Bio

I was born in a refugee camp in West Africa and lived through a series of civil wars and political violence. In addition to being born as a refugee in Nigeria, I was forced to abandon the place I would call home and move from one country to the next. In 2003, I immigrated to the United States as a refugee from Liberia and Ivory Coast. In the refugee camps where I have resided, many children, mothers and babies died due to a lack of proper health care, and sadly, most of them died due to treatable illnesses. When I lost my father in 2008, it was then that my compassion turned into a dream I am boldly pursuing. Currently, I am a nursing student, and I work as a sitter in a hospital to pay my tuition since I have no family with me here in the United States. A scholarship would allow me to achieve my dream of becoming a nurse by alleviating the financial burden that weighs heavy on my shoulders. Furthermore, winning a scholarship will motivate me to work even harder because I would be able to give back to the community that has given so much to me. Since I have not been fortunate enough to have a family here in the United States, a scholarship will allow me to complete my education without financial hurdles. I understand that hard work, dedication, and persistence are necessary to achieve my goal. Fulfilling my dream will not only bring hope and change to many other lives, but it will also be a great source of satisfaction and accomplishment for me.

My passion for Nursing comes from a place of compassion for the human races and society's most vulnerable. i was born in raised in a small refugee camp in West Africa Nigeria. While growing up, i witnessed people suffer from the lack of proper health care. As a child, i saw many people succumb to illnesses that could have been cured with proper health care. Witnessing my loved ones and those around me surrender to death awakened within me even at the tender age of six years old. my compassion ,and love caring for those around me grew with every tragic incident . my defining moment however , came when I lost my father at the age of 14. My father had served in a few civil wars in my country . He was shot during one of those wars . The bullets lived in side of him until it was discovery by a doctor in west Africa in 2006. Upon removal of the bullets , my father succumb to his illness. When my father was alive, although we had not known each other physical for long due to separation from the civil war, we shared a bond. And that bond was our love for education . my father wanted me to further my education so could reach where he could and take care of those that needs it the most . When I lost my father , my passion grew. my love for the medical field, and the possibilities of being able to make my dream a reality became even more clearer . my love for the health care field comes from vulnerability. When i was a little girl, i watched innocent babies , women and kids died do to lack of proper health care. For me, witnessing all of these tragedies became my driving force. i wanted to make sure i became apart of the solution. Today, as a nursing student and a sitter at St Luke's Hospital, I'm able to take care of patients that are chronically ill , I'm also able to be a companion to them during their saddest and toughest moments. My dream is to continue to serve people that are in dire need of health care and those that can not afford health care . After graduation from nursing school, I hope to join Nursing beyond Borders to Provide affordable health care in parts of the world where it is needed the most.

Pursuing my dream of nursing is supported by my painful life experiences with living in three different refugee camps in west Africa, and witnessing people die in tragic conditions due to poverty . Growing up as a refugee in west Africa has fueled my passion and love for helping individuals in our society. It is the ideal profession for me because I want to better people's lives by providing medical and healthcare. Further, fulfilling the dream will also fulfill my aspirations of spreading love and compassion. my adversities as a child prepared me for the burdens and uncertainties that accompany health and wellness complications. Healthcare needs individuals that are greatly inspired and with compassion for others. To get to attain my dreams, it needs great efforts and the best of my abilities. Winning any form of scholarship would help ease the financial stress that comes with obtaining a BSN degree. Currently, I'm paying for both my nursing school tuition and my rent out of pocket by working fulltime at a hospital. This is not feasible long term as I will need more time to focus on my studies. If I am considered for a scholarship ,I will tirelessly continue working hard towards becoming one of the best healthcare providers in the world. The opportunity will not only help me achieve my dream of working in the health care sector, but it will also ensure that I give back to the community.
