My name is Brandon Scott, and I am currently a student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science at Queens College, with an expected graduation date in June 2025. I also hold an Associate's degree in Computer Information Systems from City Tech, which I completed in 2017. My journey into the field of cybersecurity is driven by a passion for protecting digital systems and data from evolving threats and vulnerabilities. My pursuit of a career in cybersecurity is rooted in a commitment to continuous education and self-improvement. I earned the CompTIA Security+ certification in July 2022, which provided a strong foundation in information security. I also obtained the CompTIA CySA+ certification in August 2023, which enabled me to delve deeper into cyber threat detection and response strategies. My skill set in cybersecurity is diverse, encompassing log analysis, network security, programming languages like Java and C++, and proficiency in tools such as Wireshark and Nessus. I also have a strong grasp of NIST 800-53 and NIST CSF frameworks, which are essential for ensuring compliance and conducting comprehensive risk assessments. Practical experience plays a crucial role in my journey. In my role as the Cyber Security Research Team Lead at QC ISACA from March 2022 to May 2023, I had the opportunity to lead and supervise a team of individuals working on cybersecurity research. This role allowed me to develop strong leadership and team management skills. Under my guidance, our team achieved a top-three placement in a competitive cyber security research case study competition during the spring of 2023. In this case study, I played a pivotal role in this case which involved a company called PharmaCo. We had the task of creating a comprehensive presentation on a company that experienced a cybersecurity breach during M&A proceedings. Our efforts resulted in Queens College securing a top-three placement in the Case Study Competition out of 16 participating schools nationwide. My commitment to self-improvement and community engagement is also reflected in my leadership roles. Currently, I serve as the President of the Queens College ISACA Cybersecurity Club, a position I've held since August 2022. In this role, I've worked closely with fellow executive board members to plan events aimed at raising awareness about cybersecurity. I've also actively managed the club's social media presence, resulting in a substantial increase in viewership and membership over the past month. Furthermore, I've contributed to the club's success in annual cybersecurity case study competitions and organized career development events, attracting the participation of more than ten Fortune 500 companies. Prior to my role as President, I served as the Treasurer of the Queens College ISACA Cybersecurity Club from June 2021 to August 2022. In this capacity, I collaborated with fellow executive board members to plan events that promoted cybersecurity awareness and managed the club's finances. Being part of a professional organization like ISACA helps me to keep honing my craft, and keep abreast of the latest incidents in the Cybersecurity Industry. In summary, my journey into cybersecurity is marked by my unwavering passion for the field, a commitment to continuous education and improvement, and active engagement in individual and community projects. Through my educational achievements, practical experience, research initiatives, and leadership roles, I am dedicated to enhancing my skills while making a meaningful impact in the field of cybersecurity. I look forward to continued growth and contributions to this dynamic field.
