My name is Aubrey Glover, and as a member of the LGBT+ community, I have seen firsthand how important it is to prioritize the mental and sexual health of our community. For many of us, coming out and being in a safe space can be a difficult and overwhelming process. On top of that, there is the added pressure of ensuring that we are taking care of our sexual health and protecting ourselves from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
Growing up, I struggled with my own identity and coming out to my friends and family. It was a daunting task that left me feeling isolated and alone. However, once I found a community of people who accepted and supported me, I felt empowered to embrace my identity and be proud of who I am. This experience taught me the importance of creating safe spaces where individuals can feel accepted and loved for who they are.
Moreover, I have also witnessed the impact of poor mental health on members of the LGBT+ community. Many individuals face discrimination, harassment, and rejection, which can lead to feelings of anxiety, depression, and isolation. It is essential to address mental health concerns within our community, provide resources and support, and create a space where individuals can talk openly about their struggles.
In addition to mental health, sexual health is another critical aspect of our community that needs to be addressed. The stigma surrounding sex and sexual health can prevent individuals from seeking out proper care and treatment, which can lead to long-term health complications. As a result, it is essential to provide accessible and judgment-free resources that can help individuals make informed decisions about their sexual health.
I volunteered at AdventHealth hospital, then became a medical assistant at an ear, nose, throat, allergy, and plastic surgery center when I turned 18 years old. I have gained valuable clinical experience that has prepared me for my future career as a physician assistant. In this role, I have worked closely with patients from all walks of life, including members of the LGBT+ community. Through my interactions with these patients, I have come to understand the unique challenges that they face when it comes to their mental and sexual health.
Moreover, I am also passionate about educating others on the importance of sexual health and promoting STD prevention. I have completed courses on sexual health education and have become a certified sexual health educator. This certification allows me to provide accurate and comprehensive information about sexual health, STD prevention, and safe sex practices to members of the LGBT+ community.
Overall, I am committed to helping create a world where individuals of all genders and sexual orientations can feel accepted, supported, and loved. By prioritizing mental and sexual health within the LGBT+ community, we can help individuals overcome their struggles and live healthy and fulfilling lives. Through my involvement in community organizations and education, I hope to make a difference in the lives of those struggling with their mental and sexual health. I believe that by working together, we can create a more inclusive and accepting world for all individuals, and I am excited to be a part of that change. Thank you for considering my application.

Catherine (Kay) Williams Memorial Arts Scholarship
As a high school student, I found myself drawn to the world of drawing and creative arts. I always had a passion for creating things, and I quickly found that my art skills allowed me to express my creativity in ways that other forms of expression simply could not match. In particular, I discovered that I had a talent for creating children's books that combined my love for art with my interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
Over the past few years, I have created three different STEM-oriented children's books that are designed for kids ranging from pre-K to 3rd grade. Each of these books focuses on a different STEM topic, such as decision-making skills and types of engineering careers, with my most recent story being about environmental science. My goal in creating these books was to help introduce young children to these important concepts in a way that was fun and engaging.
One of the things that I love most about drawing and creative arts is the way that it allows me to connect with people in a way that is both personal and meaningful. Through my children's books, I have been able to share my love for STEM with countless young children, helping them to see the world in a new and exciting way. I believe that these books have the power to inspire children to pursue their interests in science and technology, and I am proud to have played a part in that process.
Of course, creating these books was not always easy. It required countless hours of research and planning, collaboration, as well as a significant amount of artistic skill and creativity. These books used a multitude of styles. I wanted to be more well-rounded and go outside of my comfort zone. I used collage, digit art, watercolor, markers, and interactive elements in the books. The interactivity was special as it engaged all students that read our story. Although the books can be difficult to appeal to a young audience from an older age, I believe that the effort was well worth it, and I am confident that these books will continue to inspire and educate young children for years to come.
Looking forward, I am excited to continue exploring the intersection between drawing and creative arts and STEM. I believe that there is still so much untapped potential in this area, and I am eager to continue exploring new ways to bring these two worlds together. Whether it is through creating new children's books, developing innovative art installations, or exploring new forms of digital media, I am excited to see where this journey will take me.
In conclusion, I believe that drawing and creative arts have the power to transform the way that we think about STEM education. By bringing together these seemingly disparate worlds, we can help to inspire and engage young children in a way that is both fun and educational. I am grateful for the opportunity to have created these children's books, and I am excited to see where this passion will take me in the future. Thank you for considering my application.

I dream of a life where I can be comfortable in my own skin. As a gay youth in America, there is such a stigma from our peers that the people in the LGBTQ+ community are weird, different, and should be shunned. My goal is to prove those who were against me, and my community, wrong, with my future work in the medical field.
