are my biggest motivations.
My favorite quote is: “Just when the caterpillar thought the world was ending, he turned into a butterfly.” As a person with anxiety, this anonymous proverb inspires me to embrace my feelings instead of shutting myself down.

Lauren Czebatul Scholarship
Volunteering has had a significant impact on my mindset in a number of ways. One of the most significant changes that I have noticed is an increased sense of empathy and compassion. By volunteering and working with people who are facing challenges and difficulties, I have come to understand more fully the struggles that many people face on a daily basis and the ways in which small acts of kindness and generosity can make a big difference in their lives.
In addition to increasing my empathy and compassion, volunteering has also helped me to see the world in a different way. By working with people from different backgrounds and cultures, I have come to understand the diversity and complexity of the world around me, and I have gained a deeper appreciation for the ways in which we are all interconnected.
Volunteering has helped me to develop a greater sense of purpose and meaning in my life. By giving back and helping others, I have found that I am more fulfilled and satisfied with my life, and that I am more motivated to make a positive impact in the world. Through my experiences volunteering, I have developed a greater sense of gratitude and appreciation for what I have. By working with people who are facing challenges or struggles, I have been reminded of how fortunate I am and how much I have to be thankful for. This has helped me to cultivate a more positive and grateful mindset.
Finally, volunteering has also helped me to develop a greater sense of connection and community. By working with others to address common challenges and goals, I have been able to build relationships and find a sense of purpose and belonging.
I need this scholarship financially because I am facing significant financial challenges in pursuing my education. Despite working part-time and applying for financial aid and scholarships, I am still struggling to cover all of my educational expenses. I worry about being able to afford the costs of tuition, housing, and other necessities.
Receiving this scholarship would be a tremendous help to me and would allow me to focus on my studies without the added stress and worry of financial insecurity. It would also allow me to take advantage of opportunities that I might otherwise be unable to afford, such as studying abroad or participating in research projects. It would be rewarding to take some of the financial pressure off of my mother, who is covering all the costs of my education during my academic terms. My mother brought me to America in hopes of providing me with the best education. Taking this pressure off her would be the best way of saying thank you to her.
Finally, receiving this scholarship would be a vote of confidence in my potential and my ability to succeed, and it would encourage me to work even harder to achieve my academic and career goals.
Overall, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship, and I hope that you will consider my application and the financial challenges that I am facing as you make your decision.
Goobie-Ramlal Education Scholarship
As a college-bound student of an immigrant family, I have had the unique experience of growing up with a deep appreciation for the opportunities and freedoms that education can provide. My mother, who immigrated to the United States from Jamaica, always stressed the importance of education and hard work. She has instilled in me a belief that anything is possible with dedication and determination. Every day, I make sure to succeed in proving her right.
My parent's belief in the power of education to transform lives and to create positive change in the world has allowed me to value hard work and determination and see education as a means to creating a better life for myself and for those around me. My experience so far has been incredibly rewarding and has given me a deep appreciation for education.
Growing up in an immigrant family has also given me a deeper understanding of the challenges and barriers that many people face in pursuit of their goals and dreams. I have seen the struggles that my parents and many others have faced in order to provide and create a better life for themselves and their loved ones. Despite these challenges, my parents have always been unwavering in their support of my education and my dreams. They have sacrificed much in order to provide me with the opportunity to attend college and pursue my goals. I am deeply grateful for their love, encouragement, and support. I am determined to make the most of this opportunity. In the future, I hope to use my education and my experiences to help others who are facing similar challenges and barriers. I believe that by working to promote access to education and to create opportunities for those who may not otherwise have them, I can make a positive difference in the world.
I plan on making a positive impact on the world through my experience and education by using my skills and knowledge to help others and address some of the most pressing challenges and issues facing our world today.
One way that I hope to make a positive impact is by using my education in psychology and criminology to help people who are struggling with mental health issues or who have been affected by crime and violence. I believe that by working to improve access to mental health resources and by advocating for policies that address the root causes of crime, I can make a positive difference in the lives of many people.
In addition to using my education to help others, I also plan on making a positive impact through my involvement in community service and activism. I believe that by getting involved in my community and working to address issues such as poverty, inequality, and social justice, I can help to create a better world for all.
