Hello, my name is Bobby Pearson, and I am from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I am currently in school to become a licensed optician. I had the honor of seeing a kid see his parents for the first time with the help of glasses. That is when I knew this was what I was meant to do. A career in Ophthalmic Support Services is an excellent opportunity to make a positive impact in people's lives by helping them maintain good eye health. I plan to make a positive impact through my career in ophthalmic support services in many ways. I will do this by providing exceptional patient care, representation, staying up-to-date with technology, training, and volunteering. The goal is to ensure that patients receive the care they need to maintain healthy eyesight. By providing excellent care, I can help patients feel more comfortable and confident in their experiences. This can lead to better outcomes and improved quality of life for patients. A career in Ophthalmic Support Services allows me to make a positive impact in my community. Opticians can play an essential role in community outreach programs and eye care clinics, providing eye care services to those who may not have access to them otherwise. As an African American male, it is few of us as Opticians. Representation matters because it shapes the way we view and understand the world around us. The images, stories, and messages that we see and hear in media, advertising, politics, and other forms of communication all contribute to our perceptions and attitudes about diverse groups of people and their experiences. When certain groups are consistently underrepresented or misrepresented, it can perpetuate stereotypes, create biases, and contribute to discrimination and inequality. When diverse and accurate representation is present, it can help to challenge stereotypes, promote understanding, and create a more inclusive society. Representation matters because it has a profound impact on our individual and collective perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors. Another way I will make a positive impact in this field is by staying up-to-date with the latest technology in the field. Ophthalmology is a rapidly evolving field, with new techniques, technologies, and treatments being developed all the time. By staying informed and knowledgeable about these developments, I can provide the most effective and innovative care to patients. This can lead to improved outcomes and better overall patient experience. Finally, I will make a positive impact by volunteering my time and expertise to help those in need. By volunteering, I can help ensure that all underserved patients receive the support and care they need to maintain healthy eyesight. In conclusion, a career in ophthalmic support services provides an opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of patients while also building a rewarding and fulfilling career. By providing exceptional patient care, staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field, being a representative, and volunteering, I can make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people I serve.
