I want to go to college to major in sports therapy. I’m a multi-sport scholar-athlete in my senior season at Charlotte Christian School. I currently play football and run track. I would love to run track or play football while I attend college. I'm an extrovert who is good at acting. At least that’s what my acting teacher told me. I'm a very likable, honest and caring person. My personality is friendly and its not hard for me to make friends.

I am a multi-sport scholar-athlete starting my freshman journey at Appalachian State University. I currently run track. My goal is to play football or run track while I’m in College. I also want to major in kinesiology. I have physically worked out since I was in grade school, so I know the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Even though it would be nice to make it to the Olympics or play in the NFL, I know the odds are very slim. So I want to use my passion for sports to help other athletes be able to reach their short-term and long-term goals. Sports is basically my therapy because I can escape reality and do what I love, but it can be stressful especially when I hurt my right hamstring. I thought about giving up on something I loved because I’m always overthinking my injury, and I’m asking God why me. I remembered that the only people who should believe in me is me, so I started to think that everything happens for a reason and my time will come. I started to see my friends around me getting love from colleges and I was happy for them. I love to see the people around me win, but I was lowkey hurt because I was like when is my time and I think I’m good enough to get the same attention, but I wasn’t getting the same attention as these guys. Now I’m waiting for my opportunity to show a college what I can do. I am 100% healthy and I know that taking care of my body is what helped. I filled out 15 applications and was accepted into 10. I am currently a freshman at Appalachian State University. Even though my life has been a roller coaster and I’m enjoying the ride. I can’t wait to see where my journey takes me. I have learned to just keep moving forward and opportunities will come my way. Now I need to make sure I have the funding to be attend the college. I received a partial scholarship to run track. Track and field isn’t considered a revenue sport, so funding is limited. Academic scholarships are also limited at Appalachian State and are given to native students who grew up or live in the area. Since I am a student athlete, my schedule is demanding. I want to take the financial burden off my parents so I am researching as many scholarships and looking for ways to help fund my journey. I feel I have a chance to win this one. Thank you

Financial Literacy Scholarship Award
My journey to financial literacy has been a roller coaster. My mom is an accountant, so she is always telling me to be mindful of how much I spend and what I’m spending money on. She started me out with a bank card that was funded by her weekly. My mom was able to see every transaction. One day I ordered pizza to be delivered. When the pizza came it was one medium cheese pizza with a 2 liter drink. It cost almost $40. My mom was angry. She said what did you buy. I learned a big lesson on how to order pizza. Besides the delivery fees and tip, she told me that it’s cheaper to order and pick it up at the store and that there are usually specials and coupons. I spent double the cost. I will not do that again. My next lesson to learn was that the card didn’t have unlimited funds. While hanging out with my friends at the mall, I was picking out a lot of clothes I liked. When I got to the register the card declined. It was an embarrassing moment. I learned to make sure I had enough money on the card and that I could afford to buy what I wanted. I had a weekly budget of $50, so I was forced to live within that budget until graduation. So now I’m on this new journey of managing my funds. I’m doing better. I still have moments when I order Uber eats, which is popular, expensive, and convenient. Especially being a student athlete, I’m busy and sometimes don’t feel like going out to get anything to eat. But that can be expensive so I may do it once or twice a month. My mom wasn’t budging on the weekly allowance amount. So now I’m looking for some ways to make money on campus, it’s hard to get a job being a student-athlete. My schedule is very demanding. I have my own bank card now, so my mom doesn’t monitor my transactions, but I’m still limited on funds. I used all my graduation cash gifts to open my own account. My goal is to make the funds last as long as possible without having to ask my parents for additional funding. My mom is already having to fund part of my education. That’s another reason I’m applying for as many scholarships as possible, so I can become financially secure and take the burden off my mom. I was recruited to run track at Appalachian State and received a partial scholarship. Track and Field is not a revenue sport so scholarship funds are limited. The academic scholarship are also limited at Appalachian, most scholarships are made available for students who grew up or are from around the school’s demographics. I have learned a lot on this financial journey and so far I learned it is not anything to take lightly. Please consider me for this scholarship, It will be greatly appreciated.

People think I'm an extrovert, when really, I'm an introvert that can tap into my extrovert side when I feel comfortable.

Kenyada Me'Chon Thomas Legacy Scholarship
I’m a multi-sport scholar-athlete in my senior season as part of the class of 2023 at Charlotte Christian School. I currently play football and run track. My goal is to play football or run track when I go to College. I also want to major in kinesiology. I have worked out since I was in grade school, so I know the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
I have filled out 15 applications and have been accepted in six currently. I have been accepted into The University of Kentucky, Appalachian State, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Arizona State, Louisiana State University, and Presbyterian College, I am on the waiting list for a few others colleges.
Even though my life has been a roller coaster and I’m enjoying the ride. I can’t wait to see how my journey takes me. I have learned to just keep moving forward and opportunities will come my way. Now I need to make sure I have the funding to be attend the college of my choice. I researched many scholarships and feel I have a chance to win this one. Thank you in advance for the opportunity to apply.