Finally, I believe that by staying open-minded and curious, and by continuing to learn and grow throughout my life, I can make a positive impact on the world by sharing my knowledge and experiences with others and by inspiring them to make a difference in their own way.

The song "Boys and Girls" by Jaden Smith has a very important message to me because the song has a message about breaking free from societal norms and expectations. I believe that this message is particularly relevant in today's world, and I hope that it will inspire others to be true to themselves.
One of the lines that stands out to me in the song is "We as the youth have to see the signs, fill up the streets with our love and pride. The hatred will never survive." This line speaks to the importance of speaking out and fighting for what is right. It encourages listeners to be true to themselves and their beliefs. Jaden is telling the younger generation that they are never too young to embrace their unique qualities and talents, rather than trying to fit into a predetermined mold.
Another line that I find particularly meaningful is "You say we only boys and girls. I say we can change the world. The future lies within the boys and girls." This line speaks to the fire within the younger generation that motivates them to stand up against harmful norms in our society. It encourages listeners to recognize that all individuals are deserving of equal treatment and opportunities.
"Boys and Girls" also speaks to the power of unity and solidarity. The song promotes the idea that by coming together and supporting one another, we can overcome any obstacle and make a positive impact on the world.
Overall, I believe that "Boys and Girls" by Jaden Smith has a very important message to the younger generation about the need for equality, acceptance, and individual identity. It encourages listeners to fight for what they believe in and use their voices and it is truly inspiring.

As a psychology major with a minor in criminology, I am pursuing a career as a forensic psychologist. I will work with legal professionals and law enforcement agencies to provide psychological assessments and evaluations, as well as to provide expert testimony in legal cases. I believe that this field offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the world by helping to promote justice and to improve the well-being of individuals who have been affected by crime.
One of the primary ways that I plan to make a positive impact on the world through my chosen career is by working to promote fairness and justice in the legal system. I believe that everyone deserves to have their rights and interests protected, and I hope to use my skills and expertise as a forensic psychologist to help ensure that the legal system is fair and equitable for all individuals. I will be the change I want to see in the justice system. I will accomplish this by working with law enforcement and other individuals within the criminal justice system to help ensure that justice is served and that individuals receive the help and support that they need. This could include working with individuals who have been charged with crimes to help them better understand their legal rights and options, or providing expert testimony in court to help ensure that decisions are based on accurate and reliable information.
Another way that I plan to make a positive impact on the world through my career is by working to improve the mental health and well-being of individuals who have been involved in the legal system. Many of these individuals have experienced trauma or other mental health challenges, and I believe that it is important to provide them with the support and resources that they need to heal and move forward. I will be working with individuals who have been affected by crime, including victims, offenders, and their families. This could involve providing therapy and support to help individuals cope with the trauma and stress of crime, or working with offenders to help them understand and address the underlying causes of their behavior. Hopefully, I will be able to use my education to change the narrative of mental illness and address the harmful stereotypes and stigmas around mental health.
Finally, I hope to use my career as a forensic psychologist to help improve the overall functioning of the legal system. This could include working with policymakers and advocacy groups to promote reforms that address issues like bias and discrimination, conducting research to better understand the psychological factors that influence legal decision-making and crime to identify effective interventions, or advocating for policies and programs that promote justice and well-being.
In conclusion, I am pursuing a career as a forensic psychologist in order to make a positive impact on the world. I hope to use my skills and expertise to promote fairness and justice in the legal system, to improve the mental health and well-being of individuals involved in the legal system, and to help improve the overall functioning of the legal system.

I plan to make a positive impact on the world through my education by using the knowledge and skills that I have gained to help address some of the most pressing challenges facing our world today. This could include working with organizations that support the well-being of underserved communities, conducting research to better understand and address global issues such as climate change and inequality, or advocating for policies and programs that promote social justice and equality. I hope to earn my degree in psychology and use it to address the issue of mental health in my generation and my black community. By pursuing my goal of becoming a forensic psychologist, I can show other little girls that look like me that they are capable of reaching their dreams. I will use my career to be the positive change I want to see in the criminal justice system as well. I want to shine a more positive light on mental health conditions and rid people of the harmful stereotypes and stigmas they hold against mental illnesses. I believe that once I have accomplished all these, I will have made my mark on the world.
