Bio

I am a driven and analytical college freshman seeking a career in Accounting. I currently attend the University of Richmond and intend to earn my Bachelor’s degree and work toward my CPA licensure. During high school, I was the President of the National Business Honor Society at my school. This organization prides itself on recognizing outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service of students who are interested in pursuing a career in business. I am also the Founder and former President of an organization called Saber Samaritans, whose mission is to provide services to the community through volunteering. Some of my responsibilities include creating agendas and leading meetings, managing social media accounts, communicating with local organizations, and using spreadsheets to stay organized. In addition to these organizations, I was a manager for the Shakopee High School Girls Hockey Team during the winter, and I also participated in softball year-round. I am always researching and trying to maximize scholarship money to provide myself with greater financial security and increased opportunities for personal and professional growth. It will help me develop strong interpersonal skills and prepare me as an adult going forward in the real world. It will also allow me to look for new ways to help others and make the world a better place for everyone.

    TEAM ROX Scholarship
I believe that being active in your community is necessary, but it is also highly rewarding. Others are helped by your efforts, but you also receive the satisfaction of knowing that you are contributing to something bigger than yourself by helping those who may not be able to help themselves. My goal is to see my community thrive and produce positive outcomes for others. I am inspired by the connections that come from working with a team. I have been able to work with volunteers of diverse backgrounds that have a passion for the same causes I do. In addition to volunteering, it teaches you skills of leadership, communication, and teamwork, it also builds character and confidence. I have learned that It’s important to understand that success is a process and comes from repeated small efforts. When taking on major issues such as world hunger, poverty, or health and medicine, it is best to take a step-by-step approach. This will help create a plan that is effective and strategic, which will bring us closer to achieving positive change in the community. To fulfill this need locally, I created a student organization at my high school called Saber Samaritans. Our mission is to provide service to the community through volunteering. Saber Samaritans has worked alongside several local organizations to date, such as the Community Action Partnership (CAP) Agency of Scott, Carver, and Dakota Counties in Minnesota. The CAP Agency assists and empowers those struggling financially to achieve social and economic independence, dignity, and well-being. We reached out on social media and connected with a downtown Shakopee business to help us collect donations as part of the CAP Agency’s Hope for the Holidays present drive this year. This allowed us to help spread the word about the agency’s cause and provide resources for local seniors and families in need. Saber Samaritans also volunteers at Feed My Starving Children, a national non-profit organization that seeks to eliminate hunger and meet the needs of malnourished children throughout the world. We help mix and package MannaPack meals at the FMSC warehouse facility, which are then shipped across the globe to those in need. Then, in partnership with the Scott County Prevention Coalition and our school’s Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) chapter, we recently hosted a Substance Awareness Night at our high school. The event featured tips for drug prevention and overdose training, including a demonstration of how to administer NARCAN Nasal Spray during an overdose. As President of Saber Samaritans, I have been able to strengthen my organizational and leadership skills through research, working with community leaders, building agendas, creating event schedules, and leading our weekly meetings. Using my strengths and passions for good has allowed me to develop a sense of social responsibility and commitment to my community. This scholarship will bring me a step closer to continuing my passion for serving underprivileged communities during college. I will be able to develop strong interpersonal skills and prepare myself as an adult going forward in the real world. It will also allow me to look for new ways to help others and make the world a better place for everyone.

