I am a high school Senior seeking higher education so that I can grow as a person, and expand my knowledge. I enjoy learning and researching deep subjects, so I get the feeling college will be the perfect fit for me. I want to complete a biochemistry or chemical engineering degree with a focus on environmentalism and sustainability. These fields of research fill me with wonder at the possibilities of science, and fuel my desire to dig deeper. I also want to focus on environmental sustainability because I want to do my part in preserving our planet's natural resources. I wish to develop technologies or materials that can be used to put an end to waste and pollution. Without higher education, I will be unable to culminate my knowledge into achieving such a task. Thank you for your consideration.

The biggest thing I have absorbed from interacting in my community is that I don't belong. This does not mean I don't fit in; I have plenty of friends and past connections. What I mean to say, is I have come to the realization that I have a greater vision than most people I know. To provide basis for this bold statement, I will describe the two categories most of my acquaintances fit into.
The first, and most prominent throughout my childhood, were the people without a mindset of living a more expansive life. Growing up in an atmosphere with a poor, single mother who pursued a career in the recovery of poverty stricken families, I have come to face the real setbacks and limitations of being poor. I don't see this as a hindrance to my growth as a successful person, however. In fact, I believe it gives me humility in the face of my privilege.
The reason being, is the second category of people I have been surrounded by throughout my high school career. In an attempt for a more profound and opportunity-rich education, my mother got me into one of the most prestigious college preparatory schools in my area. Consequently, I took my classes with students of some of the richest families in the area. My peers turned out to be some of the most narcissistic, ostentatious people I have ever met. I personally could not stand this behavior and be surrounded by this toxic lifestyle, so I decided to switch schools.
Growing up in these conditions affected the way I see people in government and in my community exercise their wealth and power. I can't see myself stuck in a 9 to 5 career for the rest of my life, but acknowledge the importance of those jobs in our economy. I have high hopes and big dreams for my future in the vast ocean of scientific development. My decision to study science in college is partially led by its lucrative career options, but mostly due to my enjoyment of learning, and my restless curiosity.
I have come to appreciate my humble beginnings, with respect to the lessons I have learned. Having experience of the aspects of both poverty and privilege has gained me access to wisdom and knowledge not many people my age possess. I use patience and empathy in ways that align my maturity with adults who have overcome difficulties. Even so, I have an passionate spirit that pushes me toward new possibilities, growth, and higher success that I envision myself in.
Being in a science field would give me what I have yearned for, over the course of my life; a purpose that helps others. I want to explore the possibilities of scientific knowledge, and use these experiences I have collected to make a difference. Having the opportunity to develop something that could save lives or restore stability to our planet is something that would make me feel fulfilled. One important step in that process is having the funds to pay for my education, and moreover, to help me pay it forward. I want to use my intellect and wisdom for the greater good, but to do so, I need to be able to afford my college education. I implore the reader to consider me as the recipient of this important step in my path towards future success.
