At the age of 18, my life, despite outward appearances, is one defined by challenges and the continuous triumph over physical, mental, and emotional adversity. Born into the unique circumstances of a combat veteran and disabled hero, my father, who grapples daily with physical limitations and the mental scars of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), exemplifies resilience. His selfless commitment extends to caring for my mother, who endured a debilitating stroke, all while providing for our family. Being born to older parents with my father's combat injuries limiting his physical engagement left me navigating a complex landscape. As a child, I yearned for the typical father-son interactions, like playing catch, that remained elusive due to his condition. My mother's stroke exacerbated our family's challenges, and I often felt a sense of embarrassment, unable to fully embrace their presence at school or sporting events where assistance was required. By seventh grade, the weight of responsibilities led me to take charge of household chores my father couldn't manage. Seeking refuge from the mounting anguish and anger, I turned to the sanctuary of my church, the solace found in athletics, and the therapeutic outlet of art. In this trinity, I discovered a reservoir of strength within myself. Athletics, particularly football and track, emerged as my refuge. Despite the adversities at home, I excelled, lettering in football during my sophomore year and becoming a district leader in yards rushing and all-purpose yards. Our team's journey to the state playoffs became a beacon of growth, both physically and mentally. The zenith of my achievements approached in my junior year, as letters from renowned college athletics programs flooded in. However, fate intervened, and a season-ending injury in the third game shattered my dreams. Depression engulfed me, and the pillars of my life crumbled. My father, grappling with increasing responsibilities at the hospital, and my sisters having moved on, left me returning to a desolate home. Amidst this darkness, the unwavering love of three dogs became a source of solace. A turning point emerged when my youth pastor invoked the wisdom of Psalms 1, urging me to choose the path of resilience. In a conversation with my father that followed, he defined the essence of manhood not by success, but by the ability to rise after every fall. Determined, I resolved not to succumb to despair. Months of intense training followed, marked by a resurgence that defied adversity. Strengthened physically, mentally, and emotionally, I returned to lead my senior year as a team captain, achieving excellence both academically and athletically. This journey, marked by setbacks and triumphs, has forged an unshakable belief in my ability to conquer any challenge life presents.

My father's life journey is a tapestry of exceptional service, unwavering determination, and a commitment to excellence that extends far beyond personal aspirations. Beginning as an E3 in the infantry, he ascended the ranks to retire as a CW5 Master Aviator in the US Army, a decorated combat veteran and a service-connected disabled veteran. His dedication to duty is underscored by an extraordinary record of nine combat tours spanning the years from 1989 to 2015. Hailing from the inner city of Houston, Texas, my father faced the challenges of a disadvantaged upbringing head-on. Determined to transcend his circumstances, he relentlessly pursued success and worked tirelessly to ensure that he would never be tethered to the struggles of his youth. This commitment to rise above adversity not only defined his character but also became a driving force in shaping his future endeavors. Amidst the demands of military service, my father achieved academic excellence, earning both a bachelor's degree and an MBA. These accomplishments, accomplished while on active duty, speak to his discipline, intellectual acumen, and a relentless pursuit of personal and professional growth. The juxtaposition of combat tours with educational pursuits reflects his ability to balance the rigors of military life with a thirst for knowledge and self-improvement. Throughout his illustrious military career, my father's leadership prowess shone in a variety of roles. Starting as a squad leader in a Ranger Company, he demonstrated tactical proficiency and leadership under high-pressure scenarios. His journey continued through increasingly challenging positions, culminating in his role as the Director of Future Weapons Systems and Manning in the Department of Defense – a testament to his strategic vision and decision-making prowess. In the final six months of his military service, my father embarked on a transformative mission, building the Chief Warrant Officer Advisor position for the Chief of Staff of the US Army. This initiative showcased not only his foresight and dedication but also left an indelible mark on the structure of the Army's leadership. Inspired by my father's legacy, I am driven to make a meaningful impact on the world, both locally and globally. As an entrepreneur at heart, I am passionate about leveraging existing technology to establish a company focused on expanding remote medical treatment on a global scale. By embracing innovation, I aspire to bridge gaps in healthcare accessibility and contribute to the betterment of lives on a worldwide level. In following my father's example, I seek to not only dream big but also to transform those dreams into impactful realities.