STAR Scholarship - Students Taking Alternative Routes
Accounting has always stood out to me because I enjoy working with numbers and spreadsheets. But as I learn and grow, I realize that this profession is more than just playing on a giant grid all day. Integrity and trustworthiness are at the foundation of personal success and applying these values in my day-to-day work is fulfilling. Tackling challenges head-on allows me to apply my critical thinking abilities to real-world scenarios. Being the detail-oriented, analytical, and curious person I am, it can be difficult to take a step back and see the full picture. But by doing so, I have been able to evaluate my decisions and ensure that my efforts align with the greater good. This has enabled me to be more intentional, strategic, and ethical in my actions, ensuring that my professional endeavors positively contribute to the well-being of those around me. While Accountants often go unnoticed or unrecognized, they are vital members of society and exhibit unwavering dedication that goes beyond number crunching. These professionals recognize the crucial role they play in maintaining the financial health and stability of businesses, organizations, and families. With the awareness that their meticulous work directly influences critical decisions, Accountants are driven to ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial information. This devotion emerges from a desire to empower businesses to excel, create jobs, contribute to economic growth, and foster thriving communities. As a result, many engage in volunteer work, mentorship programs, and community outreach initiatives. By offering their skills to those in need and sharing their knowledge, Accountants become catalysts for positive change. Their actions reflect a commitment to stimulating a culture of integrity, transparency, and responsibility throughout the community, which I find very inspiring. A way I plan to gain knowledge in my field and give back to the community is to work with nonprofits. Through my substantial experience in coordinating and participating in volunteer groups, I have developed a fascination for working in diverse environments. Unfortunately, many of these organizations lack the financial expertise needed to manage their resources and understand their financial capabilities. I strive to take a hands-on approach to this issue and guide these organizations by helping manage their accounts, setting up financial systems, and providing audits. Through my duties as an Accountant, I will understand and teach others the importance of responsible financial practices and regulatory compliance. Through my networks, I will educate others on financial literacy as it is an important factor in future success. I plan on achieving this by teaching financial classes to children, teenagers, and young adults, offering free tax workshops, and spreading awareness by engaging in local events. I can also use my expertise to mentor younger professionals who are just starting their careers, or students who are interested in Accounting. I have the opportunity to share my experience with those eager to learn, show them the ropes of the industry, and guide them in making important decisions. By discovering the meaning behind those numbers and spreadsheets I stare into all day, I will seek new ways to provide equitable access to financial services and ensure that everyone receives the benefits they deserve. This scholarship will give me the resources to continue my passion for serving underprivileged communities in college. It will bring me a step closer to achieving my academic and personal goals while preparing myself as an adult going forward in the real world. I will be empowered to look for new ways to help others and make the world a better place for everyone.

    Peter T. Buecher Memorial Scholarship
My name is Ava Frey and I am a senior at Shakopee High School in Minnesota seeking a career in Accounting. My post-secondary education plans include attending the University of Richmond to earn my Bachelor’s degree and work toward my CPA licensure. I enjoy working with people and being involved in current events. I take on leadership roles in a diverse range of extracurricular activities such as being the President of the National Business Honor Society, Ambassador in Saber Pause, and a Link Leader in Link Crew. I also participate in Softball year-round and manage the High School Girls Hockey Team.

I believe that being active in your community is necessary, but it is also highly rewarding. Others are helped by your efforts, but you also receive the satisfaction of knowing that you are contributing to something bigger than yourself by helping those who may not be able to help themselves. I believe that being active in your community is necessary, but it is also highly rewarding. This scholarship will give me the resources to continue my passion for serving underprivileged communities during college. I will be a step closer to achieving my academic and personal goals while preparing myself as an adult going forward in the real world. It will also allow me to look for new ways to help others and make the world a better place for everyone.
    Bright Lights Scholarship
Over my high school career, I believe I have proven myself to be a very capable student and team leader. I am someone that will do what is necessary to exceed expectations to get the job done correctly. Currently, I am the President of the National Business Honor Society chapter at my school. This organization prides itself on recognizing outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service of students who are interested in pursuing a business career. I am also the Founder and President of a new organization called Saber Samaritans, our mission is to provide services to the community through volunteering. As a community leader, I have strengthened my organizational and leadership skills through research, working with professionals, building agendas, and leading weekly meetings. Using my strengths and passions for good has allowed me to develop a sense of social responsibility and commitment to my community. A way I plan to gain knowledge in my field and give back to the community is to work with nonprofits. I have substantial experience working in nonprofits and I have developed a passion for working with diverse groups and individuals. Unfortunately, many of these organizations lack the financial expertise needed to manage their resources and understand their financial capabilities. I strive to take a hands-on approach to this issue and guide these groups by helping manage their accounts, setting up financial systems, and providing audits. Through my duties as an Accountant, I will understand and teach others the importance of responsible financial practices and regulatory compliance. Through my networks, I will educate others on financial literacy as it is an important factor in future success. I plan on achieving this by teaching financial classes to children and teens, offering free tax workshops, and spreading awareness by hosting presentations at local events. I can also use my expertise to mentor younger professionals who are just starting their careers, or students who are interested in Accounting. As a teenager from a low-income Hispanic household, I understand from firsthand experience that financial and societal hardships can strain your overall quality of life. My experience has inspired me to strive for success and give back to those who may be facing similar difficulties. My socioeconomic background has taught me the value of resilience, perseverance, and empathy, and I am determined to use these qualities to make a difference in the world. I aim to be a role model that paves that path for others and demonstrates that your circumstances do not define who you are. I believe that being active in your community is necessary, but it is also highly rewarding. Colby R. Eggleston and Kyla Lee Entrepreneurship Award
If I had the opportunity and resources, I would develop a non-profit organization. It would provide the opportunity for youth and young adults in underprivileged communities to participate in sports. We would provide equipment, leagues, and proper nutrition to future athletes all over the world. Statistically, sports participation rates among youth living in households with the lowest incomes ($25,000 or less) are about half that of youth from wealthier homes ($100,000+). Our goal would be to reduce this margin in order to improve the overall well-being of young low-income individuals. As a current softball player with 11+ years of experience, the life lessons you learn through sports are ones you cannot teach. Learning how to work with others and use teamwork is so important when you progress in the real world. Developing these skills at a young age builds the foundation of social and emotional intelligence. These connections also strengthen communication and collaboration, which are vital in many aspects of life. As children grow up, they obtain more advanced skills. These include accountability, adversity, goal setting, persistence, and attitude. In addition, physical activity is essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It helps reduce life-threatening diseases such as type 2 diabetes and cancer, which are currently on the rise. Strengthening your bones, muscles, and heart are all major factors that improve your ability to complete everyday tasks. With an increase in brain health, there is also a reduction in mental illness. Due to the natural production of positive chemicals during exercise, there are lower rates of stress, anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts associated with athletes. The rate of underage substance abuse and overall dangerous decision-making also decreases. Having an outlet to be yourself also plays a crucial role in mental health. The correlation between teens playing sports and spending time on social media is negative. All of these factors play a key role in the overall well-being of an individual. Doing something as simple as giving a child a ball, can change them for the rest of their life. Allowing these children to pursue their passions and dreams gives them a whole new perspective on the world. Being able to escape their troubles at home gives them a token of hope for the future. Dedicating my time and resources to an area I am so passionate about is the least I can do when it comes to the happiness and health of a child.

