      Bold Creativity Scholarship
Throughout my life, it’s been challenging to find what drives my spark and motivates my innovation. Smith Rock, Oregon 2020. I went on one of the most extended hikes I had been on, which allowed me to see rock climbing for the first time in my life. That was the moment I knew my life would change. I wanted to stretch what I initially thought was possible and challenge my mind and body. It was a creative output in a way I never saw for myself. Now I found myself bouldering in climbing gyms and creating new connections with people through groups explicitly designed for climbers of color. I even worked my way up to becoming a program outreach coordinator for the organization. Taking on the responsibility of getting our climbing members out into the community to bond in other methods outside of climbing has been highly gratifying. Some of these activities included: community clean-ups and even creating Christmas stockings for our house-less neighbors. I then transitioned into outdoor climbing, and it has brought on a whole new challenge of puzzles and patterns for my brain to complete. How do I apply creativity to my life? My answer would be: I do so by creating community and expanding on my knowledge and love for the sport that is rock climbing.