One of the primary obstacles that I faced while playing basketball was dealing with injuries. As an athlete, I have had to deal with a number of injuries over the years, and it has been a challenge to manage the physical and mental challenges that these injuries can bring. However, I have learned that dealing with adversity and overcoming challenges is an important part of the process of building character.
One way that dealing with injuries has helped me to build character is by teaching me the importance of perseverance and resilience. When faced with an injury, it can be tempting to give up and to let it defeat you. However, I have learned that by pushing through the pain and by continuing to work hard, I can overcome these challenges and come out stronger on the other side.
Another way that dealing with injuries has helped me to build character is by teaching me the importance of adaptability and flexibility. When faced with an injury, I have had to learn how to adapt my training and playing style in order to continue to make progress and to stay competitive. This has helped me to develop the ability to adapt to new situations and to be flexible in the face of change.
Overall, dealing with injuries while playing basketball has been a challenging but rewarding experience. It has taught me the importance of perseverance, resilience, adaptability, and flexibility, and has helped me to develop the character that I need to succeed in life.

Audra Dominguez "Be Brave" Scholarship
When confronted with adversity, I have taken several steps to continue to achieve my career aspirations. One of the most important things I have done is to stay focused on my goals, even when things are difficult. I have found that by maintaining a sense of purpose and by staying optimistic, I am better able to persevere and find ways to overcome challenges and setbacks.
One of the most important things that I have done is to focus on the things that are within my control and to try to let go of the things that are not. This has helped me to stay centered and to keep things in perspective, even when faced with difficult challenges.
In addition to focusing on my goals and the things that are within my control, I have also tried to stay positive and maintain a growth mindset. This has meant looking for opportunities to learn and grow, even in the face of adversity, and staying open to new ideas and approaches. By staying positive and keeping a growth mindset, I have been able to keep moving forward and staying focused on my goals.
I have also learned the importance of seeking support and guidance from others when faced with adversity. Whether it's talking to a mentor or trusted friend or seeking help from a professional, I have found that getting support can help me to gain perspective and to find ways to navigate difficult situations.
Another key step I have taken when confronted with adversity is to be proactive in addressing the challenges that I have faced and to seek out resources and opportunities that can help me to continue to grow and learn. Taking steps to address the underlying causes of the adversity I have faced might include taking advantage of professional development opportunities, seeking out mentors or sponsors, or seeking out new experiences that will challenge me and help me to grow. By being proactive and taking control of the situation, I have been able to make progress and continue to work toward achieving my career aspirations.
Finally, I have found that it is important to be flexible and open to change when faced with adversity. Sometimes, the best way to overcome a challenge is to pivot and find a new approach or a new direction. In conclusion, when confronted with adversity, I have taken several steps to continue to achieve my career aspirations. These have included focusing on the things that are within my control, staying focused on my goals, maintaining a positive attitude and a growth mindset, seeking support and guidance from others, being proactive and seeking out resources and opportunities, and being flexible and open to change. Since I began thinking of my future in middle school, psychology was always the path I believed I should take. As I grew, so did my passion for studying psychology. Ultimately, I decided to pursue an education in psychology to work toward de-stigmatizing mental illness and therapy. I wish to help families, specifically families of color, overcome the challenges and setbacks posed by generational trauma. Due to these desires, I have set out to become a psychiatrist and specialize in family therapy. After getting my Bachelor of Science in Psychology, I plan to take extra courses and enroll in a medical school. In medical school, I will pursue psychiatry and begin my career. My hopes are to work in a hospital to gain experience and start helping patients there. Then, I have goals to open a private practice. I will work alongside other talented mental health specialists who share my passion for the de-stigmatization of mental illnesses. After completing all my certifications to be a family therapist, I will work in my own private practice. I hope that my work can display the importance of self-care and mental health and depict mental illness in a healthier light. Through my work de-stigmatizing mental illness, I will play my part in making the world a better place. Finally, I have a goal to produce art for people to enjoy. I want to grow a platform to share the beauty I find in life every day. I will use this platform to advocate for change and fulfill my goal of changing the world for the better.