Each person has something unique to give and by doing so, makes the world a better place. Contributing to the community not only helps show appreciation for one’s country but is also an amazing way to learn and grow. Service gives us an opportunity to develop, think critically, and express our unique perspectives. It also helps build relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, which helps us all understand one another and develop collectively. I am fulfilling my role as an American by taking the initiative and using the power of my voice to help shape the future. I strive to be a role model to others and to make a positive difference in my community. Whether that be by teaching others, volunteering, or being an advocate, I want to ensure that I am giving back in every way I can. This is how I show my patriotism and love for this country.

In addition to these organizations, I am a manager for the Shakopee High School Girls Hockey Team during the winter, and I also participate in softball year-round. I see myself as a go-getter and a hardworking student, and managing a busy schedule can be quite overwhelming, especially when there are a wide array of tasks that need to be completed. Managing my personal wellness is a top priority, and by practicing good time management, it is possible to balance a schedule and prioritize tasks effectively. I believe the most important part of managing a heavy schedule is to accurately determine how much time is available and what needs to be done within that time frame. This often requires careful planning and breaking up large tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks of time. Additionally, it is beneficial to make to-do lists that prioritize tasks according to importance and deadlines. To make sure every task is completed on time and with the best results, I allocate sufficient time to completing them. This means staying committed to the established timeline and avoiding procrastination. By creating a schedule that provides breaks and relaxation time throughout the day. I provide myself with ample time to refresh and reset, making it easier to stay focused and productive for the tasks ahead. When it comes to physical wellness, eating nutritious and balanced meals throughout the day and exercising keeps my body in a healthy shape as well as prevents mental exhaustion. Drinking plenty of water and avoiding smoking, drinking, and drugs is also an expectation of mine. I ensure to establish a healthy sleep schedule and try to receive an adequate amount of sleep every day since it will help me cope with day-to-day stresses. Additionally, I find it beneficial to have a support system in place, whether that is a family member or a friend. Taking the time to nourish my relationships with these people is important to me so I prevent loneliness and isolation. Attending social events, and joining a club or organization also aids in developing and maintaining these meaningful relationships as well as providing an outlet for expression and exploration. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle while attending school can be a difficult task to accomplish. However, by managing personal wellness, I will be able to enjoy the college experience more, have clarity and focus, have improved relationships, and have increased proficiency as a student. Ultimately, attending college requires me to take care of their physical, emotional, and social health in order to be successful in both my academic and personal life.

