Hello! My name is Bradley, and I am currently a junior in high school. That intro sounded cheesy, but it’s the best I can think of at 4 in the morning, so I’ll go with it. I have a few interests, including music, coding, cross country, and having fun with friends when I have time. My biggest skill and interest is music. I have been playing music since I was born, and I have a wide variety of mastered instruments, including cello, drums, guitar, bass, and every day I learn more. Since I have all these interests, I find it hard to do all of them in the day, so I have to pick and choose what I feel like pretty often. I’ve found that I’m primarily into music right now, specifically songwriting, which is fun even if the songs aren’t perfect. My biggest goal is to work for my dream company, Apple. It would be the coolest thing ever to create new things that billions of people use. Another one of my goals is to go to ASU (my current goal), and I’m working hard to get scholarships to help pay. At college, I plan to dual major in computer science and music production, giving me a well-rounded experience and expertise.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is one of the hardest questions to answer. A song is not simply words or rhythm, it is emotion and connection, time and energy, and the very heart and soul of the writer. I want a song that doesn't just inspire me to do, it should inspire me just to be. A song should have a deep connection between its beat, lyrics, story, and even its key, which is why I think that the most inspirational song is Soul to Squeeze.
Soul to Squeeze tells the story of lead singer Anthony Kiedis’s struggle with addiction and his way out of self-destruction, and I too can relate to his feeling of being trapped and desperately wanting a way out. His lyrics show how his mental struggle is the same as physical pain with the line, “from my brain is where I bleed,” describing mental illness. He also has a recurring theme about distractions and finding escapes from his ruinous situation. The lyrics, “Where I go, I just don't know // I got to, got to, gotta take it slow // When I find my peace of mind // I'm gonna give ya some of my good time,” reflect his optimism and goal of overcoming his struggles.
From the musical perspective of the song, it has a happy chord progression and off-beat drum rhythm that creates an almost impossible groove to not enjoy. The song starts off with a syncopated guitar solo and a crescendoing bass and drum backtrack, and the drummer's use of drum triplet rolls gives the song a bouncier feeling and adds a layer of sophistication. There are many more perfect aspects of the song, however, these are what make Soul to Squeeze the most inspirational song to me.
