Bio

I am an undergraduate majoring in Computer Science at Stanford University. My academic interests are exploring the intersection of the abstract concepts of linguistics and the concrete subject of Natural Language Processing (NLP). From the basics of using artificial intelligence to translate our speech, I am researching how machines can better comprehend our jargon. More specifically, how do we as programmers improve these machines to increase their capabilities? Human behavior and language are so complex and the challenge of creating code that understands it all excites me. I hope to contribute to NLP projects such as predicting sentiment and emotion in speech to explore the field of verbal analysis and strengthen my skills in NLP. I completed software engineering internships at Google in 2021 and Meta Platforms in 2022. I currently serve as a Section Leader/Teaching Assistant for Stanford’s introductory data structures and algorithms class and lead weekly discussion sections, hold weekly office hours, and grade assignments and exams. Outside class, I find it meaningful to create spaces for women to spread their love for STEM because I believe I can impact the gender imbalance in future STEM classes, leading to more diverse workplaces. During the pandemic, I brought about this change as president of my school’s Women Interested in Science and Engineering (WISE) organization. At Stanford, I am continuing this mission as a member of Stanford’s Society of Women Engineers (SWE). LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/arisa-chue/ GitHub: https://github.com/arisachue