Through my duties as an Accountant, I will understand and teach others the importance of responsible financial practices and regulatory compliance through my knowledge and experience to spread awareness of budgeting and sound financial practices. Through my networks, I will advocate for financial reform on a local or global level, especially when it comes to economic inequality. This could mean lobbying for tax breaks for low-income earners or speaking out against corporate tax evasion. I can also use my expertise to mentor younger professionals who are just starting their careers, or students who are interested in Accounting. I will achieve this by teaching classes at local schools, offering free workshops for adults, or doing presentations at professional events. This scholarship will bring me a step closer to continuing my passion for serving underprivileged communities during college. I will be able to develop strong interpersonal skills and prepare myself as an adult going forward in the real world. It will also allow me to look for new ways to help others and make the world a better place for everyone.

My name is Ava Frey and I am a senior at Shakopee High School in Minnesota seeking a career in Accounting. My post-secondary education plans include attending a four-year university to earn my Bachelor’s degree and work toward my CPA licensure. I am pursuing a career in Accounting because I enjoy working with numbers and spreadsheets. I believe integrity and trustworthiness are important attributes needed to be successful and see it as a rewarding job. The long-term outlook for Accountants is very strong and the field is virtually recession-proof. That promise could one day allow me to go independent and start my own firm should the opportunity present itself. Over my high school career, I believe I have proven myself to be a very capable student and team leader. I am someone that will do what is necessary to meet and exceed expectations in order to get the job done correctly. Currently, I am the President of the National Business Honor Society at my school. This organization prides itself on recognizing outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service of students who are interested in pursuing a career in business. I am also the Founder and President of a new organization called Saber Samaritans, whose mission is to provide services to the community through volunteering. Some of my responsibilities include creating agendas and leading meetings, managing social media accounts, communicating with local organizations, and using spreadsheets to stay organized. In addition to these organizations, I am a manager for the Shakopee High School Girls Hockey Team during the winter, and I also participate in softball year-round. As a leader in multiple extracurricular activities, I have been able to strengthen my organizational and leadership skills through research, working with community leaders, building agendas, creating event schedules, and leading our weekly meetings. Using my strengths and passions for good has allowed me to develop a sense of social responsibility and commitment to my community. A way I plan to gain knowledge in my field and give back to the community is to work with nonprofits. I have a good deal of experience with nonprofits and many are in need of financial expertise to help them manage their resources and understand their financial capabilities. I can take a hands-on approach and provide guidance by helping them manage their accounts, setting up financial systems, and providing audits. In my career, one of the main goals I wish to accomplish is to educate others on financial literacy as it is an important factor in future success. It allows for a logical and effective plan to achieve your desires in the community. Even now, many years later, her impact hasn't left me and I often think of her. In conclusion, Mrs. Norman, my fourth-grade teacher, had a significant influence on my life. She was more than just a teacher thanks to her enthusiasm for the subject, affection, diligence, and positive outlook. She served as a friend, mentor, and role model. For the teachings she gave me and the influence she had on my life, I will always be grateful.

My name is Ava Frey and I am a senior at Shakopee High School. My future plans include attending college to major in accounting. In addition to volunteering teaching you skills of leadership, communication, and teamwork, it also builds character and confidence.

The National Family Partnership provides drug awareness by sponsoring the annual National Red Ribbon Campaign. It catalyzes the mobilization of communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. We made and handed out red ribbons during the week as a symbol of commitment to raising awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs in America. Resources and handouts were also provided so students could reach out for help and educate themselves about the importance of living a drug-free life. Using my strengths and passions for good has allowed me to develop a sense of social responsibility and commitment to my community.

My name is Ava Frey and I am a senior at Shakopee High School. My future plans include attending college to major in accounting. In addition to volunteering teaching you skills of leadership, communication, and teamwork, it also builds character and confidence. It’s important to understand that success is a process and comes from repeated small efforts. When taking on major issues such as world hunger, poverty, or health and medicine, it is best to take a step-by-step approach. It allows for a logical and effective plan to achieve your desires in the community. Saber Samaritans also volunteers at Feed My Starving Children, a Christian non-profit organization that seeks to eliminate hunger and meet the needs of malnourished children throughout the world. I believe this is important because who you surround yourself with is who you become.
