While attending a historically black college or university I plan on helping build a mentorship program. Helping others become overachievers instead of just being mediocre in academics or even sports. I feel as if we could help kids that are just now coming from High School. Because there is a big adjustment for kids who didn’t have a family that went off to college. Some people aren’t as fortunate as others to get the help they need due to them not knowing where to get the help from. I can help by using positive reinforcement with my peers to encourage them to go over and beyond. Sometimes kids just need someone their age to give that extra push so they wouldn't feel left out. A real-life example I have is that everyone knows for a fact they would need Financial Aid, 40 Community Service Hours, and 27 credits to graduate. There was a field trip given to the seniors who accomplished all the requirements out of 135 kids in my class only 53 kids were on track. The administration sent a list to show who all the kids were on track so once I looked on there and saw I was on there I was so happy. But once I realized that I didn't see a couple of people I knew I started to ask "How come you are not on the list?". Most of them seemed concerned they wanted to immediately get work done. The littlest thing like going on a field trip made my peers realize if I don't get it together that I would be left behind. Plus the embarrassment of not going would be when people bring it up you wouldn’t have anything to say but the reasoning of why you weren’t with your class members at the event. Also, consistency will always play a tremendous role in exceeding anything you do in life. There isn’t always someone to tell you when or how you need to do something. You have to take it upon yourself to get it done or it won’t happen at all. Any person I ever looked up to never got in the position they are in by not having any dedication to their craft. Once you find what you are wanting to accomplish in life your desires would come naturally to focus on your dreams and goals. Keeping a resilient mindset will keep you in a state of it’s ok to fail as long as you find a way to get back on top. No matter how hard you fall you have other opportunities that will come in your life to make you or break you. If you want it bad enough you will find a way to get it. There have been plenty of times where things didn’t work in my favor. Once I kept going at the task with an overachiever point of view I excelled with flying colors. Believing in yourself comes within nobody will care if you don’t have courage first.