Abby's First-Generation College Student Scholarship
WinnerWhile the COVID-19 pandemic affected everyone differently, distance learning was a major change for all students. I adjusted to online school quite easier than my peers because I am technologically inclined and intrinsically motivated. However, being at home without my own room and with about 8 to 10 people in the house at any given time did not leave any room for concentration. I had cousins, grandparents, and children in my home for the first time as we tried to make it by. There were also no spaces in the house I could use for studying. This made it hard for me to participate in virtual classes, focus when it came to assignments for my higher-level courses, and complete work on time. While I was an active member of the National Honors Society and Creative Writing Club during these times, there was far less opportunity for extracurricular activities. I would have been entirely more involved in other activities if I had not struggled to manage my workload with online school. Also, the distance from the classroom made it difficult for me to make new connections or maintain the relationships I had with my peers. I missed out on some really big milestones which may have delayed my growth mentally. The pandemic put a damper on my grades, my participation in and outside of class, and my relationships with my peers. But throughout that difficult time, I stayed focused on my goals. Moving into my senior year, I went on to do impressive work. I was named my Class President, FCIAC Scholar Leader for Central High School, and a College Board National Recognition program Scholar. I was accepted to 12 incredible universities including Howard University, Penn State, and the University of Connecticut. Finally, I gained many new friends and connections with people that will have an important place in my life. Of course, it was not easy. But I was able to salvage my high school career, even in the midst of a pandemic.
Bold Generosity Matters Scholarship
To me, being generous means being open and caring. Generosity also means to be charitable and gracious. Someone generous thinks of others and things they would want and need. Then, these generous people put in immense effort to provide people with such things. Generosity is seen when a driver slows their car to donate to a person in need on the sidewalk. It is seen when someone notices a person being left out in a social setting and then includes them in conversation to diminish those feelings of isolation. I believe Generosity is also displayed when you assist your elderly neighbors with food or yard work. Generosity is not necessarily giving abundantly, but giving selflessly to people who are in need. Generosity in itself is sharing the little you have with anybody who is in need. This can also be knowledge, sharing information with people who need it, or tutoring children in your free time. Volunteering your time at a food pantry can also be considered as being generous. This is donating food and time to help less fortunate people. For me, I am generous by complimenting strangers to improve their day, helping my peers with schoolwork in hopes to take some pressure off their shoulders, and participating in community service activities.
Bold Hobbies Scholarship
Music has always been a great passion of mine. I love to sing, dance to, and create music. I enjoy giving myself piano lessons and completing songwriting sessions when I am inspired. I write songs about my feelings in the moment and stories I have heard or created. When I am not spending time creating music, I am diving into other creative outlets. I love fashion and creating content on social media. I will spend hours formulating outfits for myself and others. My phone is full of inspiration pictures and mood boards to pick new outfits from. I have a YouTube channel and active Instagram page where I post fashion, lifestyle, blog content. I am especially passionate about making videos and posts for others to enjoy. I take my time filming clips and editing photos for my pages. My favorite kinds of videos to make for YouTube are ones that connect to my love for fashion. These may be clothing hauls, seasonal lookbooks, or rating different looks for my subscribers.

3Wishes Women’s Empowerment Scholarship
The efforts and achievements of women in our society are necessary and impactful. Women provide greatness in whatever field they enter. While women have these great qualities that are worthy of praise, they tend to be dragged down and dispirited in school, the workplace, and the media.
To successfully empower women, society must first work to dissolve the negative stereotypes and unreasonable expectations placed on women. An example of this may be correcting yourself and others around you when judging a woman's looks as an effort to dismantle beauty standards. This may also be asking yourself for a clear reason for disliking a certain woman. Feuds between women are sometimes rooted in internalized misogyny, which cannot go unchecked.
To effectively empower women, society must also positively represent all women in powerful roles. Women today can hold some of the most influential and important positions, but only get a part of the respect they deserve. This treatment of women has been conditioned into our society from years of domesticating women and barring them from such roles. Now, for us to decondition ourselves, society must see women as CEOs, doctors, and politicians. By presenting these women the same as men holding similar positions, the playing field will be leveled. It will be easier for women to empower themselves.
Women need to be given safe spaces, allowing them to thrive and flourish, resulting in them feeling empowered. When women feel comfortable, their greatness will multiply. In creating these safe spaces, women will be able to empower themselves and their peers without judging eyes. Women will create bonds and uplift one another.
Empowering women is essential to success in our society. Without the contributions of women, we would struggle. In order to encourage the ideas, efforts of women, we must work together to end stereotypes, increase positive representation of women, and create safe spaces.
