I believe that the part of my character that inspires others in a positive way is my friendliness. No matter where it is, whether it is at university, teaching my band students, or performing in an ensemble, I always strive to have a friendly manner to myself and make everyone feel that they are welcome. While I was drum major at my high school in the marching band, one of the common complaints that I would receive from students about others in the program was that they did not feel welcomed into the community. I have received similar comments from the students that I now teach as a marching band tech. One of the most important things in any community is making sure that students feel welcomed and encouraged, which is done by being friendly with them. People often mistake friendliness with being friends, you do not have to be friends with someone to be friendly with them. Being friendly simply means that you are treating a person with kindness, respect, and empathy in any given context, no matter how well you know that person. I have chosen to pursue my industrial engineering major as to help the economy and design efficient systems. As an industrial engineer my job will be to improve processes that integrate workers and machinery together and help to maximize the effort that is being produced. Industrial engineers focus on making a working environment safer, faster, and more rewarding for the workers. In the new age of machinery and AI, this will be an integral part of making sure that the average working man is able to provide for their family. Industrial engineers guide business to better care for their employees, starting from the bottom and working their way up! In being an industrial engineer I will be able to ensure the well being of employees while helping the American economy stay afloat. I believe that it is important in the coming years to make sure that people in higher places of society continue to keep the best interest of the common working man, and anyone that may not have a voice of their own to speak with. I am so sorry for the loss of this amazing young man. I truly resonate with your loss seeing how similar me and him were, and I can not imagine the pain you must feel. We are the same age, both involved in band, and wanting to pursue an engineering degree. I will think of your son anytime I think about giving up.
