I’m Ayman Babiker, an international student majoring in biomedicine and currently on a Pre-med track.
In a world where silence often seems like the easiest path, I have chosen to be an upstander, someone who stands up against injustice and advocates for positive change. From my earliest experiences, I've recognized the importance of using my voice to make a difference in my community and beyond.
As an upstander, I've encountered instances where I couldn't remain silent in the face of wrongdoing.
My commitment to being an upstander goes beyond individual instances. It's about creating a community where everyone feels heard, valued, and respected. To achieve this, I plan to leverage my voice as a means of promoting inclusivity and addressing underlying issues. One of my goals is to initiate open dialogues within my community, whether it's through organizing workshops, panel discussions, or writing articles that shed light on relevant topics. By providing a platform for different voices to be heard, I hope to foster understanding and collaboration among diverse perspectives.
In my journey to build a stronger community, I recognize the power of education. Through sharing my experiences and knowledge, I aim to raise awareness about social issues that need attention. Whether it's advocating for environmental sustainability, or social Justice. my voice becomes a tool for informing and engaging others. By connecting with like-minded individuals and organizations, I plan to contribute to community-driven initiatives that bring about positive change.
One of my recent projects is to establish the first ever Sudanese student association in Mankato, Minnesota. The association will recognize all Sudanese students on campus and act as a catalyst for many of their issues or problems. The association will also be an outreach tool to attract more sudanese minds to pursue their higher education, last but not least the association will continue to show its support to the people of Sudan and promote their peaceful campaigns and support their matter.
Moreover, being an upstander means standing in solidarity with marginalized groups. I understand that using my voice to amplify the voices of those who may not have the same platform is crucial. By actively supporting and advocating for underrepresented communities, I hope to contribute to a more equitable and just society.
In conclusion, being an upstander is about more than just speaking up; it's about taking meaningful actions to promote positive change and create a supportive community. My journey as an upstander involves advocating for justice, addressing social issues, and fostering inclusivity. Through the power of my voice, I aspire to inspire others to stand up, speak out, and collectively contribute to a brighter future.
